Voice teacher and metal singer Mary Zimmer talks about the Tunisian metal band Myrath in today's video! This particular video is super unique because it features the actual vocal tracks from the album Shehili. You'll get to hear singer Zaher Zorgati's soloed vocal tracks for a closer look than ever before on the Voicehacks channel. Special thanks to Kevin Codfert and Myrath for the stems! If you've ever wanted to hear the isolated vocals from a metal band, this video is for you! Zaher's vocals feature Berber inflections as well as blues runs and distorted singing.

The technique I call it traditional sound. My dad sings the same. He listen to tradiotnal music. And some times he does karaoke. He is a good hobby singer. It's also very used in pop songs for example in Turkey. Zaher is a really good singer. BTW.

Hello, i'm Tunisian and actually i don't agree on what you said on 7:05 cause Zaher, on that part of the melody, he's not using quarter notes. it's true that Arabic music uses quarter notes but not always. there're scales that use those type of notes like "Rast" "Bayati" etc.. but here in this song, and as i listen to arabic music, i don't feel this type of notes on myrath's songs cause they usually use "Hijaz" which is harmonic minor, phrygian and minor too. they may use "Nahawand" too. so Yeah you sang that part as zaher did but transposed. anyway ! thank you so much on analyzing that song . and you make a good job

This reminds me of the band Evergrey, and their singer Tom Englund. Also, this video was awesome! Super talented singer, and it's very cool that you were able to get the raw content! If i could make a request, I've always been curious about the vocal technique that ryan clark from demon hunter uses, as well as many singers such as David williams, and Jasen Moreno, and of the type.

I didnt know about the eastern scales but I have often used, as an interpretation resource, to make notes slightly sharp to convey some anxiety to the listener in very particular parts of songs. It may sound a bit weird, but most people don't even know it's not the "correct" pitch.

What I would like you to do, is to try to get same tracks for a song Dance, he is singing insane lines on the chorus and plays with vocals amazingly so it would be great to hear those parts soloed out!!! :))))

He sounds so much like Jorn Lande. His distorsion sounds very similar and he is like a thick cord tenor, with meaty high notes. Also very bluesy style, with a lot of soul/swagger. He reminds me a lot of Jorn :)
@voicehacks
@voicehacks 5 лет назад
Seba Melmann He also reminds me a bit of Russell Allen but higher pitched haha since Russell is a baritone
@marcelo.bassalo
@marcelo.bassalo 5 лет назад
@@voicehacks Really? I always though Jorn was a high baritone and Russell a low tenor. How can I tell when they sing high and also use compression / distortion? Also, on a personal note I don't think he sounds like Jorn at all.
@Dellerss
@Dellerss 5 лет назад
@@voicehacks Wait, Russel Allen is a baritone? I can't sing along to pretty much anything he's done as it's so high pitched all the time, and could probably sing an octave lower even on his deepest parts. I'm a baritone myself (not a singer, though, and since dealing with whooping cough I lost my falsetto permanently and also lose more than an octave within an hour of waking up in the morning every day). Symphony X songs are all really high pitched for me as a guy with a fairly medium deep voice. I've heard Zaher go deeper on Myrath's last record than I've ever heard Russel come even remotely close to, and can sing along to more Myrath songs. Russel is singing a lot in girl territory from my perspective (his stuff would oftentimes be a struggle for my mom, who's an alto), as are a lot of famous singers. Tenors seem almost rare in real life, most guys I know don't have high pitched voices at all.
@voicehacks
@voicehacks 5 лет назад
Russell is definitely a baritone with a range of D#2-A5 pretty textbook actually. It is a higher leaning baritone but he has been able to get even lower than D#2 in many settings but it’s just that to be considered consistent range we go with the stronger note of D#2 as the lowest. But a tenor like Zaher can only sing to G2 and aren’t getting anywhere near the D# range. Many baritones have wide ranges and flexible voices. We have to remember that our ranges are only transposed up or down about a 5th from each other. If you can’t keep up with Russell’a high notes it’s a technique issue or you are a lower baritone or a bass and it’s not in your range. You could always transpose it down and see if that works for you.
@Dellerss
@Dellerss 5 лет назад
@@voicehacks It's just that his voice sounds so high as well, for a lack of a better term it doesn't sound very manly when he's using his clean sound (not a bad thing though, he's one of my favorite singers). His timbre just doesn't sound deep at all, quite the opposite compared to most singers I listen to, which is probably one reason why I always perceived him as a tenor. I never considered the possibility that he wasn't. Maybe he sings lower in other projects, I've only heard him in Symphony X and never noticed any low parts (maybe they're there). The ranges are probably a little higher than I expected, Russel "always" sings in what I assumed to be the comfort range for a tenor since it's a few octaves above typical low notes. My lowest recorded note is just a B1, although I can usually only comfortably go down to E or D (again, my voice is broken and easily gets tired). I don't sound like a bass, but given how high the ranges seem to be on paper I may as well be one. I guess some singers just have an extra usable octave before having to use falsetto, so that they're effectively able to cover at least two voice ranges. Many of Russel's notes have to be way above usual baritone range. Edit: Just heard some low speaking notes of his, which is quite surprising as he never really sings lower than low tenor range from what I was able to find. He sounds relatively feminine in his higher register, I guess he just has a decent range. He should use his lower register more IMO, it gets a little tiresome with all male singers trying to sing in what's pretty much female register all the time. Johnny Cash is one of the few who let the low notes shine, although he had quite a range if he wanted to as well.

Well, I'm an Arab but I hate eastern scale. Arabic music as a whole sucks a lot, it's rare to find a good musician or a band. This is my first time hearing this band and I think it's kinda interesting. Can you react to Rasha Rizk and explain what technics she's using? She's one of my favorite vocalists and I learned singing from listening to her so I'd be glad if you do a video about her.
