Steve Perry was just named the best singer of all time by billboard His fans came out by droves and he won by over 67% of the votes We all know he’s a great singer because we can hear his songs But to think of this man, his beautiful lyrics he has wrote the beautiful music he has composed, but most importantly, he is, and always will be THE VOICE 💙🎤🎶

This guitar solo part was one of my earliest copying of rock songs except the fact that I had no idea how to sound like his guitar without the proper equipment back in the early 80s and I went to their concert at the Osaka Castle Concert Hall once in 1981, I believe, to check how he does it live but it was too fast and I could not figure out how the melody should be performed live. My passion is still there though, thanks Neal.

This is one of your best Vocal Coach reactions, to Steve Perry nonetheless, one of my favorite singers ever. If I remember correctly, he did not quit Journey the 2nd time. He was fired by Neal Schon because they did not want to wait for his surgery while having a tour already planned, and it's a move I never forgave Neal for. I lost respect for Journey ever since they did that to Steve. You should also check out Marillion, and if you want me to suggest some titles "Easter", "Estonia", "Beautiful", "Ocean Cloud", Season's End", "The space"....I can send more if needed....I LOVE Steve Hogarth, what a great singer/songwriter and visual stage performer.

Steve Perry - The Voice, Neal Schon - the real driving force of the music and his solo work is great compliment to Steve's vocals, Ross Valory - steady anchor, yet carries the music through the changes without being obtrusive, Jonathan Cain - great writer with perfect keyboard over/under lays. Steve Smith - one of the finest drummers in the business with a good dose of jazz. All members have satisfying backing vocals to Stev's excellent voicing. I’m case someone hasn’t already said, Schon and Rolie didn’t want Steve Perry in the band. They wanted a screamer, like Robert Plant, and the singer Perry ended up replacing Robert Fleischman. The band’s manager Herbie Herbert forced them to take Perry because they needed to get on the radio with their fourth album (first with Perry) or they would be dropped. The first song Schon and Perry wrote together, Patiently, came together in 15 minutes, and from then on everyone saw the light, that this was the new Journey. To be clear, they recognized the talent, Perry just didn’t fit their vision of Journey, until they wrote together.

Steve Perry has often said its the single hardest Journey song to sing, yet he sounds so much better on it live than he did in the studio recording! Steve Perry is without a doubt the best vocalist in the history of music! His ability to do the things vocally that he does is so amazing. You feel every word he sings in your soul. He touches every emotion in your body all at one time. He is unmatched! Beth if you want to check out his Traces album listen to Sun Shines Gray , we’re still here, call on me, could we be something again. The whole album is great. Steve Perry is one of the all time greats, right up there with Freddie and Dio. Btw, this was their classic and best known lineup, but not the original. Guitarist Neal Schon and bassist Ross Valroy, from this lineup, were founding members, but the original lineup was rounded out by vocalist and keyboardist Greg Rollie, rhythm guitarist George Tickner and drummer Aynsley Dunbar. Perry was brought in on their fourth album, Infinity, when they decided that they wanted a stronger lead vocalist.

Oh boy! I saw them on this tour in May of 1982 for the Escape album. This isn't the original lineup. Journey formed in the early seventies with Gregg Rolle on keyboards, Neal Schon on guitar (after they left Santana), Ross Valory on bass and Ainsley Dunbar on drums. Steve joined in '74/'75, Steve Smith took over on drums. Gregg Rolle left after the Departure album, Jonathan Cain came on playing guitar and keyboards. He and Steve shared a lot of the songwriting through the eighties.
