On January 15, 2018 Delores O'Rierdon passed in Britain. She was in bathtub when this happened. Delores, was so talented. Such a sad loss to society. Wrote music on all her own. I think of Delores everyday. At her funeral, I believe Bono and or his wife were presant. (funeral). RIP Delores You will always Linger with me.✌🙏

The voices and songs of Delores O'Rirordan and Enya (and a few by Sinead O'Connor) helped me cope with the stresses of combat. I served for more than 60 months (5 years) in combat, during 4 deployments. To unwind, in particular when I could not sleep, I would seek solace in the powerful voices of those magnificent vocal artists! So too when I was fighting forest fires. I remember being in the Methow Valley in the northern Cascade Mountains; it seemed the World was ON FIRE from Horizon to Horizon in the pre-dawn darkness! Now I am retired from my service and their voices and songs still bring me peace. I hope you too are able to find solace from music, Delores O'Rirordan in particular.

This song is credited by many Irish and Brits for helping to stop the guerrilla terrorist war between the Catholics and the Protestants in Northern Ireland. All were holding grudges about their relatives being murdered by both factions. As The Cranberries explain, it all started more than 100 years ago. It was overdue that both sides forgave each other and moved on from the violence and murder. Love the Cranberries!

@northern_lights Did you people learn nothing in History class in school. In a way kind of seems opposite to come out ye black and tans. But That's part and parcel of being Irish. Many of us still haven't forgiven people in the UK for the countless centuries of suffering inflicted on us. Also The pogues, to hell or to connacht about the cromwellian dictatorship is brushed under the carpet. That is part of why we chose to rise up against the english in the first place. We had had enough, and thence was ooh ah up the ra. But luckily now for the most part things are settled here. Pity she left so soon, Could have done with more gems like this one.

So pure medical grade stuff they knew the doses of. Lots of guys getting the street hookups die cuz of the crappy quality of drugs. Also it appears that a lot of rap "singers" keep doing shit crap drugs even when they are rich. I mean instead of cocaine like the big rock stars, they chug cough syrup and 7 up and or do crack etc

Very emotional, i used to cover this band when i was 16 with my friends at high school in Mexico. I always admired her strength. I live in Limerick now, she is a local and national hero, and i see the rest of the band members on a daily basis just walking around, i constantly have to fight the need to approach them hehe. I saw Dolores very briefly about 2 years ago just months before her passing, at the airport whilst waiting for my friend who came to visit me from Mexico, she was such a cool relaxed person, no fuss just passing by. I froze couldn’t approach her, i regret that completely.

I first heard this song about a decade ago in a history class. My teacher was a fan and to accompany a lesson about the relevant conflict in Ireland, he played this song. It really stuck with me. Probably helped me pass the test on the subject. I'd only learned of her death recently, but it really changed how I react when hearing this song. I don't like it any less, but an extra element of sorrow that wasn't expressed in that way before just permeates throughout it. I also found the cover that Bad Wolves made of this after learning of her death and I started crying listening to it since they said she'd intended to provide some form of performance as part of it, but died that very day. I was kind of old school technologically, at the time, but when this came out, they appeared on Saturday Night Live. The TV I owned had an auxiliary set up and my stereo had an auxiliary set up, so I connected the two with patch chords. When they performed Zombie, I was able to record the SNL performance onto cassette tape. I had that for quite awhile. I bet not too many people had a cassette recording of that live performance. She just died way too young, and this was, definitely one of the most unique songs in rock. I don’t know if it can ever be recreated. That vocal technique is not completely unique, but it is hard to do, and she mastered it. I knew there was some reason that her death is extra memorable to me, and researching, I saw that she died the day before my birthday. I wish she wasn’t gone, but, that day of her death is an important day in the US. It is the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She picked a day that millions will remember. Just another reason to remember a talented singer.

Thank you for your reactions on this song. The Cranberries as you know it was one of the most popular bands of the '90s. Dolores' talent was so incredible. She left us much too soon.

Dolores voice certainly was unique. Sometimes she sounds off key and out of tune but it’s as if that’s how it supposed to sound. One of the best bands ever

She’s singing in a minor key. It sounds more somber, and a little “off”.

I'm American, but my paternal grandparents were from County Kilkenny. I remember many years ago seeing the film The Untouchables with Sean Connery. They kept calling him "that Irish cop" and I'm thinking that's not an Irish accent. Apparently Sean does one accent, Scottish.

The greatest female singer to come out of the 90's hands down. I remember coming home from Desert Storm and hearing this song and immediately going out and buying thr cd her voice was absolutely beautiful/amazing and unique and I fell in love with it right off. Gone way too soon. Miss you loads Dolores Rest in Peace, we lost another beautiful voice, but heaven gained one more. Thank you for the wonderful and incredible body of music you left for us to enjoy💔

I loved this video, I've been fascinated with the way Dolores sang and have been trying to perfect a little bit of her yodle in my vocal style. So sad, RIP Dolores, a true artist gone too soon. Dolores O'riordan one of the most iconic voices in the world of music. The way she used to sing with a saddly sound effect and breaking her tones (as a yodel) in one phrase, an unusual way to express emotions singing with sadness that's called in Ireland " keening". That made her become at the top of the rock and roll music world 🤘 She was and will be in our hearts with her beautiful music 💚 Thanks a lot for presenting this artist ❤ Greeting from Chile ⚪🔵🔴

The thing she do when she sings is built around a yodel style you find in their local folk music. She tweaked after mastered it and made it a The Cranberries trademark. Many have tired to cover her and tried to get that style but I think all have failed. Her voice, techniuqe are pretty unigue,

I randomly found this vid in my RU-vid recommended, and I was actually compelled to watch it, unlike most of what RU-vid recommends. I finally figured out the yodel (with my male vocal chords) after struggling for years to figure out this song. It was your analysis of it as typical metal scream. Zoh-um-bae (sharp inhale) Eh. (s.i.) Eh. (s.i.) Eh. (s.i.) She's basically hyperventilating back and forth to make the Irish yodel mid lyric. A half-note of a metal scream, if you prefer. Thank you so much for accidentally teaching me something I've been dying to learn. The algorithm did some good work today.

A few to consider: Natalie Merchant: 'This House is on Fire' (live in Germany 2002) or 'Noah's Dove' (10000 Maniacs, MTV Unplugged 1993). Interesting how her voice changed in those 9 years. Paul Rodgers: (with Free, 'Be My Friend' live on Beat Club, Germany 1970) or 'Bad Company (recent live videos, nearly 50 years later!). Interesting to compare how his voice has held up, but also changed. Rhiannon Giddens: 'At The Purchaser's Option' (live) Sandy Denny :(with Fotheringay 'Nothing More', Beat Club, Germany 1970) Heather Nova: 'Island' (eg live at Lorely, Germany 1996) Levellers: 'Maid of the River' (live in Blackpool 1996)
