So...Tara vocal points were right...
@soldierdrumchannel5710
@soldierdrumchannel5710 4 года назад
Yeah Tara’s vocal points on some of these were a misunderstanding of what yebba was trying to do. For instance, when she said “that was a little rough“ on one of Abbey’s distortions. Some of those may have been Abbey losing control; but it sounds more like a conscious choice to me. The choice to make some notes more valuable than others, thereby consequently actually Detuning some of them and favor The guttural quality of the notes itself

The point is to understand what she’s doing. Yebba is highly technical, she knows exactly what to do to get every specific sound in her performances. It’s how she can switch between the breathy, raspy tone and that full, resonant sound, and the high head voice. Obviously the emotion is more important with this song, but to say there is no point in finding out what’s happening, as if it’s all just subconcious is wrong

I think when you work with vocals as a profession, you can't help but focus on the technical aspects of performances. Which is what she's here to do anyway, so in that sense Tara did her job well. However, this is one of those moments where you should just sit back with earphones on and listen to the whole thing without any stops. It's not about how well she did her runs, the pace of her vibrato or whether she's singing too high or low for her range. It's about the emotion she conveys and only that. At least it is for me. Which was the reason I was very hesitant to watch this reaction, cause the performance is perfection in my eyes.

I agree with you. Yebba's whole thing is that she grew up singing in church and feels music which totally shows in the way she sings. The cracks and the rough parts of the song are what made it for me and it's not about sounding perfect all the time. Technique is important but it is also important to just sing and enjoy yourself, Yebba is clearly in the moment and telling a story, I think Tara completely missed the sentiment of the song. Also, commenting on Yebba's clothes and saying how unflattering her top is was a low blow, it's about the singing not appearances.

lmao this aint opera. she does stuff that isn't stylistic that just isn't right...like if you drop your chin while singing low you crush your larynx and you can't sing low nearly as well...she would only sound better with a couple corrections. think she's just supposed to teach people how to sing incorrectly because you like this video? what a ridiculous concept. if she said it was bad or something i'd be with you but she just made note of a couple things that she could have done that would have cost her voice far less to do what she wants...that's what learning to sing correctly is...it's not singing super straight and boring (though i've had to do that once or twice when i was the only singer in a band and had 3 sets to get through...r.i.p) it's about managing your voice the best you can...there is no reason to drop your chin while signing low...you're just going to muffle the sound...there is no stylistic benefit. why in the world should you not mention this? i do some things that cost a lot in a voice...like raspy shouts similar to bring me the horizon or other modern heavy metal groups...but there is a way to do it that's wayyyy better...would i complain "bro this ain't opera" if someone taught me the correct way to scream? of course not...that's what you're doing. besides maybe her critique on the really big vibrato on the line "look me in the eye" and the wardrobe comment everything was ways to do what she was doing with the exact same effect only healthier. air for example is the enemy of the vocal cords...you need support and vocal cord closure or you're going to wreck your voice singing like this all the time. air rushing through your cords dries out the mucosal membranes and that's bad...suddenly your falsetto will break...you won't be able to get into head voice...all kind of problems. does that mean this isn't a great performance? no of course not. but if you saw a powerlifter lifting a fuck ton of weight with kinda bad form does that mean you should teach that form? no...yeah maybe some people can pull it off and maybe they won't even get hurt like other people...but this is a vocal coach...she's not going to teach you to sing in ways that will hurt you and you're wrong if you want her too.

I agree with some of your critiques, but not a lot of it. You're talking about a live performance. Something that can't always be emulated to a perfect sound. Her emotions played a huge part in this song. A lot of these critiques you were giving failed to mention the emotion that she was feeling herself. Emotion is a major part to how someone sings a song. For that, I dislike your video. Every time you brought up emotion, you claimed she was "trying to get ME to feel her emotion" instead of "she has some deep emotions showing through this song" which is a huge difference. She isn't trying to get YOU to feel it, these are HER emotions, and each word she sings has a deep threaded meaning to it, which you failed to see. It's almost as if you're saying she has no reason to feel the way she does. Imagine you being hurt really bad, maybe a breakup, and then singing a song that brings back hurt or pain. Would you agree that YOUR voice would also not be at its prime? I agree with the lower tones critique, but the others, you failed to acknowledge her pain! Also, you're a vocal coach - Stop critiquing her wardrobe choices. It's RUDE! and it's not your place!

I disagree with some critic. Your technical position all make sense and are valid but this kind of artist and performance is not about sounding pretty or perfect from a technical POV. This is a raw, bluesy, soulful release that is full of emotion and grit. Every note wasn't meant to be perfected, although from her take on this song you can tell she is very capable. Her voice is a masterpiece. I can hear the soulful church roots in it, feel the emotion but she also is a gifted vocalist who has range that not many artists have or tap into in today's music scene. The only part I noticed was when she was doing her runs towards the end and fell a little flat on a note but the other choices she made were so true to the heartache of the song and a true example of putting pain into melodic form through vocals. She's an undeniable talent and one of my absolute favs now that I've heard some of her work. Her other song Evergreen is gorgeous too!

This is a vocal coach stand point not a reaction video, so of course she's going to get technical on the vocals. But even then she never devalued the emotion of the song. If the vocal critique (not that I think Abbey will watch it) would help the vocalist then all the better for her
@jazzyjakeen9469
@jazzyjakeen9469 5 лет назад
@@esasan I'm aware it was a vocal coach, clearly in the title. I never said she spoke down on Abbey or the song. My comment wasn't just about the emotion of the song but about the type of singer who was performing it. This coach's approach is about making it sound pretty and this was not that type of song. It was about gut wrenching pain in a beautiful melody. I prefer this song to almost all songs I hear on the radio and other than her one flat note (which didn't matter anyways,) her vocal performance was just short of perfection.
@esasan
@esasan 5 лет назад
@@jazzyjakeen9469 but she wasn't talking about making it pretty but ways in which you don't need to strain your voice in areas that sounded strained by incorporating technique that would not in Abbey's case devalue the performance but keep her on point health wise vocally (not that Abbey wasn't on point) but if her critiques can help benefit Abbey then all the better for her.

@jazzyjakeen9469 5 лет назад
@@esasan You're not understanding. First things first, you don't have to agree with my comment but I won't change my opinion because you don't. To recap, this was not the song for that. When she gave examples, they sounded like the pretty version and didn't give nearly the same raw emotion that this song begged for. Abbey's approach was exactly what makes this song leaps and bounds beyond the competition and she doesn't sing every song in the exact same fashion. A true artist will know what approach to use. Her church roots and soulful tones fuel a lot of her styling and I've noticed she makes diff choices in diff songs so it's clear she has some training. As we agreed on, she is more than likely not going to see this and prob has a good team around her that would assist her if they believed she needed more vocal coaching. The start of my initial comment was that I understood her technical suggestions but that this song was not the average and didn't need them. But in saying that why isn't this song not one to dissect vocally, regardless of it being an emotional, soulful blusey song? Considering it was a song requested from viewers, a video the vocal coach has never seen so it wouldn't be biased also has some crazy soul riffs, technique in areas that was bomb and areas that could be improved on? This vid in my opinion since we all have one is perfect for a vocal coach to critique and dissect coz it shows what was good, what could be improved on and how to convey conviction and emotion vocally which the vocal coach brought up and discussed in throwing question to us on our thoughts. People shouldn't get so offended by Tara's comments. The "vocal dollars" concept is very real, and they don't always get recharged every day. My sister, a trained vocalist, always used to say about Adele, "She's cool and all, but if she wants to keep singing 10 years from now, she's gonna have to stop singing the way she does." I didn't get it then, but Adele had vocal surgery in 2011 and cancelled her tour last year due to voice problems. Bad vocal habits can damage our voices. That's why some of us cringe at the 12:40 mark... it's great to convey emotion, but don't do it a the expense of your incredible unique voice Yebba!! Just be careful!

I think a lot of this is stylistic, she uses a lot of different vibratos and tones in this and I’m pretty sure she’s hit higher live and way more comfortably. But I like your headvoice also, nice video

As a singer, we know our limits. Yebba’s lower notes weren’t full of struggle, they were intricately put. Also, the side note about her Outfit wasn’t needed. Overall good analysis.

she wanted you to hear hypnotized like someone who is hypnotized that's where the "forced vibrato" came in, so she doesn't sound like every other artist ever

I think that the imperfections that you point out are what makes this performance a masterpiece. It's not generic. It's not perfect. She conveys her emotions Sooooooooo much better this way.

This reaction just pissed me clean off I can't even finish it like seriously she wasn't thinking about perfection she was telling a story and quite frankly doesn't need any help with how she sings or how she projects her voice she was going through some things when she sung that song she had just lost her mother Perfection is the furthest thing from her mind and since when tf does what she's wearing have to do with her voice and how she sounds

12:50 she says little rough and i feel the same way. singing too pretty is a curse, that is literally one of my favorite runs since stevie wonder. this vocal coach looks at music like a bloody math exam

Shaqkia Dossett You say this like she was supposed to automatically know Yebba’s situation. This is a critique on her vocals it’s not like she out right insulting the woman, she’s just doing her job. I get that stress and pain can affect vocals but it’s silly for someone to get mad at someone else for not initially knowing because this video was probably requested

CLUELESS point is the title says Vocal Coach Reacts not Vocal Coach critiques whole time she consistently pausing talking about she needs to do this and she needs to do that and she needs to hit this note a certain way and this and that and I don't like that run and so on and so forth now I get vocal coaching is her profession however yebba is not her student she's just doing what she loves to do and naturally letting it flow and flaws or not they were perfect to me but all that doing her job stuff don't really matter cause that means nothing if she's not paying her for her help or her opinion... And yes tho she may not have known her situation that just goes to show you never know what a person is going through so before assuming, you should take a step back and consider that maybe there's a reason someone does something the way they do it

Shaqkia Dossett but like that’s what she does she blindly watches videos and reacts as a vocal coach which is the title. As a vocal coach she is going to react to everything as a vocal coach and in all her videos she tells you how she would react if she was teaching them. I think you are the one missing the intent of this video. And she obviously liked it and she said she is talented and doing well. She even said she was doing to well for the voice tv show to help her out. She is doing what she does and giving her opinion that doesn’t mean she misses the point of the song she like the singer is just doing her job.

Josh Mosley trust and believe I'm not missing you guy's point I completely understand what y'all saying and where y'all coming from but y'all are missing my point she ain't teaching them anything cause they could care less she is only teaching those of you that watch this video how in her opinion should be sang maybe Yebba wants to sing her song the way she is singing it with rough notes and so on and so forth whose to say that as she was writing the song she didn't hear them rugged notes in her head and honestly I don't care how anytime feels about my comment cause as far as I'm concerned just like y'all saying this is her opinion as a vocal coach.... This is my opinion of nobody likes my comment that cool then keep scrolling and no I don't know what she says in all hey videos because this was the first and last video that I've seen of hers and I didn't even fully finish this one because I couldn't stand her "critique"

Yebba, I hope you're not listening to this lady. You are truly one of the most gifted singers I have ever heard and you are beautiful as well. I am a musician so do know what I'm talking about. Keep doing what you're doing in exactly the way you are doing it. You are perfect just the way you are!

Based on comments, if Yebba sang the way you believe she “should” have, she would never have evoked such emotion in her listeners. Do you have an example of one of your performances with perfect technical execution that evoked such a response from such a diverse group of humans?

I think what would help ppl understand her vocal choices it would help to know that she is southern and used to singing gospel. The crack was intentional

In music Rules are meant to be broken, and for good reason. She perfectly conveys her pain to the listener. It’s what makes the lyrics so believable. Artistically, it’s just so raw and beautiful! I wouldn’t dare change a thing!

Just wanted to say I love Yebba, and I love your critique. People don’t understand what your intention is with these videos apparently, but I see you and think you’re critiques are very intuitive and you are very well spoken! You help to understand the technical side of these performances. People need to know that Yebba sounded like she did in this performance by perfecting the technicalities of it first, and by doing that she was able to perform so emotionally the way they love. Also, how do people expect a Vocal Coach to demonstrate what techniques she’s describing without using her own voice?

@@robertjosephmaccready4820 Sorry being constructive ends when saying 'they're surprised by someone's voice after first seeing their appearance'. .Or critiquing the outfit she chose to wear - 2019.

This is my least liked of Tara's reaction videos. She missed everything beautiful and creative. I came here because I appreciate that she watches the videos for the first time, assuming she is telling the truth when she claims so. I will give her that but the rest of this video was a thumbs down for me. And I understand practical vocal technique pretty well, this isn't some "uneducated" opinion.

I honestly believe that her trailing off on that high head note was the most appropriate sound for the song, even if it wasn't intentional. What irked me was how suddenly and emotionally disconnected she went from a build-up to a quiet calm tone. Loved it anyway, definitely going to check out everethyng she released.

She's saying she's about to LOSE her MIND. Where is the stability in that?! Have you EVER had your heart broken? Can you remember the stages you went through? Can you remember how unstable your emotions were? For me, there were times I'd think about the person and anger set in to the point I was ready to go punch a hole through a wall, but I had to take a deep breath and pull myself together. I had to smile to wipe that rage off of my face. That's the reality of heartbreak. It's unstable, just like her vocals. So guess what that means? She did her job well in conveying this song. It's your job as the listener to be open to receiving it instead of looking for inconsistencies in a song that's not supposed to add up.
