@ Cuz he's the man. He's got chop's for day's, very tasty vibrato an can play his ass off and isn't technical just for the sake of being technical ! His personality an charism effortlessly flows through him when he is playing., you can tell he loves what he is doing, and is, an always will be inspiration for people like me. He is a big reason why Pantera is such legendary/respected band! December 8, 2004, he was tragically gun down ON stage while preforming what he love to do. Shredding faces and playing guitar!! 🤘💘

It is not after but before, the USSR dissolved in December of 1991 and this concert was in September of 1991, the month prior this concert there was a failed coup attempt in August of 1991 so i am pretty sure you are mistaken with that. In my opinion this concert is the greatest recorded metal concert ever for 2 reasons. Due to the importance of the political message/reasons behind this venue and the sheer energy that came from that crowd during that day, don't forget people were celebrating the end of decades of oppression by a communist regime...

I love the fact that Eddie Van Halen loved Dimebag's style and originality so much that he put his original black and yellow bumblebee guitar in his coffin and told everyone that an original belongs with an original. I’m very TEXAN and saw these guys live 6 times. The first one was in a fairly small club here in San Antonio. They were just starting to pick up speed and be recognized everywhere. Me and my 300 lb. Friend just held onto the barricade in front of the stage. It wasn’t easy because of the madness right behind us. They had airport landing lights on both sides of the stage pointing straight out to the crowd. They blazed those things perfectly timed in the dark to the massive,fast drum sound. That’s how they Started the show! Audio, visual sensory overload at top volume. This was peel your face back music! Still to this day, the best small show I’ve ever seen! That’s why I like to call them The TEXAS STATE ASSAULT TEAM! Zero F**k around. It’s only for the strong. 😁👍 Ha Ha! I said WHAT?!! a lot the next day. Great TEXAS band! It’s universally understood. The guitarist, Dimebag Darrell is also considered to be one of the very best guitarists in Rock.

@@theodosios2615, that’s appropriate because every other vehicle in TEXAS is a truck. That sounds like a Hellava show! I saw SABBATH reunited twice! Once with DIO and once with the original band. HEAV-VYY. When Bill Ward rejoined for the project, the live power was immense. And I had already seen SABBATH and OZZY numerous times each. That all original members show was next level. No, that would be Michael and Rudolf Schenker . Not only did Dime list Michael as a major influence, the Schenkers are the best lead and best rhthym guitarists respectively , and Rudolf is the 2nd best overall hard rock/ metal guitarist behind only his brother. The Abbotts are fantastic, but, Michael, himself is listed as a major influence to over 30 of the best metal players from the 80’s and 90’s, Dime among them. This ignores how many people play a Flying V because Michael popularized it. And Rudolf? He’s just the best metal rhthym guitarist of alltime as well as the second best lead.

I often roll my eyes at reaction videos, but this one seems pretty authentic and funny. One thing to note is that these guys were playing 300 person capacity venues less than a year before this concert. Their reaction of disbelief for the crowd size always makes me smile. They didn't know what they were getting themselves into, but they responded by pouring everything they had into this blistering performance. This was their springboard to huge success in an era when this type of music was frowned upon. It's not often you see one band carry an entire genre for a decade and keep it relevant. Love metal or hate it, you have to appreciate what these guys did stylistically and musically.

He used it as somewhat of a safety net/crutch...... I understand that adrenaline and expended energy means that you can leave yourself struggling at times when you sing live, but he was SO much better when wasn't having to be grunty for most of the show and you got to hear his full range...... Sadly by the mid/latter part of the 90s he'd fried his voice (and spiralled into addiction) and it meant you rarely heard him at his best anymore.

And yet, he could still hit the notes at the end of Cemetary Gates. There are only a handful of singers that can do both of those things well. Phil is kind of a gruffer version of Chris Cornell. That is the highest praise I can give him. Another guy who had a similar style to Phil, but not quite the range on the high end (But still impressive) is Brian Fair of Shadows Fall. On most of the stuff from The War Within, you see that interesting mix of vocal growls and screams as well as smooth, melodic vocal tones. Plus he is a 6’3” white guy with dreds down to mid-calf. Now THAT is an interesting individual.

It's been about 17 or 18 years now since Dime got murdered on stage. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I found out. I was in the same town I'd missed getting to meet them in about 8 years before because they cancelled the concert. I was physically sick all day after I heard it on the news that morning and on the radio all day that next day. No matter how many years go by, I've still never gotten over it and I guess I never will. I still don't wanna believe it's real. He was my hero. :( He still is.

THE best live band I have ever seen and domination live is 🤘 Saw them live twice in the early '90's and even bagged me a Dimebag pick from the man himself. One of the very few things in my life I will never get rid of or give away. Dime left a legacy few could or will ever match.

I saw them 3 times live. 1st time I saw them it was one of the biggest mosh pits I think I’ve ever been in or seen. 3rd time I saw them I was able to get myself through the pit into the front right in front of Dime. It was like seeing Hendrix. There was a power and sound that I saw come over him when he soloed. I will never forget them when they were around. Rip Vinnie and Dime. I’m sure by now the two of you have written masterpieces. Can’t wait to hear em on the other side. Much love Rebecca. Thank you for putting these guys out there and I always love your take on them. ✌🏼❤️

Saw these guys many times throughout the years... even in the small clubs when they first blew up. Before they went full out heavy they were actually glam metal, and Phil sounded very Rob Halford-ish. Check out the Power Metal album sometime for a completely different perspective. Once again, great video! 👍

Yes it is, The Great Southern Trendkill is criminally underrated and by far my favorite album they put out. No sleight to any other but it had so much variety and complexity, they tried things they had never tried before and it's like a steamengine picking up speed from start to stop. Even during the mellower songs there is an intensity that's as palpable as any other fast paced face shredder they play 👌

Phil slowly lost his ability to perform live in the same way he was able to perform in the studio. I realize that some hard-core fans don't see this. The studio version of this song shows his ability to move between growl and clean vocals in a way that not many singers could accomplish.
@airfixx_8952

It always baffles me that hardcore fans can't recognise this and just accept it for what it is; by the mid 90s he'd wrecked him voice.... By the time the drug problems kicked in, much of the remaining energy and power as a performer had been lost. The rest of the band were as good as ever and Phil still had presence and magnetism; but seeing Pantera live in the early 90s compared to the latter days is a vastly different experience........ It doesn't mean those shows weren't an extremely enjoyable and visceral experience; but one has to be extremely blinkered not to recognise this.

R.I.P Dime... The Greatest Of Guitarists To Walk The Planet.. He was so good at age 14 they had to make him the judge in the end for guitar competitions .. as he used to win everyone he entered into. (he also used to take his guitar to the toilet with him... thats dedication)

These guys performed like this drunk and hungover for over 20 years. Hard alcoholics is an understatement but every single one of their shows they came out and kicked ass for their fans. These guys truly and whole heartedly loved every one of their fans. They partied with their own fans on a daily basis. There will never ever be another Pantera. These dudes were on a whole other level.
