Piliya Corrales descended from the Spaniards who decided to stay and remain in the Philippines. And so, she is more Spanish in blood but a hundred percent Filipina. She speaks fluent Spanish, English, Tagalog and Cebuano, the province spoken in the province of Cebu where she is from. Shewas past 70 when she performed in that video. She is 82 years old by now and she still can sing.
Pilita Corales won't be called Asia's Queen of Songs...she must be in her late 70s that time when she performed this in a U. S. audience. Now, at her mid-80's but still looks as amazing as she is. A true Philippines' gem.
She is the one who discovered Gary Valenciano from a singing group. She also host the singing contests that Regine Velazquez participated and Regine husband that is Ogie Alcasid is also a member of the singing group along with Gary Valenciano. Pelita is a living legend and a living story of how the music industry came to be.

Pilita's late aunt was classical singer whose repertoire was Bel Canto and French opera. Pilita was taught the fundamentals of classical singing but never really pursued opera nor did she really train more in classical music as she pursued her own musical path that's different from her aunt.

Her signature song, I believe, is “Usahay.” It’s in the Visayan dialect, being from Cebu, the same birthplace of Morissette Amon. Filipinos, no matter which region they are from, like to identify with the Tagalog dialect. Morissette seemed to me to hesitate acknowledging her native dialect and she broke the ice by including “Usahay” in her cover of “Moon River,” a daring move. But more and more, she has included the Visayan (Cebuano) dialect in her songs.
Legend indeed. Her tones are phenomenally gorgeous, and she's easy on the eyes. Sammy Davis. Jr. must've been smitten when she did a front act for his show in Manila. He invited her to perform with him at Caezar's Palace in Vegas. She did-, and she rocked Vegas! She ended up performing in Vegas longer than planned. That's how phenomenal Pilita is. Kay Bisaya man! 😍 With her legendary career in and invaluable contributions to the Filipino music industry, she should at least be nominated for National Artist for music already...and awarded the honor!
Pilita is the only singer here in the Philippines who sings and speaks Spanish. We lost the Spanish language when the Americans colonized us. Now everybody speaks English here. Only the oldies like me know Spanish. 😊

You guys should check out the Chinese singer Hua Chenyu. His voice is utterly phenomenal and sings pretty much every genre. I recommend I Really Want to Love This World, Qi Tian, Nunchucks, and Ordinary Path to name a few from his stellar discography. I promise you will not be disappointed!!!!!
