Great reaction. You've done it now. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (125+ covers and original songs - all on YT) and you will see! Consider that here a 13yo steps before a huge audience with judges and totally controls the room down to the pin drop level, starts a cappella, and completely transforms what might be the most iconic song on the planet (a risky choice for mortals) and does it superbly with calm and confidence. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Etta James to Amy Winehouse (and many others in between) and do them all justice! If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of professional studio musicians or an 40 piece military band. With her immense vocal toolkit, arranging ability (yeah, that too, since about 8yo or so) and the work ethic to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come. From the beginning she has chosen what songs she sings and how she sings them. She'll go to war (politely) with backup musicians who don't know her and don't think an 8 or 9 year old already has a profound knowledge of music and knows best how SHE should sing a song. She's not being exploited, never has been. She's fortunate to have a wonderfully supportive family who don't particularly need additional income. Most of the concerts in which she's performed have been for charities. She donated the money she won at NGT to children's charities. Her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani, was also a child prodigy, artist, poet. Angelina has stated that Mery, a jazz lover, is the major inspirational influence in her life. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman, who has chosen to keep his life private. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on RU-vid. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farci, English and Japanese. Angelina promised the girl she would perform barefoot until every child on Earth has shoes. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina asked her mother to enter her in Norway’s Got Talent (NGT) at age 5 but that talent show had a minimum age requirement of 7. Angelina at age 6 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 6 year old. Just listen to the self confidence Angelina have once she starts singing! This was a flawless performance that made everybody in the audience mesmerized. This self confidence has been one of her trademarks since she started her career in "Norway Got Talent" (2014) at the age of 7. Another example of her lack of nervousness can be seen in an outdoor event in front of 5000-10000 people in the summer of 2014 (eight and a half year old), singing "What a difference a day makes". Siempre que encuentro una reacción en español a Angelina me alegro enormemente. Y hay pocas. Tienes razón: como ya te han dicho otras personas, ella empezó escuchando jazz desde muy, muy joven, algunos pensamos que desde el nacimiento. Digamos que es su estilo principal aunque puedes encontrar una gran variedad de géneros cantados por AJ. Y tengo que incidir en esto último. Sorry, but are most vocal coaches today tone deaf? This is a serious question. Soooooo many vocal coaches this this girl is the second coming. In this song, which for me and my ears, its painful to listen to. She misses every other note. She is probably off pitch on about 60% of the song, yet the vocal coaches praise her. If this were the 1980's, this girl would just be a singer on the school choir. She is so off pitch it is too painful for me to listen to.
