@@robertfletcher11 Tom's voice wasn't as powerful as John's, but he has also lost quite a bit of its timber and splendor. I think it was the alcohol that damaged his voice. Still it was rich enough to stand alone and along side John at one stage. I have always wondered what the likes of The Rat Pack and other legends of that time would of thought of Johns voice

There are so many performances from John Farnham that you could say are mindblowing. Australia is lucky that he mostly remained a home star, though he deserved recognition on the world stage and would have been considered one of the greatest of all time internationally given the chance, but us Aussies know he's there regardless of the polls lol

I think this should be the anthem for the whole world. I remember first hearing this song when I was young and unable to fully understand the lyrics (didn’t know enough English) and loving it. Now it just gets a whole new dimension, when I understand what he’s singing about. But it’s a testament to his talent that this song moved me before I could understand it.

Glad to see someone with vocal training react to John Farnham. You have just discovered what we in Australia have known for years. John has one of the greatest voices in the world. With a massive range...I would love to see you react to more John Farnham. Like the others have said. HELP live with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will blow your socks off. Other great options, When Something is Wrong with your Baby ..a duet with another powerhouse singer Jimmy Barnes. Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar. He was also lead singer with the little River Band for 4/5 years and there's some great music from that time ..like Reminiscing. He goes back a long long way and has number one hits in Australia and Europe through the 60's 70's, 80's 90's, 2000's and also 2015 if you count the two strong hearts album with Olivia Newton John. One of the most versatile singers eve,r who has touched just about every genre of music over his career. And at 70+ years of age he can still belt out his songs in the same key as he did in his earlier years. Even now, If he announced another concert today, it would be sold out in minutes...he is that popular.

@@ivanjulian2532 Yeah John’s earlier Johnny Farnham era was middle of the road because that’s how EMI Australia in the 60’s early 70s market him as . They kept him so busy he couldn’t develop musically . By 1975 EMI dumbed him because he was no longer a teen idol being a married family man . From 1975 - 1979 Farnham was doing the suburban clubs mostly just playing who ever was there , sometimes just he’s family members. Doing variety television to pay the bills . 1980 Glenn Wheatley then Little River Bands manager saved John Farnham from the middle of road nightmare. Yeah there’s some corny love ballads over the years but also been great rock songs and soul songs , songs with lyrical depth . John own songwriting has gone underrated because most of his hits are written by other artists or songwriters . But my opinion John Farnham on terms musicality he’s up there with Joe Cocker and Elvis Presley in their ability to reinterpretation someone else song into their own gold . Thinking you need hear more than just the radio hits I suggest All Our Sons And Daughters from Chain Reaction album which one of he’s own penned songs .

You're the Voice is almost another Aussie anthem, so much so, that Whispering Jack (the album this track was on) is the highest selling album in Australia by an Australian artist. It came out over 30 years ago and approx 2/3 of Australian households had a copy of the album. He's got a fantastic voice. Hope you get go check out more of him. It's such a shame he didn't receive more worldwide recognition. Happy weekend Rebecca.

This song was written by, Andy Qunta, Keith Reid, Maggie Ryder & Chris Thompson. The writers asked if John would like to sing their song. John, Glenn Wheatley (Manager) & Ross Fraser (Producer) all said a huge YES. To which they were very pleased because as Keith Reid said, once they'd heard him sing it, even they were convinced they'd written it for him.The Producer of the Album this song was on, (Whispering Jack), Ross Fraser is a mate of John's Manager Glenn Wheatley & he's Scottish, so he liked the sound of the Bagpipes & insisted they be used in certain songs on the album. I mean, who doesn't love the bagpipes, right. Hahaha.

First time I heard that story . Chris Thompson originally said No when Glenn Wheatley rang him asking that John loves You’re The Voice and wants it for a lead single . Thompson hanged up Wheatley saying Johnny Farnham the singer of Sadie The Cleaning Lady isn’t going to record my song. Thompson lived in New Zealand in the late 60’s so he was aware of Farnham’s early career . John himself rang Thompson for his permission after Wheatley failed . Said that he will send him the finished recording before he will release it then make a decision should it should be released or not . Thompson loved it the rest is history . The original Chris Thompson demo got to Australia and in hand of Glenn Wheatley by apparently co writer Andy Qunta who was playing keyboards for Australian band ICEHOUSE at moment in time , he heard John Farnham was looking for songs .

@@markjames3522 I don't know about that. Chris Thompson had known John for some time. He'd worked with John before, with the Little River Band & later as an associate Producer on Uncovered in 1980. As also did Andy Qunta. The information I gave was from an Interview with Glenn Wheatley & Molly Meldrum in 1986, after the release of Whispering Jack. I worked with Icehouse & a few other bands back in the day, as a session Drummer on occasions & as a Sound Engineer at Festival Records, Mushroom & EMI. Those were the days. Hahaha. There is probably a lot of information & misinformation from those days. Great song regardless.

@@denisbryce8746 This information has come from the 3 of the John Farnham books that have been published 2 out of 3 was unauthorised by John but but all books was authorised by Wheatley and it’s the same story is Wheatley’s authorise book as well . None of the songwriters of You’re The Voice had meet John in person before You’re The Voice . Chris Thompson didn’t even know that John Farnham was in the Little River Band , all he knew that Sadie The Cleaning Lady was massive hit from him 19 years earlier and that he wasn’t taken seriously in the industry. After You’re The Voice became a massive hit , yes that all did meet up Chris Thompson and Andy Quanta even wrote some more songs for John Farnham on next few albums . Yes You’re The Voice was a once in lifetime song . Little River Band’s Graham Goble produced Uncovered that his project because he was a Farnham fan and he was writing songs that too high in key for Glenn Shorrock to sing . You found our Legend and at that concert he sang that song again as an encore and asked everyone to be careful going home. He always does. He turned 73 on July 1st. I heard him sing at 70 and he had lost none of that voice. He is known as the Voice. I don’t think he will perform again because he lost his best friend and manager that we all loved as well. To complications from Covid. John and Glenn are and were beautiful souls. John’s range is huge and he can sing in any genre, even Opera. He never had a singing lesson and he makes the Beatles sound sad when he sings Help at this concert.

"lungs of gold" - he can still belt it out now, and he was almost a chain smoker at the time of this concert - very lucky to keep his voice intact after beating up his 'instrument' with the smokes. But that just makes him a normal faulty human.♥

Rebecca This Man is a True Aussie legend. Came back from career oblivion & rose back to the top of the charts. Have seen him in concert in late 80s just after this came out & in the early 90s. An absolute powerhouse singer and incredible live performer. Sadly he recently had surgery to remove cancer and may not perform again but praise the Lord we have these recordings of him. A true vocal masterclass is John Farnham!!
