Loved your critique, it's fascinating how different people hear different things when critiquing. I absolutely love Cynthia Erivo, if you want to know more about her and hear her diversity of singing I recommend listening to the first time she went on the Terrell Show, it's a two part episode. Can you react to her singing "I'm here" live on stage, not the Colbert version.
I'm so glad you reacted to this. I love anything that Cynthia sings. I had actually never heard "Alfie" until she sang it and I fell in love with it. She is so ridiculously talented.
For whatever reason I have become obsessed with this performance and have watched the Vocal Coaches discuss it...Your thoughts and insight stand out, your sincerity and reactions are real and charming, very nice.
Fantastic 👏🏻 She did this whole performance at the Royal Albert Hall paying homage to artists like Shirley Bassey, Etta James etc. It’s amazing and definitely worth checking out. Her rendition of Edelweiss is everything. This is her moment 👏🏻
Such an engaging performance. I've watched it several times already. Her communication with the audience only enhanced her delivery. I was so happy to see Dionne's smile and nod of approval. Such a beautiful tribute. Brava!
The full honorees this year were Dionne Warwick, Queen Latifah, Billy Crystal, Renee Fleming, and Barry Gibb (Bee Gees + songwriting). The performances were great this year. You should see the ones for Fleming!
I've been waiting on your reaction for this!! I've been listening to this performance for everyday since I've seen it and I'm just so mesmerized with Cynthia's rendition of Alfie. I think she was absolutely perfection from start to finish. I do agree with some parts that are not 100% in sync with the band, but I kinda disagree with the "believe" part being flat, I think it was on point no? I think it was just an odd, slightly rushed transition, but I'd love to hear what you think, you are the expert after all :) Thanks!
Great reaction ! I don´t know for the "flat part" though, it doesn´t sounded flat to me 🤔 i think that´s a dissonance that is wanted ✨️ if you listen closely
After the 50th time watching Cynthia’s version for Dionne, I stumbled upon your channel. You’re an absolute sweetheart and genius for noting upon such slight moments. Shoutout to your puppy Alfie as well, what a perfect name❤
Definitely can't wait for Wicked!!! You should note, Cynthia used Whitney Houston's 1994 arrangement for her tribute which I'm sure touched Dionne tremendously.
Just for your enjoyment, you might want to listen to her "I'm Here" from " The Color Purple" on the Colbert Show. Quite extraordinary. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aRQ-8KzVsTk.htmlsi=3FTgJi2zS9NplyZB
Mam where did you hear a off note?!?!?!?!? I’ve listen to another vocal coach who is extremely intelligent and has a great ear and they did not mention that at all. Like????????
There's always different perspectives when it comes to vocal coaching, some vocal coaches are more critical than others, my favorite part of Georgina is that no matter how great it sounds never holds off when it comes to a critical opinion of a performance, and that's much more appreciated :) PD: A critique on a flat note doesn't necessarily means that the vocal coach is saying it's bad or that the performer doesn't have any talent, we all know Cynthia is EXTREMELY talented ❤
Cynthia often does that "sword swallowing" upward head tilt on some notes (sometimes when belting in the middle register, sometimes when belting higher). Interestingly, she didn't do it at all, I think, on the "I'm Here" G5 belt but does it here on a C#5 belt. Does anyone know what it might do for her? Does it add tension? Does it brighten the sound? What's going on? I'm very curious about this.
She took on quite bit of Whitney's live rendition of this song. But personally not on the same level. I always find Cynthia's sound somewhat flat sounding and does not have that beautiful full rounded tone that some notes deserve. (but hey personal preference ;) )
