Finally Chris de Burgh , one of my all time favorite singers. He is such an amazing, very underrated artist and a wonderful human being. This is of course his most famous song, but he has so many beautiful songs , too many to mention. Maybe “ Borderline” would be a good one to react too.

I saw him in a club in San Antonio. Probably 1983 when he was touring for Man on the Line. I was not old enough to be in the club. Amazing show. And after the show he just jumped off the stage and mingled with the crowd. I wish he had a bigger audience in the US.

Back around the time when this song came out I had gone out to dance club with a female friend of mine. Not a girlfriend but we were pretty close. We danced and talked the whole evening up until they were about the close the place. I asked her to dance one more dance with me and she said there was no more music. I took her by the hand, led her to the dance floor and sang this entire song to her as we were the only ones dancing. I think it made her fall in love with me. We were together for quite a long time, but not any more. I still think about her and that night whenever I hear this song. Magical song and a magical moment.

I remember my brother getting the very best of Chris de Burgh out of the library and it had some great song on it particularly ship to shore, don’t pay the ferryman, in a country churchyard and satin green shutters. I bought the 12 inch single of Lady in Red after it came out when I was in Scotland for the commonwealth games in Edinburgh and I left it in the window of my parents car and it warped. I think the b side was say goodbye to it all which was a great track.

My beloved parents were married in the late 1950’s and were beautiful ballroom dancers together - they had never danced with another partner. My Dad died at 64 years old, far too young, and my Mum would play this song when she couldn’t contain her grief as it was the last song they danced to. Beautiful.

I've always loved Chris de Burgh; Don't Pay the Ferryman is one of my favorite songs from the 80s. But you corrected yourself from calling him British to Irish. He's actually more British than Irish. His parents were British but he lived much of his early life in Ireland but he went to boarding school in England. So his accent is more British than Irish.

Please show and comment on Frank Sinatra still near his peak, at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8Q0zijm_LOQ.html during his revolutionary partnership with Nelson Riddle's arrangements (band doesn't ever play the melody and FOLLOWS his acapello lead. Sinatra had spent years perfecting his breath control, innovating his phrasing, and speaking the ballads directly to each listener! An entire generation of singers tried to copy his style (and several still do, like Michael Buble). By the mid-1960s (his in color specials), smoking and drinking cost him his voice and breath control, so he'd "speak-sing" his songs in a "jazzed up" way (such as hits like "(I did it) My Way."

I think when people object to things being described as "cheesy" they have the slang dictionary definition in mind: "(informal) not very good or original, and without style, in a way that is embarrassing but funny. Chintzy: The movie's special effects are cheesy and unconvincing."
