Jenna has an amazing voice and people always forget that because she was so overlooked on the show. She was a Broadway kid like Lea and was in the king and I and Spring Awakening. She has the proper training, just not the attention. Also knowing Jenna, she probably had to throw the ending note on purpose to show that Rachel was a better singer, plot wise.

Jenna didn't do Les Mes with Lea, she was in the King and I. It was to show the others needed to become more ready and work harder not who was better vocally.

@@emileecee5510 right that was literally the point. Jenna threw the note but Tina was not ready and lost confidence even thought with work she probably would have gotten there.

The one with Tina was going so well until she doubted herself at the end, storyline speaking she was gaining confidence but she didn’t get the end right for her own insecurities, she felt the pressure of the “competition” with Rachel. The version with Rachel and Blaine, there is another reason why it was suppose to feel like something was missing, that’s why Artie was with a straight face the whole time.

Watching this made me realise that glee likes to have characters mess up notes in order to 'prove' Rachel was better. After that scene with Tina she immediately goes 'Rachel is better we need her back' (Rachel had stormed out of glee club earlier in that episode because Tina was given the role instead.)

No they liked to show that the others were good but to be great you needed to work hard and practice. Rachel proved she was more prepared which was the point in the beginning.

I would say, all of Tina's song in Glee, Jenna was holding back. Even her best solo (Because You Loved Me), it's great, but still feels like she held back a bit. If you want to judge Jenna's voice, watching Glee isn't enough. You should hear her singing live, she's way better than what's showcased in Glee. And she's actually more of a belter, but in Glee she sings with head voice and falsetto more often. They rarely let her belt despite she seem to be more comfortable belting. This might be one of the reason why her rendition of Tonight is more belt-y

It is all context for Tonight. Rachel and Blaine would the ones who were holding back so Artie could correct them and make his asinine point about sex. Tina was trying her best but had a bad note which hurt her confidence. People lead you wrong. Tina sang Tonight as just a solo in season 1 which you watched already, Rachel did not get Tonight in season 1. Rachel tried out for Maria for the school musical in season 3, Tina did not try out for Maria in season 3.

For purpose of storyline, Jenna did the note wrong. In real life she can hit it, proven by future season vocals when she sang more, and broadway performances Edit: Finn wasn’t jealous of Blaine and Rachel, neither was Kurt. Not sure where you got that from 😅

Agreed. That's just a G5 head voice note that she missed on purpose (Jenna not Tina). And in later season she hit a lot of G5 notes and higher with ease. She even belted G#5 in My Lovin'. Even Kevin (Artie) was pissed cause they directed Jenna to miss the G5 note which isn't really high for Jenna, she's a soprano

Of all the Finchel duets there were, the ones on WSS would've made the most sense yet they wanted to favor Blaine here and I don't know why because he's not adding anything that Cory couldn't vocally. It's not like his character had to dance.
