Talking about surgical precision: From what I have heard, Amy has just one lung. She has been practicing breath control so much to compensate for this, that she has become an expert in it (Other singers with an expertise in breath control are for example Ariana Grande and AURORA). This is why she is the one who immediately sings after the echoing part, because the other two take more time to catch and control their breath again. And this also why she takes on the vocalisations that are the lengthiest and need the most vocal flexibility 🌬️ I love these stories of people who turn their struggles into strengths. Like Mandy Harvey, a deaf singer who relearned to sing using a visual tuner and muscle memory. Or Emily Haines from Metric, who is partially tone deaf, and just composes the melodies she is singing in such a way she can utilize it artistically ❤️🩹🎭
These girls are phenomenal, their covers and their own songs are of a rare quality (i feel) we last saw in the 60's/70's during the Motown days. And to think that Amy only has one lung and still is able to hold her notes and reach her range with ease, just amazes me. Check out their home isolation songs, people already mentioned Bohemian Rhapsody, but i want to add their medley's to the suggestions too, not only are those (as usual) spot-on, but the selection of songs and the way they combined those... just perfection. Interesting side note to the isolation recordings, nobody of them, the girls and the band, were in the same place... heck not even in the same town. And their timing is flawless even when they cannot see each other and have visual reference to bounce of of eachother, in those isolation videos you really can see how in tune they are and the tiny little fact that they have been singing together for nearly 20 years, they are young yet have more experience than plenty of other big name singers.. i cant do anything other than to stand in awe of what they can do. Ty for the upload, react and your words on the girls Julia :)
They actually called it ‘echo’ing’ themselves. Thy did it as a fun game when they were kids with simple kids songs and thought of it as a clever way to do the rapping part in this song.
Mathijs Beverloo One other technique that groups use are unison hip (dance) movements. You can spot this during intervals of the song and other times, that dance is independent. The reason I chose to reply to Mathjis Beverloo is because he was talking about ‘echo’ing (great new info for me). So, Julia, can you analyze and comment on their hips during the ‘echo’ing slow down, whether you spot a pattern of their hip movements. (Since I am a straight man you know I like to watch these sister’s hips) I would get so excited if you saw a pattern that I can’t see. And please point out any “personality” you see, if any, during this interval. I think their personality is expressed during all their songs with their dance movements, No?
Yep, Bohemian Rhapsody is insane, recorded 50 miles apart from each other, singing at their phone whit the music only in one ear!!! Just an other level and it is not for nothing that Queen valued it so highly and put it on their Instagram. And yes Julia you should check their home isolation versions out, Covid 19 Corona brought something very very good.
If you like to hear more of O'G3ne, I can recommend their cover of Emeli Sande's Clown or their isolation cover of Bohemian Rhapsody in which they each recorded their parts seperately from home isolation.
Wow! Thanks for putting so much effort into the editing of your videos. That slow-mo colour coding was really helpful. Fun fact: since you're Australian you might know this already, but it was thanks to their amazing performances on Beste Zangers that they were chosen to represent The Netherlands on Eurovision in 2017 and (obviously) they also did an amazing job there, in case you haven't seen it already and want to check it out.
Amazing breakdown. Thanks for taking the time to help me appreciate this feat. Their positioning seems related to how they want to "pan" the effect (as if the simple feat of syncing wasn't crazy enough).
I do not know if you're gonna see this comment @Julia, but they said in an interview they've done in 2015, that Amy only has one lung, due an illness from when she was very young! And yet, she still sings like if she had three! Loved your reaction!
Amy's voice is the smoothest and the most pleasing to the ears (her tone reminds me Ariana Grande's voice as well). Shelley's voice is more nasal but really good too. Lisa's voice is more husky and low. Please keep reacting to this group!
Your commentary is the best, most comprehensive I've seen. I'm not a singer and know nothing of vocal mechanics, but so far as content goes your reactions are far more thorough and interesting than any others (the Charismatic Voice is about the closest I've seen so far). If I had to pick out just one thing it would be the misspelling of separate. It broke my heart to see that. Keep up the incredible work, we really enjoy it here in the house.
@@jvoxfox I'm still working through it. Better now, but it was a real emotional touch and go there the last couple of hours. Trump, Covid, my kid recovering from surgery...and now this. Scary, hard times.
@@jvoxfox Little bit late reaction but I have watched several videos from you today and I guess if you can notice that one of the girls is missing a lung?
I have been at one of their concerts. Now they are standing nicely next to each other but during that concert they were each on different sides of the huge room and they still did that echoing!!!!
I love these girls, if you haven't watched it, then their home isolation version of bohemian rhapsody is a must. They did several home isolation songs all of which are worth watching.
Strange ...... nobody mentioned in the comments where OG3NE stands for. O - stands for their mothers bloodtype G3NE - stands for the genes that combine the (3) sisters In this clip the blond one is the oldest sister (Lisa - 26), the two on the side are Shelley (M) and Amy (L), age 24 (twins). Trivia: Amy (this clip on the left) is born with just one lung. Check out more of their Home Isolation songs, which are recorded in their own (seperate) house with just a mobile phone and later put together. When we had a lockdown they sang from their own seperate homes (without hearing eachother) using only a mobile phone to record. You won’t regret it. There are several Home Isolation songs you can choose from. Try the Home version which has been approved by Queen themselves on their Instagram. Oh and you might want to check out Amy’s solo from their theater tour last year: casualty of love, you’ll be amazed (and again will notice some similarities with Ariana Grande’s voice)!
Super nice breakdown of their singing technique. Never seen the complexity of echoing (and hence the talent of these three sisters) explained so clear before. Well done Julia! Thank you for sharing this with us.
You only usually get this amazing harmony , tone, the way you say your words, when you cut off together, from family. These young ladies are so spot on it's amazing...... I believe these are my favorite singers. I found them months ago and every song they sing sounds better than the last.
Another great Dutch talent; Davina Michelle. She did a cover of Pink and Pink actually reacted on it which then led to Davina being the opening act for Pink's concert.
Hihi, even though I'm dutch I don't really know them, but I just love your reactions. 😍 I love the harmonies but I have no idea how hard that and other techniques are, they make it seem so easy! So these videos make one appreciate music more 😄.
Another fantastic « nerdy » reaction. Bravo! I remember Floor Jansen rocking this very good show Beste Zangers FYI: my understanding of this show : gather 6 singers of different styles, each episode, one of them is in the spotlight, and the 5 others cover song from him/her or that they think is important for him/her. Here is a link from epidode 1, where Henk Poort is the main guest, and Floor sing "Vilja Lied" in German. Song start at 10:46 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XLLvM6fQOZU.html
Apparently they let groups into the Beste Zangers show as well, because this clip with OG3NE is from an earlier season. Floor was in season 12, OG3NE were in season 9 which aired in the spring of 2016.
They should remain this song to Sang!! (as in 'sing' but with attitude!!... not the past tense of sing.) The slow-mo echoing technique though!!!! 🤯🤯🤯Great job ladies!!! And great job Julia for the breakdown and explanation. I'd have never caught that. Now I can appreciate it in all of its wonder! ...but during the color coding, was it just me, or did anyone else get "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" flashbacks???🛸👽
I see a lot of recommendations for Bohemian Rhapsody which I would also 100% recommend but also the live version of Lights and Shadows they did on RTL Late Night.
If you'd like, you should check out the solo performances they have done when they go on tour. Amy does a Casualty of Love by Jessie J, Shelley does Colors of the Wind from Pocahontas, and Lisa does When We Were Young by Adele. They've also got some fantastic original music, too. Great reaction! Just subscribed in the last week or so and I am loving your channel!
there great, and for the people who didn't know Amy has only 1 lung..... that makes it even more awsome! #respect. seen them live in small concert there really awsome#love
This TV program is awesome , all the people grooving to the music are singers as well . So it happens very often that the other singers sing something out of the main guest his or her repertoire . I watch this show for about 15 years now
OMG why did it take me so long to find your channel you Australian Goddess! You are so expert in your reactions and you bring them with fun. Oh and you look stunning as well, I’ll be checking out your channel for sure and hope to find some singing from you as well, keep up the good work and thanks for reacting to this Dutch sensation Og3ne ❤️👍
You should react to their home isolation songs. In the last months they were in a lockdown because one of the sisters has only one lung and could not take the risk of getting Covid19. All the home isolation songe were done by each on her/his own based on a base track and merged all together. Even then the timing and harmonies are amazing. On the Ogene channel you can also find solo songs by each of them.
Love love love! Love them! So happy that my favourite voice coach reacts to them. :) Of course professional analysis as usual, and still soo pretty. By the way O'G3NE even have a video about echoing.: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u-YDnVZtKeM.html So i have just commented there to check this video for proper vocal coach analysis... About this show where they perform: Beste Zangers is held every year, where a group of singers travel to a pretty place and in every episode they pick one of them and the others sing a song special to him/her. No knockout, just fun and high high high professionalism. Great show, they have so mush fun, for example Maria Fiselier opera singer sang a rap song in one of the episodes. So cool show! ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8YyuIkVSx-8.html ) Cheers from Hungary! Gabor
i first seen them when dolly parton watched them cover her song. such precision. they're like a modern day andrews sisters / en vogue. they put in the time to be able to do what they do.
Great analysis. Really enjoyable to hear you explaining. Please check out their version of a song called "Het Is Over", which they also sang in this show (Beste Zangers 2016). Although that song is in Dutch, it is more storytelling than "Sing" and the harmonies are awesome. "Het Is Over" was written by Jeroen van der Boom, who sits right in front of them on the couch in that video as they perform his song...
Shelley most of the times does the Lead or the high harmonies and sometimes Low harmonies. She has the highest range and can sing the highest of the group. Amy most of the times does the high harmonies or the lead. She has a really high chest/mixed voice, she often switches harmonies with her twin sister during a song when it becomes really high. Lisa does the low harmonies and sometimes the lead. She has the lowest range but she can also go really high. They have been singing together since 2007 and they are really popular in The Netherlands, they have also won the voice of holland 2015. They started doing echoing when they were kids that’s why they are so good at it. Can you react their dance medley it’s epic ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HlPTASMB6rA.html
Try out Falling in Reverse- The Drug in Me is Re-imagined... It is actually a remake from their own song The Drug in Me is You... It would be great for a vocal coach like you to breakdown the difference between the two!!!
They explained to the others what echoing is and in order to make them aware of the part in which they use this technique they said "we will signal by hand when we do it." So just for the record, they normally don't do the hand gesture.
Julia, if you haven't yet had the pleasure to see their 2014 Voice performance of "Emotion", you must take the time to watch; it is exquisite. Actually it's stunning. Take a minute...And prepare for magic!
Hi Julia, really good review/reaction video to these wonderful ladies from my home country The Netherlands. You should watch more of them, they are awesome. I saw you know another Dutchie too, Floor Jansen 👍🏻 You cannot miss two other brilliant vocalist from our country, Davina Michelle (famous here, and even Pink was in awe of her talent and Davina performed during her concert here) and Glennis Grace, a great singer and most people around the world know her because she sometimes sounds like Whitney Houston. As often, not all hugh talents are acknowledged worldwide. But maybe you are willing to get to know them? I will look up a link for you. Bye! 🤗
The link to Davina Michelle which made her famous is (Pink): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T5ZLdNA_wOc.html. Ze brought out a album, my own world. She has several amazing own songs! Must listen to too 😁
If you look up the full clip, they do the echoing part slower themselves later in the clip. Like out of the blue, they get asked and just do it on the spot
If you want to hear the the girls solo: Here are the live solos from the "Three Times a Lady" tour: Lisa - When We Were Young ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sgVW96cypqM.html Amy - Casualty of love ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--lh_b_69Npw.html Shelley - Colors of the wind ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z6evDZmQKm8.html
They explained that they played the echoing thing when they were young childeren, and i know that they have performed and did talent television shows at a really young age (10 years old ) . So they playfully trained this for many, many years.
The hands during the echoing are just for the spectators at the show. They explained before they started they would use the hands only to show others which part everyone does. But as you said, it goes so quick you can't follow it.
if you like familial harmonies you should check out Cimorelli. It was six sisters in the group, but one left a while ago. Still five sisters with such strong voices is amazing. Another singing god was definitely in play!
In the full episode of the series they do it in slow down! Just saying…. If you are interested. They did this as a gimmick when they were young and developed into something insane
Dear Julia, thank you for your explanation of this song and O’G3necrisp,…really, so to say, but did you see also their performance of Bohemian Rhapsody from Queen? Even Queen was impressed on their Instagram stream. I do hope you want to see and comment this.
You should see their version of Queen ‘s Bohemian Rhapsody being all three in separate quarantaine .....by the way Amy has only one lung and a heart condition, so quarantaine is very important for her because of COVID-19
Hi Julia, you should really react to there song from Queen Bohemian Rhapsody!! During the virus of covid they recorded this song in isollation.. but it's sick how good they are even apart from each other!! Timing on point! You will really love that one! Love your reaction to my dutch sisters! Thank you! Love Chantal😘
And to think Amy only has one lung. BTW, there's a fun video out there comparing Ariana Grande's belts to Floor Jansen's, if you care to have some fun in a reaction :D
One of Og3ne's best songs (in terms of harmony) from a few years ago they were here about 15 years old This song was written by their father Rick Vol : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qtYj_dpNihM.html
