you are the 2nd vocal coach who admired daryl ong's voice and technical skills and would like to learn his techniques. i don't know anything about music but when i first heard his voice i am so impressed as well. plus he looks like my husband.

Great reaction from a reactor who knows his craft. Here's what is great about this vocalist: He's not copying anybody. Now obviously there are runs that we hear that are influenced by other male singers, but what vocalist isn't? What makes him such a singular vocalist is how he is incorporating blue notes into those pop runs. It's totally his own very good artistic taste. I think the track is even the original track that Ed Sheeran sings to. Daryl Ong is singing at the same tempo. He doesn't slow it or quicken it to make it his own, he uses his MUSICANSHIP. to make it his own. Also, it is completely his own style If you look at his other videos, he does the same thing. No copying. I've seen another vocalist actually copy the originator's scats, runs etc, which isn't nearly so impressive.

When I heard him singing this. I said to myself, I found a voice I love to listen more than the original . So creative with his runs. Yup talent , discipline and practice. Even notes not in the scale, he surely can sing it lol. Love your reaction !

What coach Frank is saying is Daryl's choice of notes in his runs is what really makes him great. His tones and phrasing are only secondary. He has thrown blue notes there. Blues people know what coach is saying specially artists who are trying to develop their skills in soloing like pianists, guitarists, sax players and others. Singers specially who are into RNB are like instrumentalist also. The runs they're doing are like soloing.

Blown away and feeling inlove the first time i heard his cover. He made it hard to sing the way he did, haha! Try it and you'll hear yourself funny at some point, coz it sounds so good when he does, but not on yours, haha..even if you know how to sing somehow.
