She attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training. Not sure when she started there, but it was when she was young. The first video of her in a recording studio was there when she was 6. I read somewhere they moved to L.A. because she had outgrown the vocal coaches in Norway, not sure how true that is though.

She said in a interview at the age of 8 that she started vocal training 4 years ago. So that would put it at about 4 years old when she started. She knew what she wanted at an early age. At the age of 3 she set a goal of singing for Simon. Mission accomplished!
She took piano and other lessons after school.I think she took singing lessons but she doesn't sound like she took from a reproduction instructor. She attended a Waldorf school. The Waldorf school has an holistic approach to education. It was perfect for Angelina.

I became a subscriber to your channel when you first featured Angelina Jordan and am delighted that you are going to continue your journey of discovery. BEWARE! This is a long comment. I hope you have the patience to read to the end. Simon was correct when he said that he had never heard that version, as Angelina had Angelina re-arranged it for the performance. She does this with many of her cover songs. Her fans call it "Angelina-fying" a song. The lady who first stood and clapped at the end of Angelina's performance was her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani. On her right was Angelina's mother, Sara Astar, then Juliette,her sister and then her uncle, Michael Astar who is also her Manager. Heid Klum hit the Golden Buzzer. So Angelina went straight to the Final, where she performed Elton John's classic "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". My introduction to Angelina was on her first appearance at Norway's Got Talent and I didn't expect much from a 7-year-old. Just a cute little girl, all nervous, rushing the song in parts, hesitating and then stumbling over or forgetting her words and generally acting her age and doing her best to get through a childish song like "Twinkle, twinkle little star". What did I see? Well, it was a seven-year-old child, with wild hair and gaps in her mouth, where there once were baby teeth. And that was when the normal perception ended and things turned upside down. She confidently answered the questions put to her by a Judge. Declared she was going to sing a song by the legendary Billie Holiday. Gestured off-stage for the technician to start the music and then started singing. The body of the 7-year-old was still there but the voice wasn't. Or was it? I was surprised then and that surprise is still with me, some six years later. I have followed her career since I saw that first video on RU-vid and in the six years she has been singing publicly she has mastered many musical genres, including Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz,Pop, R&B and Soul, EDM and Rock and covered songs first performed by many famous singers, like Adele, Whitney Houston, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Lana del Ray, Gloria Gaynor, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong and many others. What is more extraordinary is that she takes ownership of every song she sings while still paying respect to the original. You will notice that she never goes into unnecessary theatrics. Never sings those high or low notes unless they are absolutely necessary. Never projects herself in any performance which says "look how good I am". What stands out for me is how a very shy and humble girl in her normal life, can be transformed into the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing, once she starts to sing. Although the gift of singing and all her performances appear to be effortless, Angelina works very hard to ensure that the one she is going to record reflects what she sees as the correct way to meld both lyrics and melody. You have keep reminding yourself that this is a 7th grader!! At only 13, she is the only one on the planet that could turn such a "dark" song into a love ballad.
I actually don't agree that her performance of I Put a Spell on You wasn't a big deal. For a 9 year old kid it was and in fact I would have been if she was 29. But I do agree that this is next level genius. It's her timbre and the smooth transitions between her different voices, the insanely sophisticated control over her vibrato, the intricate melismas and more, but mostly it is the emotion that she projects. She doesn't use all these techniques for show. They are subordinate to the feeling and the message that she is conveying. One thing that doesn't get discussed enough with Angelina is her razor sharp, intense focus. She's had it since she was 7. She completely owns every single sound that she makes, and like Bjorn says, it is a deliberate conscious effort to create this colourful tapestry of sound.
When he said it was no big deal, he meant some little vocal moments he felt she didn't have control. I don't think he was referencing the entire song - just a couple of small parts.

Thanks for your reaction. Just so you know, while the song is not original this arrangement is her creation. As you noticed, she began acapella because she has perfect pitch and then the only instruments were acoustic guitar, piano and her voice. Not only can she sing and arrange but this performance is a tour de force technical entity
I’m making this comment for ALL the people doing reaction videos. I enjoy watching the honest reactions. However, I really would like to see some of them make an effort to find out about the song. Find the original recording. Who recorded it. The name of the original artist. The songs name. Listen to it. For example this version This was a song from the rock band named Queen. Maybe not the most sophisticated or analytical reaction I have seen, but it is clear from the heart and I appreciate that. There are people with Doctorate degrees in music here on RU-vid that do all those super analytical reactions with countless breaks and interruptions of the performance, that does not impress me. That is nothing more than technical analysis and I'm just not interested in that, I actually find it rather annoying.
