I hope you all enjoyed this react. I wanted to take marcelito seriously as a vocalist and I hope his raw talent continues to develop because he has a fantastic voice and seriously sharp ears. I don't think I mentioned this in the video but I think his contemporary imitation is better than Groban's (another contemporary singer who performs this song with celine dion) and I'd happily listen to more of his performances.
Hi Julia, agree Marcelito just need to be one voices, his male voices owesome, please react indonesian Idol Lyodra x Judika singing " the Prayer" Also, y will be amaze😉
After all the reaction videos by vocal coaches, I think you are the only one that really picked up that he wasn't classically trained. Good job at seeing the difference and pointing that out. As you may heard by now, Marcelito is self taught with little education. For him to be where he is at now is a miracle.
Right, that is a very good thing. But I wish she would not blend it out so fast. As a non English speaker in the first place I do need a bit longer to reed the text.
@@jvoxfox as a stroke survivor, following a traumatic brain injury after my personnel carrier hit an IED in Iraq, I too need a bit longer to read the text. Thanks for noting the above comment.
Dear Julia, he hasn't had ANY training of any kind. He grew up with a hard life and learned on his own to listen to a song and repeat it. Please react to Marcelito The Power Of Love to hear how much better he sounds to Celine. Now, as far as Celine goes also PLEASE react to Dimash sing All By Myself and My Heart Will Go ON. Just do not ever use any videos from the horrible show The World's Best for reacting to anybody.
Celines version was always what it is: only a cover, a good one but just a copy cover, love Marcelitos cover more than Celines but primary I love the original, grow up with it... 😉😘
I never had an interest to listen to any singer 100 times. His voice is so amasing. Especially with two different voices. I will never get tired of hearing him singing.
First of all, I gotta say this is amazing on it's own. Though you can notice that in some notes he was not able to execute them perfectly. But it's understandable, what he's doing (switching singing voice from male to female) is very very hard and it's hard to control your muscles like that, not to mention that he doesn't have a formal vocal training so his technique might be a little bit flawed (as in it's not 100% clean, but it is like 95% good, so still awesome). If we're going to analyze his male singing voice and female singing voice separately based on this performance, I can say it's not perfect (again as I've said it's not like 100% perfect, but like 95%, which is already awesome) but the fact that he was able to do this, changing voice, in an instant, is truly remarkable and unique. I mean, the mere fact that he was able to sing this song is already amazing, taking on both Celine Dion's and Andrea Bocelli's parts. Imagine how much more he can improve if he has professional vocal training. Edit. I love how you analyzed this technically, as expected from vocal coaches. Not a lot of people understand the technical aspects of what Marcelito is doing here. Most people only hear and go "wow he can sing two voices", but there are a lot of things going on there, not just that. Also I think you're hilarious. Love that thanks Andrea note you put there 😆 Edit2: and note how he sang that song effortlessly, all while sitting down!
Marcelito makes it easy because he can. He is a singing angel on earth. For me, this is his absolute masterpiece, something of crystal clear sung, the bright madness
He is brilliant in vocal control, A duet alone, can transition in one 1/2 breath, its insane. not only that but controlling two different languages, two different voices..Effortless...Heavenly truly..Thanks for reaction, Peace
It's interesting how everything has to do with perception. English in not my native language, so I didn't notice any difference on his "ng", or something like that. I don't speak Italian, but I speak Portuguese and Spanish, so I could notice that sometimes his Z does not sound like the classical Italian Z ("tz" like in the word pizza), it sounds like S. His "speranza" to me sounds like "esperanza" (Latin American Spanish, where Z sounds like S) or "esperança" in Portuguese (where Ç sounds like S). I've watched the Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli’s video, and to me, this sound is different. English is such a difficult language when it comes to sounds. I admire singers that can sing in English in a good way. PS: Don't worry about your sense of humour, it's great :)
Given that the Philippines was ruled by the Spanish for 300+ years it's not surprising you hear that in his accent. As you would expect there are many Spanish words in the many Philippine dialects and the principal language, Tagalog. Even though Filipinos are taught English from elementary school age and that English is the official language of business and government, there is a definite Filipino flavour to their English. I know the accents well, given that I am a native-English-speaking Canadian who has the good fortune to be married to a Filipina. I also know that so many very talented singers from the Philippines have had little or no benefit from formal teaching, so the extent of their skills is even more amazing. I couldn't sing a note to save my life but I do appreciate the artform and I really enjoy these reaction videos from professional singers/teachers. Well done!
The "n" in front of a "g" is a technique used by male opera singers. The "g" sound is a full glottal stop and the sound comes out all at once, putting a small "n" in front of the "g" allows the singer to hear the tone before they commit. Most of us don't hear it -- trained singers like Julia listening closely do. For an untrained guy, Marcelito seems to have figured out a lot.
A lot of coach is posting their reaction., but few like you noticed the Imperfection thru their voice., your the 5th person on my list...! Keep up the gudwork., staysafe., godbless and more power to you and your channel...! Im your avid subs., whatever/ whenever you need our support..!
Hi coach you should also react all of his performances on AMERICA'S GOT TALENT specially his cover of " con te partiro" or "time to say goodbye" on AGT
In many ways, the most notable quality beyond his signing, is the confidence and fun he built-up with his performances. Imagine, living homeless on the street, to this. This is more than an achievement, this is wild 😜!! Love 💕 your way to be so enormously positive in your critique and looking astonishing at the same time 🙃🤣 speaking of classical and contemporary, if you want to see an opera singer astray, check out Morgan James, with PMJ, covering “dream on” by Aerosmith, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yq4KA0mUnC8.html love to see your reaction to this 🌹 🌸 🌺 Stay safe and enjoy the weekend
Just found you, as I did with all reaction videos covering Marcelito's performance of this duet. If you're interested, check his studio recording of this duet for a fantastic rendition by recording both vocals individually then overlaid with one another. This is the life story of Marcelito Pomoy. "To give you a background on the life of Marcelito Pomoy.... he was born in Bislig City, Surigao Del Sur province, island of Mindanao, Philippines into a broken family, his mother left the family when he was still at a very tender age of about 6 months old and his father ended up in jail. With no relatives wanting to help, Marcelito had no other choice but to join his father and stay inside the jail for about 2 years.. Eventually one of the prison guards was moved by his plight and took him to his home in the town of Diatagon close to Bislig City and his family provided for his needs while his dad had to continue serving his prison sentence. He left the only home he ever knew when he was roughly 7 years old upon learning they were not his parents and walked the streets of Bislig City in search of his dad whom he really never knew, often going for days hungry, doing whatever odd jobs he can do to be able to buy a piece of bread or scraps of food he could find on the street dumps. He learned to humm and sing himself to sleep. He did so much variety of odd jobs like being a helper in construction sites, mixing cement manually with gravel and water and carrying it to the guys needing to build walls of hollow blocks with cement, etc., selling boiled duck eggs which is a popular delicacy in the Philippines called "Balot" upto the wee hours of dawn, peddling ice cream to earn a few cents, he did fixing the pinballs up in bowling lanes daily, earning about $1 USD so he had food to eat then sleep on street curbs for several years, any job an under 16 year old kid could do Marcelito had done it. In my opinion God was guiding him all these years because he never thought of committing crimes just to be able to survive but work was plentiful for his tender age and he suffered tremendously to be able to eat daily but with Gods' Guiding Hand he made it in life. He would hang around clubs and restaurants while selling any goods he got and watched in amazement at the talent of the singers' performing while he watched from outside the door. He started singing himself and follow the way he sees the singers sing and thru the years he kept on imitating any singer he could watch on other people's TV singing. He was a no read no write kid struggling in life to fend for himself and survived all those years. He worked cleaning chicken pens in huge chicken farms and sang to the chickens while cleaning their pens and it was while singing to his audience of egg laying chickens that he discovered he could sing both a male and female voice when he was about 18 years old. We will never know if the hens produced more eggs while Marcelito was serenading them !!! He honed his skills on his own without any vocal coach to teach him because he couldn't afford to hire one then and after gaining confidence in singing other artists songs copying exactly the singers breathing pattern, diction, way of delivering their songs, etc. He moved to Manila still doing odd jobs that were available to him. Through the insistence of his new friends at work, he joined a Philippines TV network conducting a singing competition in Manila. He passed the audition and went on to the semi finals and grand finals.. He won the competition hands down despite so many excellent competitors. His monetary prize was such a huge amount to him that he never imagined he would be able to own in his lifetime as an uneducated adult. He signed a record contract with the recording studio arm of the same TV network and the rest is now history. His SUFFERINGS in life I just barely touched on the surface.... You won't be able to watch his RU-vid videos about his life story coming from Marcelito Pomoy because he is not comfortable talking in conversational American English. He can sing almost any song in so many different languages with the help of a vocal coach now but talk to him in English, interview him in English and he would need a translator to assist him. He is very rich now in terms of an average Filipino earning a decent living in Manila, he bought a decent home with his earnings from the singing contest and is one of the most sought after performer in the Philippines with concerts in Canada, Dubai, Spain and so many other countries. He married his girlfriend in the Catholic Church and now they have a child to enrich their married blissful life as a family. He was able to reunite his mother, father and siblings but they each have different families now. Marcelito has returned to school to be more confident in his life but it's still a very long way to go for him. He does an excellent job of emulating the diction, way of delivering of the singers he hears and watches. His favorite singer's are Celine Dion and Andre Bocelli and the PRAYER is his most favorite song, according to him, that he said launched his successful singing career. He first listens to each song he wants to sing, following their pronunciation, breathing patterns, etc until he's able to follow them like he did with Celine Dions songs, etc. He also jokingly said in the song THE PRAYER at the very end of the clip where he acted as if he coughed... he wanted to bring out the woman that's in him but did not elaborate any further ... and I would rather not speculate myself !!!! He is soft spoken and always a happy person to hangout with and decent but really funny jokes are so natural in him albeit often only in the Tagalog or Filipino language. The one thing that amazes me is that despite the millions of pesos (the Philippines currency ) he earns each year ... he remains as humble as a child and he has not allowed the riches of the world to go thru his head unlike so many people who changed their character when they became wealthy. Only Jesus Christ and Blessed Mother Mary can give Marcelito Pomoy a humble heart with all the success he and his family are now basking in... !!! He also is a natural born comedian, plenty of punchlines albeit mostly in Tagalog, the common dialect in the Philippines but he can imitate the voices of popular local and international personalities like Elvis Presley, Marlon Brando in the godfather movies, etc... and if you close your eyes you'd think the person Marcelito is emulating is present before you. I hope I have shed some light on Marcelito Pomoy. Let's not forget he still is in his grade school level education but he's getting there. I'm Mr. Briones, from the Philippines, too, like Marcelito is, but I've migrated to Australia living in the beautiful city of Sydney. I'm sorry if I've stepped on the toes of one of your viewers talking about his life story. I wanted to explain further in detail Marcelito Pomoys' life story. God Bless us all. Unique presentation technique mixing up flash words of your reaction and your verbal analysis of Marcelito 's rendition. Excellent! I especially watch (1yr now, and never get tired listening to him) the reactions which gives me a lot of satisfaction and the reaction comments.
A little harsh I think considering what he is doing.. You might want to actually listen to him sing in his OWN voice before deciding whether to take him seriously. Not to mention the fact that he is singing in two completely different languages of which neither one are his primary language of Tagalog.
I've never seen a professionally trained singer who can do the same as him. In other words, I think his voice and abilities can not be acquired through professional training.
Hi !!! There’s another Filipina singer aside from Morissette...Her name “Sitti”Navarro...Try listening to her !!! Thnx !!! Stay Strong and Healthy... GOD BLESS 🙏🏽🙏🏽💕
As for the larynx being higher on the Celine Dion part, you said it yourself when you said he switching between two different voices. I don't think it is because he doesn't have classical training, I think he knows that classical singing needs a lowered larynx. He was just going back-and-forth between two voices, I didn't remember to lower the larunx on the male part on time.
Definitely, I strongly suspect it's from all the switching. His technique when it's predominantly the male voice stays the same however and there are a few other things that give away a lack of training compared to if he were to work this song with a teacher. It isn't a bad thing cause he sounds good but there are some things that would really elevate this performance if he developed his technique a tad. As we know, singing takes time and vocal development can never really stop no matter how long one studies or dedicates to it. There's always something to learn or play with.
"Australia doesn't even make the top 10 for English speaking population" !!!?????? ...... No no no .... it's not true. I saw it in Wikipedia too. But you can't just believe it, especially the column of 'Total English speaker' .... You might be able to use only the column 'As first language' for your reference. I'm here in Thailand and no way, we have 17M of English speakers here. Only if you count those who can only say 'Yes No OK Hello Goodbye' as the English speakers, then it might get closer to 17 M. Even, this dictator PM and most of his cabinet can't speak English at all. There are more English speakers in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Myanmar, Malaysia .... and any Ex-Eng-colony countries than in Thailand ... I guarantee.
Totally shocked me too!! I wonder how they measure competency. For most Aussies English is the only language they'll ever speak :( but there aren't as many of us.
Hi Julia, thanks for the reactions😄 I enjoyed it 🥰😋 hope you can react to talented kids like TNT boys (flashlight), Zephanie (Disney medley) and Darren Espanto (I believe)😍😍😍
It's been 8 or 9 years since Marcelito won The Philippines Got Talent. I can understand not having any formal vocal training before that, but he hasn't had any coaching since then? He should be able to afford it.
@@plaidmoon5642 nope he has not. A lot of filipino singers learned from karaoke at early age and then gets tested on so many singing competion all around the philippines. Thats the reason its hard for filipino singers to become famous in the philippines because of so many top caliber singers who considered amateurs here but will take down any international singers for that matter
@@plaidmoon5642 I believe so him having vocal coaching here and there....but at the very least in terms of articulation, phrasing, enunciation I wouldve easily spotted that if it was corrected so nope I dont think so that he had formal training.
@@eugeniobalao609 Too bad he doesn't train properly to explore the full potential of his voice. Also, in today's industry, there are many world-known singers who aren't necessarily the best, some are mediocre even considering their fame. Flashy, catchy, easy music is the most listened to.
Yes I do hope he gets classical training. Just imagine what he can do. Dimash was classically trained at a young age, having a classical musician parents. Marcelito, on the other hand, had to teach himself how to sing by listening to radio, watching telly and karaoke. They are both great singers. I wish them all the best.

Great reaction, mate! Marcelito Castro Pomoy IS THE REAL DEAL Check out his life story; it is worthy of a movie I had the great privilege of meeting and watching him live last June in concert in Toronto Watching him live was like an out of body experience The videos DO NOT do his voice any justice Proud to be Filipino Cheers from Toronto From his biggest fan in Canada. BTW, the Filipino language has the letters "ng" as one letter; the language, called Tagalog, is phonetic and only has 20 letters in its alphabet including "ng". This may be what you are referring to here.
Interesting fact, this singer knows neither language he is singing in this song. So, switching to registers and two unknown languages at the same time? Talk about juggling a vocal presentation. And doing it so beautifully. This was a miracle to perform and to witness. Thank you so much. I can only imagine where a bit of professional coaching and training could take this miraculously talented young man.
I think he had a little English at that point, but certainly not much. He's definitely gotten better with his increased popularity due to AGT (touring in the U.S. and Canada).
Julia, you are so beautifully reacting to these videos... now waiting how more beautiful you would be reacting to Morissette's Akin Ka Na Lang on the Wish bus... excited!!

Try listening and reacting to Filipino singer Marcelito Pomoy singing his four songs at America's Got Talent, his version of You Raise Me Up, Endless Love, Ikaw Ang Pangarap, Narito Ako, his songs at One Magical Night Concert such as Despacito, Never Enough, Perfect, version of chinese song The Moon Represents My Heart, once popularized by Teresa Teng, his duet with Morisaette Amon The Secret Love Song and all his Filipinos songs including those he interpreted at A Song Of Praise (ASOP) like Aasa Sa Awa Mo, Ama and Pagbabalik.
Julia, FYI Marcelito finished 3rd grade only as his father was in prison and he became homeless and to survive he has to do odd jobs. He never had any music lessons or voice lessons. He learned to sing the dual voice when he worked in a poultry and sang for the chickens in female and male voices. He did not believe he is a good singer until a co-worker told him to try to join a singing contest and eventually won as a Grand Champion (the second season) of the Philippine GOT TALENT. He was invited by Ellen Degeneres to sing in her show and introduced him to Celine Dion whom he meet and they have pictures taken to prove it. try to react on his cover of "TIME TO SAY GOODBYE" and "THE POWER OF LOVE". I will wait for your reactions from Illinois USA lockdown.
Silly question, as there seem to be so many incredible Philipino/a singers.... Does their language, spoken since childhood, develop vocal aspects/controls that are unique? Not that other languages might also affect singing performance.
