Japanese pop really loves key changes. Their melodies are so different in flavour than western music and even K-Pop, which has a lot of clear western influence. Yoasobi nails these key changes so effortlessly and her voice is so soothing. Even her high belts are light and soft and so cleanly delivered. It’s interesting with this song, because there is so much complexity and so many layers to it, musically, but it’s also got a simplicity that makes it really easy to listen to.

It's Vocaloid influenced. Ayase is a Vocaloid producer. It's good that he has a real vocalist though. He's bad at actual Vocaloid. He's great at making songs but his Hatsune Miku sounds bad. You need to hear the Project Sekai version of 'Cinema'. They added real vocals to it and it sounds fantastic. Ayase's Vocaloid version sounds kinda bad.

You have to check out Yoasobi’s live version of Idol…almost the ultimate showcase for Ikura’s energy, pure singing talent and versatility. I think Ikura has to be my most favourite singer right now…awesome.

This song deals with death and despair written based on a short story Temptation of Thanatos by Hoshino Mayo. It’s about a man trying to save his suicidal lover, by giving her a hope to live. But eventually he starts to think death with her could bring an eternal peace and happiness. Lyrics subtly changes from 1st to 2nd chorus, he becoming “her” and lead them to the end by “racing into the night.” The song’s huge popularity in Japan had Covid crisis in the back ground as dystopian story matched with the unknown future and a possible end of future.
