Holy cow man! Thank you!! This has got to be the simplest explanation I've seen to date. Helped me fix my 250 idle and top end :-)

@@jasonjulian1 Yeah bro, your style of explaining is straight to the chase.. which is awesome! No need to yawn through the history of carburetors, after commercials, an intro sequence and a sponsor plug to get valuable info. :D

Love your explanation! I have a 15hp Honda outboard motor that I took up to 7500ft above sea level. I think it needs a new jet in the carb. Where do I get them?
@jasonjulian1

Best pla e I've found for jets of all sorts is jetsrus.com You can get either genuine jets or generics to save some cash. They even have measurements to ID what jets you have

Now I have a question, I put a turbo on my 173 and put that carb on, black smoke and dies if I give it throttle, choke kills it. What should I do?
@jasonjulian1
@jasonjulian1 Год назад
Black smoke indicates super crazy rich. What size jets are you using?

The way you hold the screw driver as well as your hand direction implies the idle mixture screw is reverse thread. Is this true? Are Japanese/ Asian mixture screws reverse thread?
@jasonjulian1
@jasonjulian1 Год назад
No, it's standard threading... I just didn't flip the video before uploading. Downside of using my phone I camera I suppose.

should the pilot jet also be lightly seated? I replaced mine and have since had very high revs at idle. Sputtering shortly after unless i open the throttle. Also can see that one slide is slightly higher than the other and won't go any lower even with the idle screw all the way out
@jasonjulian1
@jasonjulian1 2 года назад
Connor, the pilot jet as well as the main jet itself should be snagged up rather firmly in the carburetor body. Don’t go all Incredible Hulk on it, as they are only brass. But it shouldn’t be lightly seated, it should be snug firm and tight. if you’re throttle slide is not sitting fully to the bottom and evenly, Then something is obstructing it. I would remove the carburetor from the bike and inspect it more closely. A sputtering unless you slightly open the throttle could be indicative of running either too lean or too rich, which I know isn’t particularly helpful, but if your pilot jet is only lightly seated , it’s possible it is leaking fuel past the threads that is over richening your idle mixture, which smooth out as you open the throttle and allow more air. Clearly that is not how it should work either. So double check that as well.

@connorgroane6837 2 года назад
@@jasonjulian1 thanks for the tips. The pilot jets aren't seated lightly so I was just making sure I had that correct. I should also note that there is 'hesitation' after shutting the throttle and trying to reopen. Which was occurring before I replaced the pilot jets anyway

Sound like you might’ve installed your slider tube incorrectly. The tube should pretty much fall straight in, to the bottom. There is a long slit and a notch on the slider tube. Make sure they slide in the right way.

hey so i just bought one of those for my bike and I was able to get it to idle perfectly fine, but when I turned the choke off and went into first gear pulled the throttle it completely just bogs out no power at all. it is a brand new bike/ brand new carb and im very new at all this, what do you think i should do?
@SlyySquad

@@lindsaystandford9885 make sure the needle is fully inside the carb hole and the throttle cable cap is tight, got mine working perfect, runs / starts awesome also if its a new bike make sure to adjust the clutch adjustment so it sits where it needs to. from neutral to first gear it doesnt stall its nice and easy switch over and im a new rider so b4 i didnt do that and it was stalling out most of the time
@LittleJigaboo

my bike will only idle on half choke, if its on either full choke or no choke I will have to give it throttle to not stall, also when I go full throttle it will sputter and loose most power, what should I do?
@jasonjulian1
@jasonjulian1 Год назад
Sounds like she's definitely lean. Not enough fuel coming through the pilot jet. That's why half choke works for you- it's enrichening the fuel mix at idle. So I'd pull your pilot jet, check it's size and go up 2 sizes. Example, if you have a 22 pilot in there, toss in a 25. Then check how it starts and runs. If it seems too rich, you can back down one size. It's a bit of a back and forth with these things. I'd also keep your needle clip on the standard middle position for this until you get your idle circuit good. Then you can start to address the mid throttle and wider throttle positions.

So if I need to use the choke to get it started I would need to go up in size on the pilot jet?
@jasonjulian1
@jasonjulian1 2 года назад
If you need to *keep* the choke on to maintain a solid idle... Then yes. It's normal to need the choke to start a cold engine... But if after its warmed up, you shouldn't need the choke for more than 10-20 seconds, if at all. Otherwise, you got it, a larger pilot jet is likely in order. This also assumes your air or fuel screw is not wildly out of the accepted normal range as well.

The vm26 they have is slightly different, yes. The location of some of the controls is different, but the jetting information should still apply. This is the carb on their site I compared to: tbparts.com/product/26mm-mikuni-carb-vm26/
