In conclusion: BTS are good singers! Anyone who thinks that learning to sing like BTS is something you can learn, please keep in mind: -they are men, these notes are high, it's impressive they have such a wide range -these were sung live at their concerts, which are 2.5 to 3 hours long, in between they have songs where they dance and jump around a lot -their tone of voice is beautiful and harmonize so well together
I stopped seeing your videos when I heard you saying multiple times that they're using effects in their voices, or making playback... like, If you watch the whole performance you'll see that isn't true, bts is known because they sing LIVE, PURE... and there's a lot of videos with little mistakes that prove this everytime... I didn't wanna comment this, actually, I like your job, but... don't say things like that when you just watched a 30s clip :D
there are effects put on their vocals in post produsction, so they do sing live, but when they come out with a dvd of a concert it will most likely have somehing on their vocals.
ok i love bts and we all know how talented they are but its true that they do use effects or playback SOMETIMES its just natural man, and theres nothing wrong with it considering how much theyre dancing. just an opinion ;)
country roach Yes but no. They never do playback. Just backing tracks for adlibs. It’s not a question or loving BTS or not, that’s just an objective point.
Considering the fact that you forgot that they are dancing while singing yo most of their performances, let alone that they are male singer, its is enough to say that they are impressive. Just saying
also, his note in awake is very impressive because even speaking with your head upwards can make you feel like you're choking! so to sing whilst doing that is very impressive! 💜
I think Jins voice sometimes sounds "forced" bc he’s a powerhouse vocalist, and he adds the "forced" effect for more texture to a certain song depending on what it’s abt, also i feel like if he’s "forcing" in that song then he’s been "forcing" for years, and more than likely his voice would be OVER🤷♂️😂😂
I’ve been watching a lot of your videos lately, and I like your channel and learning the different skills and techniques used... but I have to say as an army and a viewer, it’s getting frustrating that you aren’t taking into consideration the language is different, there are a lot of “h” sounds and vowels in the korean language. Also if you don’t know the song before deciding to break down the live vocals, you’re watching something so out of context for YOU as a viewer. So for me as a viewer of YOUR video, and who knows the music already and understands the stylistic vocal choices it gets frustrating. Like when you aren’t sure if the vocals in a certain clip are done a certain way because you don’t know the build up and emotion and style of the song as whole. And it’s getting SO frustrating that you are constantly calling out any backtrack vocals. BTS SING LIVE there are so many articles you can find and SO many compilations of them showing they are live. Kpop as a genre is very performance heavy and they do VERY complicated choreography with live vocals. I understand you want to point out what back track sounds like to viewers watching your channel to learn from you. But there have been times where you call one out, or even accuse them of lip syncing, and because you have no knowledge of their songs you don’t realize it’s because in the studio version they layered one persons vocals or layered different parts over top of each other. Those parts are PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE to sing live with out part of it having a back track. And to be honest I don’t think it’s a big deal. I don’t feel you need to point them out anymore. The army that are watching these vids KNOW the song and so we CAN hear when they use any back track. Let’s just focus on the vocals please! And I’m getting SO frustrated when you don’t like a technique one of the guys uses, and it feels like you kind of dramatize their style to show why you don’t like it. Whether you personally like the technique or not it undoubtedly works for them and their voices and it sounds GOOD. Your examples of these moments always sound so cringey and in my opinion bad, but then they’re using these techniques you don’t like they sound so good, so they’re obviously doing something right! I hope this all comes across as constructive criticism because that’s my intent! I really do like your channel and your concept but I feel like all of your bts vids are the same. Not taking language into consideration, pointing out backtrack, and having no concept of what the actual song is. I’d LOVE to see you watch bts introduction vids that break down the members individually so you’d have some knowledge on who they are and what they stand for and a basic idea of they’re style. Just my opinions though! Hoping to see your bts vids evolve so I can come back and enjoy them more!
I loved your video and how honest you are about everything.I'm a huge BTS fan but it's so rare to hear these insights from an expert. I think a lot of 'react' videos these days end up being empty praise with no substance because fans jump on anyone who has a critique for the boys. You were super fair and I learned a lot :)
Have stopped watching reactions because most remarks are about affects or back tracks. I can understand a comment or two but seems that’s the total focus.
Literally lol. Only army knows their real voices, we have seen all the episodes of in the soop for example, or watched the behind the scenes where they sing without microphones and they sound almost exactly the same but more pure. Literally there is no backtrack or effects on their voices whenever they are singing slow-ish songs without dance, they only have backtrack when they're doing wild performances that takes a lot out of you, but they're still singing live even in those performances. Lol we're not the professionals but we've seen them work so hard for years on their singing and vocals, just not cool to see someone demine their hardwork and talent by saying they have effects on their voices just because it's good 🙄✋🏻
A lot of people are saying that there are no effects on their vocals whatsoever, and I'm no expert but I do watch their concert making and practice videos and I do know that there are some echo/reverb effects that they put it because during rehearsals they check the sound in each venue and adjust it to the levels depending on the acoustics in each venue. I don't know whether they do or do not use effects in the clips, but they most likely have minimal effects in many of the clips. I know they adjust it to the levels depending on their throat condition on the day of their concerts, so if they aren't feeling well they might ask for a raise in the background vocals so they wouldn't have to project as loud (background vocals are not the same as effects). They perform in so many different venues around the world and some are indoors, some are outdoors so obviously the acoustics in each venue are different. In the middle of their stadium concert in 2018/2019, they had to come back to SK and do their fanmeeting in a smaller, enclosed space, and they thought the echo level settings to be too high, but turns out it was because they were performing in an enclosed space again in a while
Yeah. BTS sing live but I dont think people quite understand what that exactly entails. There are backtracks, or effects, or other things that might be added in one song, and not another for example. I think too many people jump to defend them and say "OH ITS ALL LIVE" when thats just not the case. Sound engineers work with BTS for a reason, because they are performers. Its not like BTS has a full instrumental track and then just sings in the mic. Thats not how it works. Do they sing live, YES THEY DO. Doesnt mean they dont also have backtracking or certain effects or use other tools during performances. They've shown bits and pieces of BTS dealing with these issues (esp in the documentaries). In one of the DVDS they were watching their concert, and jimin asked "did i sing live?" and they joked that he was so good he didnt even know if he sang live or not. The fact that he asks that is just one example of how BTS too utilizes backtracking and other things. They aren't gods, they are performers.
@@Jeesssiica yess exactly!! That's why they have to rehearse and communicate with the sound engineers in every differemt venue, so they can bring the best performances to everyone. Some people think that singing with backtrack is just "unprofessional" and that means you're a bad singer but that's not true at all! I mean if you sing with no harmonies or doubling the song will literally sound so stationary and have no forward direction :( so people should do their research before making these insensitive comments..
Singing with backing track it's not strange and I support it. For my opinion it's healthy. Last year when they where on tour they did like 2 shows in a week. For 6 months non stop.( even more) If they did that all live with just their voices would be unhealthy. They are not just singers but per performers. So it's doble work counting the rehearsals to. But I like more performances where they are just chilling
Just so you know, the reason isn't really because of that, although that is a big factor, the main issue of the live performances are the fanchants, BigHit has to adjust the volume to amplify their voices because of that.
@@moonray61 I was talking about the lives that aren't recorded for movies/documentaries/memories but yes I understand that their voices do have to be amplified for the ones that are filmed to be in their movies/docuseries/memories but that's all post-production I believe. I've been to a few concerts myself so I know how they sound in the arenas and it's obviously different than all of these clips. I do understand your point though, however, fanchants aren't a problem for the boys because they have their in-ears on and their live vocals can be boosted in post-production (for the films and stuff)
I am just gonna say koreans use different tones and have a lot of heat sound in thier word so don’t judge it like an English or English speaking person
I just LOVE how they all sing in different ways but they do it all and same for the rappers, and thank you for your reaction it was amazing I learned and enjoyed a lot please keep going 👍❤️
@Hoang Katelyn it's come back home by seo taiji they have so many cool songs bts attended their concerts and they did both this song and class idea covers. Go check them out 💜

I agree with you on your opinion on Jin's attempt at that note, and he has certainly approached those notes better than that. And to the people that are claiming it to be a stylistic or tonal thing, it's not. She's talking about his technique, and how it wasn't the healthiest way to approach the note. That cannot be argued, it is an objective fact. It cannot be refuted with 'it's just how his voice sounds'.
Exactly. Some are in denial. I don't understand that about some army. It's like they are in a cult... I personally love Jimin but I can say easily that he struggles a lot with vocals. But I'm glad that he's aware and working on it. Rather than being in denial.
We armys really appreciate that you're reviewing and judging throughly and telling us what they are doing. It's really helpful for people who doesn't know much about singing. But you should also consider the fact that their choreography is insane. And they also put all their energy and efforts into dancing as well so it's natural for them to be out of breath sometimes. And you should also remember that the people you're judging are World Class Idols who've won almost of all the awards in every award shows. I don't mean to be rude. I'm just saying. This video was uploaded last year and I've only see this now. So as it is today, they are the biggest boyband on the planet.
I just want to thank you for reacting to this! Jimin is my ultimate bias but I love all of these men with all my heart. I love how honest you are and watching/listening to Vocal Coaches react and critique singers when needed is so awesome for me to see. They all have beautiful voices that are so different from one another in their own unique ways and I love the praise you gave them but I also loved the constrictive criticism you also provided. Thank you for reacting! This was great to watch :)
BTS does turn on their microphones to sing, others cannot dance and sing at the same time and they do pure lipsync and playback, BTS sings with feeling and emotion as in their dance because they write and compose their own songs, others for more vocal technique that they use at the end they don't tell you anything if you don't feel it or they don't express anything they sing
I just went through all of your BTS reactions, and I can't remember which one you mentioned it on, but if you want to hear more of J-Hope singing, I would suggest listening to the Tiny Desk Concert, specifically the third song they sang called Spring Day.
I LOVE YOU'RE REACTION IT IS RAW AND DO NOT HAVE SUGARCOATING. PLEASE DON'T LISTEN TO SOME OF THEM THAT DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE SAYING. PLEASE REACT TO MORE BTS CONTENT AND CRITIQUE THEM. GODBLESS TO YOU
Some people always misunderstood about effect and harmony. You can have nice song if don't have harmony that why we have producer. Harmony just have the song sounds better not hide the singer voice.
You just didn't understand what she's saying. I mean BTS USE EFFECTS OR WHATEVER. Watch the docementaries and you'll see some clips that they were communication with the sound engineers. Just because they have that effects that doesn't mean they're not professional or what
Nevermind her, there are a bunch of other professionals that react to them that find them very good and give some critique because obviously no one's singing is perfect. There are also professionals who understand that the Korean language is different from the English one and obviously that affects the singing.
I would like to add something to a few bitching comments I've noticed. Sure, fans will protect their artist but I think some just don't know how to express it correctly. Won't touch on chords tension and missed notes criticism cause it's valid and people do mistakes either due to bad condition or pressure/overload on the vocals. It's normal. However, I would comment on the vocal effects part. They do not put effects on their mics, not even post-production. During the actual concert, they have back-up vocals at certain parts, mainly during heavy dancing or for harmonies (to make them sound fuller) BUT that backup vocal track is significantly lowered in volume for us to hear their singing, because they still DO sing over it live. During post-production, due to the insane volume of the loud crowd, the editor does a lot of volume changes and heavy vocal isolation, so sometimes it sounds... weird. Like, too close to mic or too loud breathing and stuff. But that's only because they try to remove the crowd sounds which even their mics still pick up. However, they DO NOT have any effects on mics during live shows (only very rarely reverb for specific performances but I haven't heard that in years) or autotune effects (and other stylistic effects) during editing. Obviously, they also add additional music post-prod since it will sound not as good in the actual recording. Because many of us can recognize even the slightest changes in voice, singing, even breathing, music, all of it. Many of us will KNOW for sure if it's not live, pre-recorded or with effects. BTS doesn't do it because they honour fans with their live performances. That's one of the first ways they give back for support. It would be disrespectful of them to pretend or put effects (unless it's stylistically required by the original song).
You should react to BTS singing acapella so that you understand that it's their real voice... And yes there is a lot of airy sounds but can't correct them on that, that the korean language.
You really need to be introduced to the classically trained Valkyrie Goddess Floor Jansen, and the symphonic metal band she sings for, Nightwish. She is a master of genre blending and shows the many different colours of her voice in the song Ghost Love Score (live in Wacken 2013) Link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JYjIlHWBAVo.html Be ready for when the Nightwish Army comes. They will fill you in on everything you need to know about her and the band
I want to add that a lot of the content/songs are their old songs from years ago. They've also gotten better through the years as they became more experienced.

8:50, that’s his voice tho... if you’re talking about the echo that’s not something that effects his voice?!. You could have listened to that isolated and it wouldn’t have been a difference.
I've watched your other reaction videos to BTS too and really appreciate how honest you are!🥰 You really stress that you'd love to hear their voices without so much editing which I can totally understand, so I'd suggest you watch them sing acapella!😊 This video here is a little older and also includes clips from when they were really young (even from when the youngest member Jungkook was 16/17 years old), but I'd still recommend it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q2nVfWv-r84.html I'm sure you would love it! At some parts they are just goofing around tho so it's quite cute!😂😂 I hope you react to it~💕🥰
Threir song are not in C. They actually use many tonalities but when you have four vocalists with four different ranges there is going to be a more fitting tonality for all. You are probably right in that.

YESS I STRONGLY AGREE. DON'T LISTEN SO SOME PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE SAYING. THEY JUST WANT THAT YOU'LL PRAISE BTS EVERYTIME. BUT YOU DON'T NEED TO SUGAR COAT YOUR CRITIQUE. I LOVE YOUR REACTION. PERIODT.
wait sorry i have a question, when u mention effects on their voices during concerts how does it work? Is it on the mic or is it like the video edits it in post?
She is talking about back tack or vocals in the audio. (They sing over back track) which most artist do in most industries. (It isn’t a bad thing) but when they stop singing you can tell by the lower or distant vocals. But the one thing she always mentions is back track as though it’s someone like saying they doubt they sound as good without it. Bts are terrible at lip syncing and you can see their music videos as proof. They even say it themselves.
I think its just the backing track that she is referring to as effects on their voices. Sometimes the backing track will be too loud that you can't hear their actual voices.
Often times it’s actually not even the mic. The sound from the voice, goes to the mic which then goes to a mixing board that is run by the sound engineer. The mixing board sets the levels of reverb/echo and even auto tune, then that is channeled out into the speakers to the audience.

What we all need to understand is that everyone has different preferences for different voices. For example some people hate that kind of very forward and almost nasally voice and some people love it. Just because one person doesnt like a certain sound of a voice doesnt make them any less talented. Ive watched so far and she has never said that they are untalented she uses phrases "i didnt like that" its an opinion and she is not forcing it on you so there is really no need to be offended haha. Plus she is a vocal coach and she is giving out tips or things that could have been done differently to kind of compliment everything better. I mean i love BTS and they are really talented but every singer has made mistakes on stage we cant expect them to be these perfect singing and rapping gods all the time because they dance so so much and are just so exhausted its really hard to sometimes make everything perfect. In fact putting all that pressure on a singer is really gonna cause more hurt... every single singing voice is unique and pretty in their own way :)
i thought that you were going to point out the reverb at around 8:09 but i was surprised that you instead said that V had vocal effects at 8:50. I have to respectfully disagree and I would actually recommend a review of the "Love Myself" live performance, you might get a different perspective? anyways, I still respect your opinions! 💜

Thank you for this reaction! I loved the breakdown, very very enlightening and technical but mixed with an understanding of personal and stylistic choices. I hope you can react to more live performances. They recently did a 2-day online concert so can you react to the vocal line performance of Zero Oclock of day 1 and day 2? Also, Jimin's Black Swan dance solo, which he did right before that vocal performance :) I know you're not a dancer but you've a lovely take on emotions and art.
What kinda pisses me off about this video is that sometimes throughout the video she’s criticizing their voices. The thing is, this is how BTS sing. Jin sings with a chesty pushed voice, and it’s not his fault. He’s nicknamed the silver voice, actually.
