Adele’s trade mark has always been her uber rich vocals - that is exactly why all she ever needed was a piano, or a guitar, for accompaniment to create a rich sound. That is actually what Tristan Paredes, another vocal coach and reactor, pointed out - and that she is the only one out there at the moment who puts vocals and lyrics to the front.
This cut is a genius in many respects. The fact that they let her sing through, no auto-tune, no punch ins, wtc... hope this is a new trend for pop music. REAL music.... recorded by real musicians, without technological perfections...
I wondered if she could beat "Someone like you" ,or "hello" (which broke the internet on its` release) ,but this is fast becoming my favourite song Adele has done.Just simply beautiful.♥♥
Just a piano, a _real_ bass, a drum machine which sounds much like a heartbeat, and a voice that's mostly untouched. All spirit. I heard it's about her divorce, and boy does it resonate!!
I'm 62, but I can hit the notes. No where as cleanly or artistically as this woman who is a gift to us. Retired from vocation (IT - 43 years) and being in an actual band (23 years, plus a couple that lasted less than 2 years), all avocational. This particular song moved me like first hearing "Rosanna" driving around with my future and present wife on a Sunday morning in college. And, the the name of the band then was "Blaze" (always hated that, but they had it when I joined.)
I love her! Incredible moving powerful emotional soulful song. A piece a musical art that transcends many other vocalists. This song will make history & go platinum
I burst into tears before I even heard it when I read the description for why she made the album, which was to explain to her son when he's older, why she chose to implode his world in the pursuit of happiness! 😭😭😭😭 BTW I'm new to your channel and IDK if u do this but my daughter sings (there's a couple of new videos on my channel) and I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and any tips x thanks! 🤗 xxxx _ps I'm working towards getting my daughter into the Brit school for performing arts which is where Adele, Leona Lewis, Jessie j and Amy Winehouse went! 🤞 BTW thank-you so much for your insights and I will be showing this to my daughter immediately! 🤗 ♥ xxxx big hello from London 👋 🇬🇧🥰
This analysis was so cool. Its cool how you can really analyze any type of singer and singing and even demonstrate it. Most so called voice teachers cannot even point out techniques but you got it all. Its funny how you blended it all together like now I understand how Adele could breakdown to full false chord scream is she wanted and how she is using that technique to make only a subtle texture change in her voice. That is so amazing. Its always a pleasure to watch and learn from your videos and im so thankful from the howard jones video cause he used to be my vocal hero in my teenage years and I could figure out what he was doing and now I can thanks to you. Love it, keep doing what you do!
Wow, what timing! It just occurred to me the other day to use an Adele song (Hello) as a reference track for the first of the new songs I have written that I am about to start tracking. So much to unpack and take in -- thank you!
Adele makes me soooo proud to be British. I've been to see her live twice and she sounds amazing. She's never used auto tune, that girl CAN SING. I'm a massive fan of this lady XXX💗💗💗
Thanks so much Chris. Your insightful analysis opens doors into so many nuances and possibilities for vocal expression. Many lessons here to learn. I love how you celebrate other singers.
Yeah, this song is so good. They really put all the heartbreak energy they had into one piece of music. So amazing. Deserves all this attention. Great how you point out all these moves she makes with her voice. She really mastered her instrument.
@@officialWWM It's so sad to hear someone say this because she literally is documenting her life through all her albums and if you can't empathize with what she is feeling through this song (let alone all her others), you should still be able to sympathize with the emotions of the lyrics. (I also realize this is a quite an old comment but I just got here XD)
Alright gotta say, you’re good man. This is the first time i see a reaction video from you (usually don’t watch reaction videos at all but I was curious since i saw another video from you… ) as a vocalist myself (and coming from years away from music, and still working on getting my full range back) I find your analysis very interesting. Subbed and curious to check out more of your content! I’m always happy to learn new things and you have a very different approach than my old vocal coach! 😊
@@chrisliepe You know what you’re talking about, that’s for sure! I taught singing lessons in the past so I can tell (or at least I think i can lol). As I said I’m always interested in improving. Been back to making music for about 6 months now, and I know one NEVER stops learning (at least if you’re humble enough to recognize you don’t know everything and can always improve!). Also, I’m impressed that with all your subs you still find the time (and will) to interact with comments! Even on a human level I’m impressed man! Thanks and keep it up!
@@DrewProject I will! It wouldn't be worth it for me without the interaction :) It's great to have other vocal coaches adding comments as well, so thanks for speaking up!
Very engaging and interactive exploration of the multi-layered mosaic of vocal technique using this rich example. LOVE the demonstrations highlighting not just particular effects and techniques but also the PRACTICE of trying things, assessing, and trying again, focusing on the sensations, adjusting all along the way, this is masterful teaching and learning! My favorite part is from 11:19-11:50, discussing the intentional "bump" register shift technique. There has to be a term for that - I know this is what yodelers do....
Sorry for all the comments but this is amazing that you're showing how to sing like this. If I would have known that one of the things I used to do when singing was something I should have dove into deeper, I'd be unlocking something I didn't know I needed. CHRIS YOUR THE GOAT!! AWESOME!!
Also Chris I'm digging the studio man!! It's turning into a bad ass studio, there's so many things I could do in that room 😆, you need a set of electric drums. Drums are so fun but I'm a guitar player above anything else.
My dad is a musician he's mainly a lead guitarist, but my dad's naturally gifted can & has learned to play by ear! Been playing since before I was born. Learned when he was 16 & now is 65. I'm 39 & grew up w/ music. I know do back up vocals for my dad's band & choreography. He plays drums, keyboards, & harmonica. I've never seen him try an instrument he couldnt play. Adele is AMAZING! I'm gonna let him hear this I know he'll like it.
@@Taureanfitness I'm kinda the same way with instruments too, I taught myself guitar by ear and once I unlocked how to do that I started paying attention to all the other instruments. I try to play everything I can but piano is a tough one lol. That's so cool your in your dad's band I bet that's fun as hell. I know running a band is hard work though too.
I really like the professional approach to Adele's song. A great singer. You talk about details that are important to professionals. I suggest reacting to the young singer Angelina Jordan who made some Adele's covers as well as to the latter. Many of Angelina's listeners as well as singing professionals say that AJ's covers are better than the originals. I am very curious about your opinion. Regards, Tadek from Poland
@ Chris Liepe you're incredible! I'm trying to learn better vocals & have only had some formal training. I can read music & can sing but need major work. I'm signing up to take your course. I love your channel & the analyses you do. This is a great coverage reaction in depth video on a phenomenal vocalist whom I love.
Not sure who the asshat is that disliked this video but they're just that, an asshat. Great vocal breakdown. You can learn from artists who you don't listen to as much as the ones you do. It's great to realize that it doesn't simply come naturally, it's crafted, rehearsed, well thought out.
just started seeing this video!!! thanks man for your continued production of such quality content!!! and (i hate to be a nag) could u please react to meet me in the morning(the studio version) and the house of the rising sun(animals)
These great singers like this do not think of this stuff that you're talking about they just sing naturally actually most of them have no training whatsoever it's the tone they just feel it man
You're right! But so many singers don't know how to "just feel it" so it's super helpful for many to dissect these techniques (even if the original singer isn't aware) and put them in our own voices! That's a great way to learn what our voices can really do! We develop certain muscle memory attributes by going through this exercise and then, when we learn to be in the moment, our inspiration combines with our learned muscle memory and we do things with our voices we never thought possible!
Hey Chris, your one the select view I ever know who not only listens to Myles Kennedy from alter bridge, but has covered his technique and style and I was impressed at how well your taught me how he does what he does. Now on RU-vid there are 3 songs with his isolated vocals and It would be amazing if you covered them! Particularly the song Come to Life! What do you think?!
Heaps of people (I'm not one of them, I love her), esp those who brought tickets to her Vegas shows that were recently postponed. I watched some clips on FB just yesterday of her appearance on The Graham Norton Show, she was trying to explain why she postponed......and holy sh*t she's getting some hate in the comments on those vids!!! It's sad really. Apparently she's not human, therefore not allowed to make mistakes or be less than PERFECT :(
@@crystalk98 that’s just sad. People have lost any type of compassion nowadays. The level of entitlement and how quick to hatred people are is scary to witness sometimes. The simple fact that people have the time and energy to put into publicly hating someone baffles me… oh well. Thanks for sharing, i had no idea… I shouldn’t be surprised probably 🤷🏻♂️
I have a weird question for everyone? I love woman singers and I always got crap about it when I was a younger musician. When you tube was just starting there wasn't much for people playing covers or really anything for that matter lol. Anyways I eventually came across the Flyleaf acoustic versions of there stuff then came across a bunch of Amy Lee acoustic covers of Evanescence stuff and I was immediately hooked on women that can sing. Now I like all people that can sing, I don't practice as much as I should be but I know singing is, hard to do good. I appreciate Chris too for explaining how vocals differ between different people/ genders. So I guess my question is am I alone?
Also check out a 15 year old girl from Norway, Angelina Jordan. She is a music genious and prodigy. She just dropped her cover of this song. IMO better than the original.. 😊
Beautiful song. Of course not Angelina Jordan vocal level which I prefer. Very well written song from Adele, but she knows that craft at her fingertips.
Nice reaction. Adele is a superb singer songwriter. Nevertheless, please react to Angelina Jordan cover of this same song. You WON'T BE dissapointed. Amazing too.
Is this voice switch she's doing the same thing that Kurt Cobain, Ben folds, Steve perry do? When they can do that flip, I learned to do that years ago but it's harder to do now. Is that something I should be working on again?
It is! Just sounds so different with her... I'd strongly recommend working on switching resonances like this DAILY. It unlocks so much range and agility in every voice!
That's an interesting point... I see that too! she's carved a niche for herself and can get away with things that others can't. If you think about it, that's pretty common with mega star singers or frontmen. (Mick) ahem :)
@@chrisliepe very interesting analysis and demonstrations❤️ Now, I would love you to react to Angelina Jordan who also is a great Adele admirer cover her song in her own way
Can you make a video about Angela Aguilar please? I recommend you to listen to "Cucurrucucu Paloma", "La Llorona" (the orange and purple album is the newest), "Cielo Rojo" or "La Malagueña". You won't regret it!
I HAVE A VIDEO-IDEA-REQUEST :-) I'm new to singing, startet a band, we have a rehearsal-space, BUT have (more or less) no idea what to do with vokals.. Basically everything in between my mouth and the ears of everyone attending. What is the best, for a resonable amount of money? to get the job done. I fint ton of advise for studio and live gigs, all we want is something we can set up to practice. Can you help ??
