The beginning absolutely has some tuning. He has great vocal range but the beginning absolutely has something going on. And yes, I have been listening to Jack Black for over 20 years.

The intro is tuned down for his Bowser voice. He's still amazing!

I have to disagree, that sounds pitched down to me... I don't doubt he could hit the same notes naturally or put on a bit of a deeper voice... In fact, I think he might be going a bit lower in pitch than normal as well... But yeah, that does not sound natural to me... It sounds more like pitch shifting than boosting the bass frequencies too... Doesn't seem like they used chorus or reverb... It's like when people used to slow down recordings to make them sound deeper... Plus sometimes you get what sounds a bit like autotune distortion... It doesn't sound clean... I doubt he needs autotune in general, I expect that they just wanted a deeper voice for Bowser... Although I wish for this video they had just gone natural with it. I expect it would sound even better.

​@KitsyX if that's pitched down then he must use that technique in most of his music because he literally just sounds like he does in all his Tenacious D songs when he goes low in those to me.

I was going to basically type all this so thanks. Anyone who thinks this is pitched down or has a bunch of vocal effects on it needs to really listen to more Jack Black. This is just how good he is.

@@jasonlebeau1288 He was pitched down for the Bowser voice-acting, and this song is from the movie. I listen to Tenacious D a lot, and you can tell by the tone in the beginning of the song that it is pitched down. The first line he speaks in the video is a give-away. Not saying he can't hit those notes, but its definitely pitch-adjusted.

As someone who has listened to way too much tenacious d and Jack black he is 100% pitched down. He’s never even come close to hitting notes that low before.
