Hello jennifer. I think that you will be amazed by her interpretation of caruso. She can sing in something like 12 languages, and for many people, Caruso and Adagio are two of the greatest perdormances by a singer !
To the people saying she should have used the lyrics and that that’s the only way to appreciate the performance.. wow.. Imagine feeling entitled to decide how other people experience music. This is a vocal analysis, and lyrics quite frankly don’t matter in this context. Just because *you* need them to feel it doesn’t mean that’s true for everyone else. Stop diminishing other people’s experiences just cause they don’t match yours. Acting that entitled seems stressful, so I hope y’all feel better soon.
Lara Fabian; one of the best female singer and performers ever. She lives every word of the song and makes you feel it. Perfect in multiple languages. Her live performances are master pieces; Adagio, Caruso, Broken Vow and many more. Can't wait for this reaction.
Actually in terms of pure on stage performance nobody has the whole package like Lara... she's the ultimate live performer... there has never been another singer that can produce the feelings of the lyrics so well with her whole being (body, face expression and voice) like Lara Fabian does... Celine Dion has the voice of Lara but doesn't even come close to her emotional investment in a song... also, most of today's stars focus too much on vocal gymnastics (insane and completely unnecessary vocal runs) and really fail when it comes to the meaning of the song they sing... let me give you a quick example... Christina Aguilera has probably the most insane voice I've ever heard in my life... but the only song she actually stops to just sing the song and deliver the meaning as it should be is "hurt"... and what a surprise... it's her most famous and loved song... People enjoy hearing insane vocal runs just to be impressed by them... but we don't listen to music to hear vocal runs... we do it to listen to someone deliver emotion to us... depending on the kind of song of course... not all songs should be like Lara's songs or we'd all have committed suicide by now... lol
@@sportschool3537 Applause. I have no respect for vocal runs unless they are perfectly placed and used sparingly. Immediate exit from my audiition if you think that's a good idea.... and reasonably so since you have essentially told me you don't have a clue what you are supposed to be doing. See above for possibly the most complete and perfect example of what you are supposed to be doing X 10 billion. This performance is perfectly understated and utterly majestic. What a goddess.
I recommend to rewatch the song in a version with English subtitles and you will understand her choices of vocal registers at certain parts of the song. Also, everyone gets emotional from the combination of lyrics and performance.
Lara is a lyric Soprano who has sung in 12 languages, 4 of which she is fluent in ! Besides the power in her voice, every syllable of every word, in every sentence, of every lyric (no matter which language) is clear and precise in every song !.Lara is the only singer on planet earth to sing from her soul to our soul. Top vocaliste in the world...
Yes! You do need to know the lyrics!!! Without them, there is nothing for you to review, because every catch in her voice, every audible breath, every gesture, body position and facial expression tell the story and comprise the phenomenon that is this performance of a lifetime. So, yes, you do need to know the lyrics!
Have been watching and listening to Lara for many years. She is such a beautiful woman and wow what a voice, simply breathtaking. Such an emotional rendition. I don’t speak French but don’t need too. French is such a beautiful language when sung. I have watched the version with English subtitles so I understand, now, the meaning of the song. Glad you have discovered this amazing singer, enjoy, I know I will. ❤️🤘🇦🇺
Damn...you cut the performance off short twice! Lara is standing there with a well deserved standing ovation and it took what felt like forever to pull herself out of the song! This kind of commitment that Lara shows with everything that she performs would, I imagine, be something worthwhile for a student to try to emulate. Her live performances are always best to watch
Lara Fabian introduced to unknown listeners is a pleasure to the watching RU-vid’s .. and I‘m honest, I loved your reaction. It‘s fascinating to see show involved you get, although you can explain what is happening. For me Lara Fabian is one of the greatest singers of all time .. and she is still singing. Thorsten from Germany
@@JenniferGlatzhofer I hope you've watched it again - a version with English subtitles - you'd probably be in tears by the end. (which you didn't see!)
Hi, Jennifer. I want to add my voice to the fact that we will appreciate it even more when reactors actual finish the videos being reacted to. Important additional issues may arise when we do finish the video. The matters you raised here, obviously are all important and it's being noted. A lovely reaction. What a great performance from my Queen of vocalists.
Lara is Dimash's older musical sister, and has worked with Igor for many years. They have performed together at Igor's Birthday bash as a trio with Aida Garifullina.
This is a story of a woman consumed by her love for a man who left her. Je suis malade by Lara Fabian is so beautiful and, at the same time, painful to watch. Lara Fabian is such a story teller. I have watched this song countless times throughout the years, and she kills me every time. Thank you for doing a React video of this song.. Loved, Loved your analysis.
This is one of the most magical performances I have seen....it is as though Lara is singing as she thinks...hearing the words of her heart for the first time, putting this pain out into the world...it is amazing. I may not have expressed my self very well...but it was magical. Jennifer...your reactions and analysis were fantastic, intelligent and eloquent as ever...with a beautiful sense of wonderment, as you watched and were truly touched. Thank you, again.
Thank you for reacting to this, and yes, you should react to many of her masterpieces. And make sure that you react to her live performances. You won’t regret it. Her live performances are genuinely soul-touching, and she should be studied by anybody striving to be an Exquisite Singer, performer, singer-songwriter, and so on. Last but not least, she is a beautiful human being and a role model for a new generation of artists, such as Dimash and others. Thanks again! We love you, #LaraFabian 💛💚💙🇧🇷
I never heard of Lara Fabian before three or four years ago when late one night surfing RU-vid - it has been my loss! In my opinion she is an Artist........ by that i mean she paints with her voice, her phrasing, and with a voice that never sounds brash or trill or forced - her tone is warm and always pitch-perfect ; on top of that she has the unique ability to allow her audience to experience the emotion of the song writer's intent. as for me3, i have no musical talent ( I wear earplugs in the shower in case I burst into song ) but Lara holds my hand and leads me into music netter than any other performer in my life. As to language....... I speak but ! and not well at that - when Lara sings she sings from her heart...........and my heart hears !
Lara has been singing for many years and has many fans all over the world, except the USA where almost everything that is not American is considered garbage and is not just her case. Lara speaks fluent French, English, Italian, Spanish, Belgian, if I'm not mistaken she also speaks German and obviously has songs and sings in all these languages. She is also a composer, having enough pieces written by her. As for the relationship with Dimash, she was a model, an example for him but from my point of view, without minimizing his vocal qualities, if you compare the two with the world of cars. Dimash is a high-performance car but full of bling bling. Lara is a Rolls Royce.
Jennifer, this can't be fully appreciated by English-speaking people without the subtitles. it is just too deep to be guessing at what it might be saying . . . Cheers.
You can found this song with English subtitle. Lara sing in French, Italian, Spanish.... But every time you can watch her vidéo with English subtitle. For this song je suis malade the lyrics are great too.
Honestly, I recommend watching it without the subs the first time around…it’s mesmerizing even without knowing what she is saying. A rewatch with the lyrics adds even more.
I see a lot of comments that you need the subtitles, but you get it. You have captured the emotion she is presenting and that is what counts. It's possible that the words get in the way (to repeat a phrase.) This song does not need to be understood, or even heard. It NEEDS to penetrate your soul. Amazingly, there is a vid on the net of Lara doing this song two weeks ago in Bucharest, and she still has great movement on her fastball. (little baseball lingo)
Very happy you got to experience this amazing performance. But it seriously should be forbidden to watch Je Suis Malade without lyrics. So hauntingly beautiful and important for the message. Do yourself a FAVOR and watch it again by yourself with lyrics/subs (there's a version v. Fra+Eng subs).
I hope you realise that that croak was intentional - just like audible breathing in the microphone, sometimes such 'flaws' can be added as a a stylistic choice. :) Also, did you watch the last 30 seconds of that video? The song itself ended where you stopped the video, but in the last part you can see how Lara recovers from her performance. That said, for more Lara Fabian I would recommend "Broken Vow". For something different, I would recommend Lord of the Lost - "My Better Me". Officially a lyric video, but you do see Chris Harms singing throughout.
Absolutely! It leads into the line about how all the whiskies taste the same… completely intentional break in the voice to communicate utter frustration
Malade or Adagio ? Probably Caruso by Lucio Dalla about famous italian opera singer , she speek italian and she sing so well that singing become almost acting . Yes we can see some of her colors in Dimash too .
Lara is the ultimate performance artist ! She is s Belgian superstar now residing in Canada ! She puts her heart and soul into every performance ! I would her recommend her rendition of "Caruso " ! Her singing with Dimash and Aida Garifulina in their rendition of" Ti Amo Cosi " with Igor Krutoy was fantastic to see them interconnect with each other ! Their voices blend so well together ! ! Both are fabulous and warrant your reaction ! Thank you again for reacting to one of my favourite artists ! You're analysis as always was informative and helpful ! If you noticed Lara at the end of the song was emotionally drained and stayed that way for a long time ! Jennifer thank you for your heartfelt comments and keep posting 👍🤗🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️
Quelle jolie langue et quelle voix !!! Ça me rend fière d'être française. Cette chanson est incroyable. Lara est incroyable. Ça prend aux tripes. Merci Lara pour cette magnifique interprétation ❤️
Hi, you should see the version with lyrics. The moment her voice seem to be broken (8.31 on you video), she's talking about th fact that she drinks every night to be able to pretend she's happy when her friends are there.
Jennifer, this performance was from around the turn of the Century and she was recognized as truly one of the greatest singers in the world. But, things were different then and Lara never received the acclaim she so deserved. Yes, you can see why Dimash was so very impressed with her as a very young man and they are good friends today. Lara still sings and recently was a judge on France's, The Voice. I know you couldn't wait to hear this alone in private. Find a video with the translation on the screen. People will be sending you more suggestions of what to hear from her. And, I guarantee, you will love all of them.
Jen, I love you, but how can dispense with the lyrics of the song, discuss that she's living the story, and then cut the performance off, before you can witness her transition back out of the character's experience? I can't even tell you how many times I've seen reactors cut this performance short, and it's so worth witnessing.😏✌
You are 100% correct!! ALL OF A PERFORMANCE...is not just orchestra or singing...the intro, to the final finish from the performer..is the performance!! And this VID...did not share.. the entire " performance " that I Came here for!!! (((( shakes head in disappointment)))) N walks away, never to return.......... 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐺🧙♂️👋!
Jennifer you should react to a song Lara wrote that is called Llora, amazingly perfect, very important that you do it, the story will make you cry and the melody is perfect
Lara Fabian is not just a wonderful singer, but also a wonderful songwriter and lyricist. All three skills came into play in Je Suis Malade. You can find English subtitles on various versions of this song, and they're worth digesting. Like Dimash, she has collaborated with Igor Krutoy. In 'Te Amo Cosi,' Lara teamed up with Dimash and opera singer Aida Garifullina at Krutoy's birthday concert a couple of years ago. There are skaters. Who doesn't like skaters?
"Je suis malade" has been written by Serge Lama and composed by Alice Dona in the early 70's (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HDbpZpm9j9c.html&ab_channel=InaChansons)
Dear Jennifer, your comments are timely. I adore you, in two weeks you reacted to two of my favorites, LARA FABIAN AND 4TH IMPACT. I love your thoughts on the vocal qualities of those you analyze. Please keep reacting to 4th Impact and Lara Fabian and you won't be disappointed with the quality of their performances. Thank you from Montreal. P.S. A masterpiece, ADAGIO LIVE This is something you shouldn't miss.
That performance is pure gold :) My favorite moment is when she talks about being like a dead bird and drags her thumb across her throat, *brrr*, you can feel it!
You should react to more Lara songs! In Italian you can find Caruso from that same concert, Adagio / broken vow / you’re not from here are amazing as well, papa can you see me is great too!
Great reaction to such an amazing performance! She is incredible and sings with so much emotion, feeling and passion. I recommend that you react to You're not from here, Caruso, Broken Vow, Adagio and Perdere l'amore. They are all amazing like all her songs! Greetings from London 😀
First I was a bit put off by the fact that your video was not with subtitles. But all together, I find your comments are sharp, enlightning and do justice to the wole performance. Congrats.
Excelente .Que mejor que reaccionar a la que fue y es una poderosa inspiración para el increíble Dimash. Lara es tan emocionante e increíble con una gran pasión al interpretar como él. Saludos desde Chile.
history on the song : Je suis Malade by Serge Lama! A song inspired by his life As you can imagine, it all started with a heartbreak. In 1969, Serge Lama fell in love with Michèle Potier but their romance could not be revealed to the public. Indeed, the two lovers are married. Then, his beloved leaves to Morocco to follow his career. Serge is devastated. He has just lost the love of his life. During a dinner with his friend and composer Alice Dona, the singer confides his pain. He is not well, he has pain from the separation, he is sick. This rehearsal during the dinner of "Je suis malade" is going to give the inspiration to her friend once back at home. She composes in the night what she thinks is a hit. The next day she contacts Serge Lama. However, he is away on tour and will only be back in Paris in September. This does not matter to Alice Dona who will wait for his return. Indeed, she is convinced that the song will be a hit. Once back, Serge goes to her house to listen to the music. He is under the spell and without a word he writes the lyrics. A strong song about the despair of a man who no longer has the woman he loves at his side.
Jennifer thank you for such a beautiful review--Lara Fabian is so great and this song is just as amazing as she is--- You broke it down so that even I can understand some of the more technical aspects---great job!!!!
So many people asking for lyric translation, could be added in the captions. But I think a link to a subtitled version is more helpful. And DO watch every single version of this she ever did. They're all.very different. She is reinventing it on every tour.
Je suis malade (song) The real story of the song When the song was written, Lara Fabian was only 3 years old. Je suis malade is a song by Serge Lama, released in 1973 as a single and on the album Je suis malade. Written by Serge Lama on a music composed by Alice Dona, the song became the most emblematic title of the repertoire of Serge Lama who regularly takes it on stage 3. History The song Je suis malade was inspired by a real heartbreak of Serge Lama, the story of a long secret relationship. In 1969, the singer met Michèle Potier in Chamonix. Love was a certainty, but neither of them was free: he had married Daisy Brun, his press agent, in 1968, and she was married and had a son. They love each other in secret for several years and promise to regain their freedom, but Michèle hesitates and finally flees him and settles in Morocco for professional reasons. Lama is desperate, he wants to put words on his pain without succeeding, until the day he confides in his friend Alice Dona: "this story hurts me, it makes me sick. Back home, at the piano, Alice Dona, composes in a few hours a melody [...], that very quickly, she makes the singer listen. It was a revelation and Serge Lama wrote almost the entire text in one go. He will say later "The 80% of the song I wrote in 20 minutes, it's almost a shame [...] it came out of my heart so much that I [...] immediately felt that this song had something that the others didn't have". However, nothing is done. His record company Philips does not believe in the song and to impose it Lama threatens to leave if he is refused to record it3. He wins his case and soon Je suis malade is released as a single. Unfortunately, the radio programmers prefer the B side, the lively and cheerful song Les P'tites Femmes de Pigalle which becomes a hit6. At every opportunity, however, Lama sings Je suis malade, on television, on stage [...], recognition will come, not (in this period), through him, but from a cover by Dalida very touched by the subject of the song and whose inspired and desperate interpretation will seduce the public. After that, Serge Lama's popularity was turned upside down and he definitely became a recognized and popular singer-songwriter4. Many years later, the artist confides: "An LP of Serge Lama at the time it was worth 4000-5000 albums [...] But after Les Ballons rougesNote 1 it is 1 million4." Recognition came for the creator of Je suis malade, in 1974, when one evening on the stage of the Olympia in Paris, Serge Lama completed the song by interpreting it without a microphone a cappella in front of an audience conquered by a triumph. Another happiness, the return of Michele, free and together, they give birth to a boy named Frederic in 1981 and marry ten years later8. Michèle died in 2016 at 71 years, victim of a stroke9. Her death gives the song another dimension, Lama who has not given up singing it on stage says: "Every night when this song comes, I know it is an obstacle that must be jumped [...], it usually takes me a minute to recover [...], this song deserves to be given everything". Words on behalf of the father Je suis malade is doubly autobiographical for the singer-songwriter who includes in this story of desperate love feelings from his childhood. The anger, the suffering that Serge Lama expresses with the verses "I am sick as when my mother went out in the evening, And that she left me alone with my despair" or "I am like an orphan in a dormitory". These words to the attention of his lover to whom he reproaches his decline, it is in fact to his mother that he addresses them, casting himself in the skin of his father, formerly a singer of operetta in search of success, who, pushed by his wife, gave up his career [...]. This father to whom Lama "lends his voice" when he claims: "You deprived me of all my songs, You emptied me of all my words, Yet I had talent before your skin. This period of his childhood, Lama has already evoked it in the song half sweet and half bitter Le temps de la rengaine (in 1968 it opens the album D'aventures en aventures): "[...] Mama dreamed that she had a real kitchen, While Daddy was barking at the Capucines, It was a nice time that this time [...], One day daddy sold margarine, So that mommy could sing in her kitchen, It was a hard time that time, I have tears in my eyes when I think of all that". I understand the want to make the video as brief as possible, but the moments following the last note say so much about all sung before that it's a pity you missed that, as well as most people I've seen react to this. She was so deep into the character that even after the very long applause she was still spellbound, and overwhelmed with emotion. Like a prayer, the silence following every song, truly performed, should be held sacred.
Beautiful performance from Lara; nice top couldn't determine if a dress or blouse, but this color suits you and is not a turtle neck lol. Love your technical analysis on what's going on vocally.🇫🇷 in honor of the song!
