The best compliment i could give this man is at 70+ years young he can sing everything in the catalog, Paul Stanley, Ozzy have tempered their set lists cause these great frontmen are getting on in life & simply can’t reach where they once did. He still can, sobered up a long time ago & we are all better for it, He didn’t call himself the “ Metal God “ the industry did. He is one of the baddest frontmen to ever grab a mic! I get why 'Painkiller' is often suggested, but it doesn't come close to showing Rob's range at all. There is a live version of 'Victim of Changes' from a few years back that is probably more interesting. Still, the fact that the man can still belt out pretty much anything at his age is incredibly impressive.

Agree... I like "Painkiller"... I like "Painkiller" A LOT, but I think there are better Judas Priest songs that showcase Rob Halford's vocal range and the musicianship of the rest of the band better, like "Hard As Iron", "Blood Red Skies" "A Touch of Evil", "Victim of Changes", "Out In the Cold", "Desert Plains", "Metal Gods" and "Devil's Child". "Painkiller" is kinda the song you have to ease into after hearing a lot of Priest, IMO.

Painkiller is one of his most impressive performances but yes, it doesn't show his full range. But no song does. That's why I hate the idea of having to choose only one song when I want to introduce someone to a singer. If I want you to get why Rob is held in such why esteem, Painkiller is only one of the multiple songs I'd play you.

Yes, and the decision was that there were words present when played backwards, but accidentally due to various sounds mixing together, such as cymbal noise. HELL, Just Reading the Lyrics Alone, Give You a Sense of the Intensity to Come.. PAINKILLER Faster than a bullet Terrifying scream Enraged and full of anger He is half man and half machine Rides the metal monster Breathing smoke and fire Closing in with vengeance soaring high He is the painkiller This is the painkiller Planets devastated Mankind's on its knees A savior comes from out the skies In answer to their pleas Through boiling clouds if thunder Blasting bolts of steel Evils going under deadly wheels He is the painkiller This is the painkiller Faster then a laser bullet Louder than an atom bomb Chromium plated boiling metal Brighter than a thousand suns Flying high on rapture Stronger free and brave Nevermore encaptured They've been brought back from the grave With mankind resurrected Forever to survive Returns from Armageddon to the skies He is the painkiller This is the painkiller Wings of steel painkiller Deadly wheels painkiller He is the painkiller This is the painkiller He is the painkiller This is the painkiller Pain! Pain! Killer! Killer! Pain! Pain! Killer! Killer! Can't stop the painkiller Pain (pain)

One of your colleagues has expressed an interesting idea, that Rob as a vocalist has been kinda made to sing with electric guitar and he basically could vowel sing the guitar solo from this song. This thought seem really close to truth) Thank you for your reviews, it’s very interesting to listen, keep it up. P.S. Halford is absolutely fantastic in so many aspects of singing, that it seems unreal

Young Rob Vocals = Cleaner Old Rob Vocals = Meaner The Painkiller record was the beginning of that "Meaner" phase that continues to this day.

#RebeccaFacts. Rob Halford and Rebecca went on a tour of a glass factory and while wondering away from the tour, got locked in the building for the night. The only way they could escape was breaking the glass windows with their super high octaves and they listened to Blind Guardian-The Bard Song/Valhalla (live from Wacken 2016) on the ride home.

Scott Travis is Judas Priest's drummer, and according to certain different websites he's either 6'4" or 6'6". Either way, he's a double-kick drum beast. And he turns 61 in September, making him a few months younger than I am. And yes those insane drums at the beginning of Painkiller are indeed real, and Scott played the Hell out of them. As he does on everything he plays.

You should check out the song "Betrayal" that Halford did with his solo project named 'Halford', kinda similar vocals as in this one

Painkiller was by far Judas Priest's best album. Every song on it was good.

This song is so hard to perform that Rob Halford has barely make it sound close the album a couple of times only when he was younger. It was an absolute relentless sonic assault when it came out back in the day
