Let's ply beads into yarn. Join me in this live tutorial plus Q&A.
Welcome to Vlogmas 2022! For 12 days in December I will open a box of fiber, read a blessing, and share some spinning tips as well as a story while we sit by the fire and spin some yarn. Grab a warm drink, some fiber, and let's get spinning!

Incidentally, the single I will be beading, is being spun on my 1840s Valencia CPW. You were so helpful last spring when II located it and decided to rescued it from the antique store it had been gathering dust in for 25 years! Thank you for all your pointers back then. You are truly a teacher at heart. Hugs!

In Austin TX there had been a very actiave spinning and weavers group. I loved my time with them and learned so much during that time. I made all kinds of yarn and had my own angora goats and rabbits. Just found that there are utube vidios on spinning and this is a happy day. My dad was a wood worker and made spinning wheels and so I have several. Lots of drop spindles and niddy noddy's too.

Nice to see this bead method. So many things to try. I spin with a Lendrum named "Heather", my only wheel and I love her. I've thought about bringing another wheel into my life and can imagine an electric for plying could be the next step. This "give away" is very generous along with all the time and work you do to produce this podcast. Whether I should be a lucky winner or most likely, not, many thanks are in order. Looking forward to more of Vlogmas.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and passion with spinning. I don't know if you remember me, but I got a glass ring distaff and used it. It helps so much with spindle spinning. It also came with a ring on the shaft too. I imagine it is to feed the fiber and prevent the twist getting into the supply. Anyway, thank you so much for your demonstration of using the ring distaff. I'm sorry for flooding the live chat with my questions. I am so grateful for what you do for us. Thank you.

I've done beadwork. The regular seed beads can have rough edges. They have to be inspected. They can be so rough they are actually sharp and have to be filed smooth. There are teeny tiny files that can do this. The beads have to be inspected individually if you are doing heirloom or inheretible work. I don't know availability of products now, but Japanese Delicata beads were the finest finish with a triangular shape. Maybe too small but not for thread.

Project while I watch: I'm knitting trial swatches for a sweater. I just moved north, bought wool yarn to make a large afghan that is just about finished, and have a few skeins left. Did I buy the wrong amount? No. When I tried to crochet those skeins into the afghan, they were a different thickness 🤔 so I couldn't use them. And I don't have any wool sweaters yet, so I'll use them for that. Nothing fancy because I need to get it finished asap as it's cold and I want to wear it.
