This was a very early solo for Naya, as I recall; possibly even the first time. I remember watching this number and thinking, "Oh, so that's what Santana sounds like."

Santana’s first song on the show was like a virgin, although she also sang in the album version of express yourself (both are 1x15). She gets her first duet in 1x18 with Mercedes, the boy is mine. Bad romance is 1x20.

This cover is one of my favorite covers from Season 1. My favorite part is Naya's singing in this cover. At this point in Glee, Santana hadn't sung much yet so it really was a pleasant surprise to have her get a solo within a group performance and also provide notable background vocals. She really was such a versatile singer. In my opinion she was the most versatile singer in the cast I could easily name my 10 favorite covers Naya was a part of on Glee and the covers would uniquely be in at least 5 genres because she was always changing her vocals (singing in a lower register, singing in a higher register, singing with her natural raspiness, etc) which would always sound great on whichever song she was singing no matter the genre of music. Absolutely love the studio version of this cover (Naya sings more in that version which includes her singing some lyrics in French). Sometimes good/great vocal moments from the Studio Versions of the covers from Glee weren't heard/shown in the TV version of the covers because the songs/performances were edited for time.

Yea this was like the first time we had ever heard Santana sing on the show and everyone was blown away by her talent! Her voice became my favorite on the show after this performance 🥰

I think they outfits are like tributes to what gaga has worn. So not all look exactly like the outfits she wears. Rachel's is inspired by the Kermit the frog outfit. All the outfits are killer. Loved all the butterflies

Santana: The Glee Wiki says "the lace outfit she was seen in leaving a hotel", but I think it's the outfit she wore at the MAC Viva Glam launch, even has the headpiece (although Santana's is much smaller). Mercedes: Inspired by the bodysuit she performed at the 2010 Grammys in. Her hair is Lady Gaga's iconic "hairbow" style.

I love it when they mix Chris (Kurt) in with the girls and this, I think, is the first time. He adds a really distinctive tone to group numbers like this. One of my favourites is Constant Craving with Naya and Idina Menzel, which I prefer to all of Idina's duets with Lea. Also fun fact, they had a lot of problems with Jenna's bubble dress as it squeaked when she moved and the balls sometimes fell off. Oh and Chris' shoes had to be custom made.

One thing that sprang to mind while watch that I thought you should know, is that you can't go of who there showing on camera to trying figure out who's who's mainly singing. Which is super annoying but you get to distinguish between their voices pretty well. I seem to remember noticing it with Naya alot in empire state of mind, living on a prayer and this song where she would be singing the main vocals through the song and they would focus on Rachel or others doing the Adlib or smaller parts

The outfits: - Santana: The lace outfit Gaga was seen in leaving a hotel. - Quinn: Grammy's 2010 Red Carpet Dress. - Brittany: The Lobster Hat was wore to Mr. Chow Restaurant. - Kurt: The Silver Sequinned look wore in Bad Romance. - Rachel: The Kermit Dress (but in the concert performance she wore her silver and black dress, which is, in the episode, made by Shelby Corcoran). - Tina: The Bubble Dress. - Mercedes: Inspired by the body suit Gaga performed at the 2010 Grammys in. Her hair is Lady Gaga's "hairbow" style. - Mike (concert tour, but not in Theatricality): The red lace dress Gaga wore at the 2010 VMAs and in Bad Romance (was only used during the concert performances in which Harry replaced Amber).

This performance is less risque than the roar video because it took place in season one or two and they were still establishing. The episode with roar actually quite prominently features Lady gaga again, in fact, its called Katie or gaga I believe, and it takes much bigger risks

The beanie baby dress was suppose to be the kermit dress but her dads couldn't sew so later in the episode it started to fall apart and her birth mom helped her make a new outfit
