The first time I saw this dynamic duo, I don't think I stopped laughing the entire song. Their energy, style, musicality and vocals are divine, and the humor laced in the lyrics makes for such a fun experience. I expect nothing less from this one!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Silk Sonic again, performing "Smokin' Out The WIndow”.

I love that Bruno has evolved his style into 70's soul/motown the last few years. At first i didn't really like his songs but now that he did changed up a bit i'm digging these tracks! It was like a fresh wind blowing through mainstream pop music. It's probably also why i like the recent Dua Lipa's songs, they also got these lovely baselines going. Love it!

For quite some time I've been wanting to recommend Earth, Wind & Fire for Elizabeth's reaction. There is one specific performance of Fantasy that I really want to use, but I haven't been able to find it on RU-vid. I have an audio CD which says it was "Recorded Live in Japan April 20, 1995". I've found other performances from Japan on other dates, but they don't compare to this one. Maybe there is no existing video for that date -- I have no idea. Anyway, if you can find a good live performance of Fantasy, I think you'll love it.

Welp, I need this album. I listen to a lot of metal, but I love the 70s vibe. Popular music has become so homogenised and stale, mainstream music was just much more interesting and adventurous in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Nowadays pop sticks to a very narrow band, and people's musical universe lamentably keeps shrinking and shrinking. Also, Bruno Mars is the natural successor to Michael Jackson, and to some extent, Prince.
@KevinIandutton
@KevinIandutton 2 года назад
Ive found that the ease of access to music creation has only increased its variety especialoy as pop has subsumed so many genres and really genres themselves have become a thing of the past. I think that as we age and settle into the comfort of our individual worlds and indulge nostaliga our willingness to put in the work to challenge our ears and our tastes lessens and so does the time we might take to try new music. Fresh fridays is a playlist spotify makes of the weeks new releases and I try to give it a listen whenever I can. Not only do I find new bands all the time, I also am constantly shocked by the sheer breadth of music out there by professional and home grown artists as well. I also think with recommendation algorithms being what they are, it kindof locks us into an infinite mirror of our own choices and then all we hear outside of that are those top 40 pop songs of the moment creating the illusion that music has become more homogenous or is inky trending one way.

My absolutely favorite part is when Pak comes in with the: "Just the other night she was gripping on me tight screaming Hercules!!!" stomp! stomp! (Hercules) stomp! stomp! (Hercules) 😏You probably decided not to mention it because of the innuendo but how absolutely creative was that?! There are so many ways in music to express making love that we've already seen, from very cleaver to straight up front nasty lyrics to certain rhythyms in the front or in the back but this is IMO, sonicly this is the best I've had the privilege to hear. It's highly suggestive & not just that, it's let's say... describing an enthusiastic final push by the team to cross that finish line for gold✨🏆✨. Yet at the same time it isn't raunchy, over the top or out of sync with the rest of the song. It is accomplished is such a playful & balanced creative manner that it delivers the point without drawing excessive attention away from the song & story.

Several years ago, when my son was in elementary school, I was tucking him into bed. Just as I was about to turn off the light and walk out of the room, he said, "Hey, dad?" I paused ans asked, "What's up?" Then, out of nowhere, he says, "A lot of kids at my school like Justin Bieber, but it's just 'cause they haven't heard Bruno Mars." I was so proud, I swear I almost cried. Then a few months ago, we were in Las Vegas. We didn't score tickets to the live show, _but_ we had dinner in the same building...and just knowing _that_ filled us with joy and excitement. P.S. I love their use of Major 7ths and Major 9ths in the back-up vocals. They create a "sweet dissonance" that really fills out the harmony chords just beautifully!

You absolutely NEED to analyze the vocals on Led Zeppelin's "Since I've Been Loving You" off of their Album "Zeppelin III" Robert Plant's voice, along with the other musicians, and also what I personally consider to be one of the greatest electric guitar solo's in the history of music, are simply magical. They are the epidemy of Rock and Roll. Every member is completely one with their instrument and one with each other. I am begging you...PLEASE! Not only will it blow you away, but I really would love to hear your analysis of Plant's voice because I honestly have no idea how he can possibly sing like that. I just joined your Patreon and will be making the request on Discord. Also, I know you like to watch the live performances, but for this track I think the album version would be the way to go to start. It basically is a live studio recording anyways and the guitar solo was done in a single take. THANK YOU! Your videos have really helped me to fund my voice and that is a beautiful gift to be able to give a person :)

We know Elizabeth likes videos with more than one vocalist. What about The Traveling Wilbury's? Harrison, Lynne, Petty, Dylan and Orbison all in one band. Nothing like it before or after. They had a couple of songs where they all traded lead vocal duties. If you have never listened to them you should check them out.

Elizabeth. For heaven's sake. As you're this enamored with Silk Sonic, then hie yourself and start looking into '70s Philadelphia soul bands, which is EXACTLY where Bruno and Anderson are mining their sound. Indeed, the first time I heard them, I thought it was maybe a lost Stylistics track. All the classic features are there: tight harmonies, strings (synthesized, in this case), crisp drumming, even the little stage dances. Every one of those things came out of Philly. Bands and artists to look into: The O'Jays (too many to list) The Spinners (ditto) The Stylistics ("If You Don't Know Me") Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes (too many to list) Billy Paul ("Me and Mrs. Jones") Lou Rawls The Trammps ("Disco Inferno") The Three Degrees ("Soul Train" theme ring a bell?) nearly anything produced by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff nearly anything produced by Thom Bell Labels: Avco Records Philadelphia International Records

I have watched the whole show many times now but it always amazes me. What a stunning collaboration. Each number is crafted into a chapter with different moods and styles that complement each other perfectly. I would say it is the ultimate body of work that lifts you and transports you to a different era. Thank you for reacting to it to give me another reason to listen to it again

I really enjoyed your explanation here. If there is one singer/performance i would like you to review it is this live performance from one of the Australian 'The voice' Judges. I can't stop listening to this : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HUn7BTMWb8A.html

Hey, so with all the amazing insight and commentary on really harsh subjects lately, would you be willing to critique Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World to lighten things up and put a smile on some faces? (Not that you don't already do that, but you know what I mean)

They are both smokers in real life. Can you imagine what Bruno could do with clean lungs?! As an ex-smoker (who cannot sing), I can tell how much harder it was to just walk up a couple flights of stairs when I still smoked. Let alone dance AND sing at the same time. I would have died.
