This man is a true genius of vocals, a virtuoso with unique talents, in the plural 'cause he has many and all of them amazing. In addition to all that he has a powerful magnetic personality and most importantly, an exceptionally beautiful soul. I sooooo loved your reaction and comments.

This was another very enjoyable reaction and analysis. This is quickly becoming one if not the favorite Dimash performance for me and it invokes a very visceral response in me, just as "Ave Maria" did. I believe this actually was a live performance in that Dimash sang "Ikanaide" live for the Tokyo Jazz Festival Live stream in January of 2021 as it was being recorded. According to several native Japanese speakers, Dimash's pronunciation of the lyrics is nearly flawless. One native speaker, who gave a detailed analysis, stated that he is "expressing Japanese more (better) than Japanese" and that he does not only perfectly pronounce Japanese but "expresses Japanese…with Japanese emotion.". Goro Matsui, who wrote the lyrics to "Ikanaide," posted on his Twitter account that he has never heard a foreigner sing in Japanese in such a beautiful way. Tamaki Kōji composed the music and performed the song in 1989. "Ikanaide" became the title song for the Chinese-Japanese TV series "Farewell, Li Xianglan," filmed that year. It is the story of Yoshiko Yamaguchi, a beloved Chinese-born Japanese actress and singer during World War II who hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan. Following the war, when the Chinese became aware of her Japanese heritage, she was accused of being a spy and sentenced to death by firing squad for treason and collaboration with the Japanese; she had been involved in the production of Japanese propaganda films. Thanks to the intervention of influential friends, she was cleared of all charges but urged to leave China or risk being lynched. She resettled in Japan, where she would continue to enjoy a successful acting career. In the 1950s, she moved her acting career to Hollywood and Broadway under the name Shirley Yamaguchi but returned to Japan in 1959, retiring from acting. She would go on to become a TV presenter and eventually a politician. She did not return to China for nearly 20 years. In 1990, "Ikanaide" was translated into Cantonese and sung by Jacky Cheung using the same melody. Later, the song was rewritten and translated for Jacky Cheung to Mandarin under the title "Late Autumn." This song went on to earn Dimash the "Best Foreign Singer" award during the Golden Melody Award in Hong Kong. Excellent - a fresh Catherine Rose Smith reaction to Dimash. Made my day! There are so many wonderful Dimash songs to choose from. Ave Maria is a fairly recent one, and oddly, this is the only song Dimash has presented (so far as I am aware) which is entirely within a soprano's range. *Entirely.* I'm hoping to hear some great sopranos cover it - how different will it sound, compared to the best countertenor ever? Interesting question! But we'll be grateful for almost anything you can find... Except for clips from CBS' 'World's Best' show, which absolutely butchered Dimash's songs through cruel, vicious editing. Far better versions exist elsewhere. If you're in a mood to diverge, I will recommend Home Free's Man of 'Constant Sorrow,' and Lara Fabian's 'Je Suis Malade.' Rich pickings for vocal techniques in both songs. The first is for funsies, but for the second, have tissues handy, it's a tear-jerker. Cheers!

Even though this is in a studio this performance was live streamed to the Tokyo Jazz Festival November 2021, but I think Dimash chose different pictures (video) for this video than those that were live streamed. This was the first time Dimash sang in Japanese (which was perfect, apparently)!

I also recommend reactions to Dimash's songs - 'Stranger', 'Adagio', a version of the vocalization of the song 'Know' (concert in Kyiv 2020), compare it with the same song with the words, also 'Daybreak` (late version, in black and white clothes ), 'Olympico' (filmed with a fan camera, he's in close-up there), 'The show must go on', 'Crown', 'Samaltau'.
