I believe she was 18 when she filmed this. I especially love when she is singing folk songs. The overtones she is able to produce are astounding. And of course just like people listen in disbelief with Charlie "Zhou Shen" high notes, no one can believe it when they hear her sing naturally in that deep range as a woman. My personal favorites are Rechenka and Wicked Games. I was introduced to her when she first performed during a vocal contest for disadvantaged children who have spent some significant part of their childhood without parental care named "You are Super" (Ты супер!). She was only 14/15 years old when she performed and her voice sounded so mature and her control was crazy good.

Sorry for the length of this comment, but there is a lot information to give. This performance took place on September 25, 2021 on a new televised Russian vocal competition called the “ShowMaskGoOn!”. Diana Ankudinova was only 18 years old during this performance. This was a competition that was held over a 9 week period, one episode per week. Diana competed against 8 other professional singers who were also members of the judging panel, and for each individual performance they awarded judging points to each other. When not performing Diana was also a member of this judging panel which brought the contestant total to 9 individuals and each singer was required to perform a different song during each of the nine weeks, and each person had to use different genres and different styles of music. One of the 9 songs Diana performed was her cover of the Elvis Presley classic, “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. This performance showed what many vocal professionals have previously speculated, that Diana Ankudinova has developed into a true contralto voice type, and for those that may not know, a contralto voice is the lowest kind of female voice, and a true contralto is very, very rare. Diana opens “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, in her low, deep contralto voice. During a past interview, Diana said she was unhappy with her lack of a higher vocal range, and it was this lack that kept her out of the more prestigious Russian music academies. After one of the most prestigious academies rejected her, she decided, along with her voice teacher to concentrate on improving and extending her upper range. Now to answer a very commonly asked question about Diana’s vocal range, because vocal range is one of many point in defining a female singer's voice type. At age 13, in 2017, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5, a solid Alto range, but still low for a 13 year old girl. In 2021, 5 years later at age 18, during her “ShowMaskGoOn” performance, Diana’s vocal range was again measured. Her functional vocal range now measures from a low of C3 (male tenor range) to a high of B♭5 (Mezzo Soprano range). The improvement and extension to her upper range is also on full display during the middle part of this performance. But it's not just how low or high Diana can go. It's in the exceptional quality of her tone in both her upper and lower registers. Its her ability to transition seamlessly between both her lower, mid, and upper registers. It's in her timbre, the roundness, fullness, and depth of her voice. Coupled along with her ability to create, access, and use an enormous amount of resonance further define Diana as a Dramatic Contralto which is the deepest, darkest, and most powerful contralto voice type, and is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types. The depth and power of her full Dramatic Contralto chest voice is on full display during the final section of her performance. So the question becomes, how does she do it? How does this young female singer achieve this low, round, rich, deep, resonant, and profound sound? Without actually scoping her vocal tract while she is producing these low notes to actually see what is or is not happening, the general conciseness from many vocal professionals seems to attribute Diana’s unique vocal ability to her winning the genetic lottery, meaning Diana was just born with unique vocal anatomy. Diana’s vocal folds, (vocal cords), appear to be longer and thicker than the vast majority of female singers. Her larynx (voice box), also appears to be larger, and her oral cavity (mouth) is larger, plus her pharynx (throat), similarly appears to be longer than other female singers. This combination of vocal anatomy gives Diana the ability to produce the low, deep, rich, full sounds that along with her unique tone quality makes her stand out, but without actually scoping her vocal track, there is no way to be 100% sure. To conclude, midway during Diana’s performance the judge on the top row who is the first to stand is a well known Russian opera tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan, who was invited to be a guest judge. Yusif is also married to the world famous Russian opera soprano Anna Netrebko. At the end of Diana Ankudinova’s performance, Diana receives a standing ovation from all her fellow competitors. A fellow judge and competitor, Julia Parshuta, the blond woman standing in the center row dressed all in red is well known in Russia as a contemporary singer. Julia Parshuta looks totally shocked at the end of Diana's performance, puts both hands on top of her head with a look of total bewilderment and disbelief. Finally, the 9 week competition concluded on November 20, 2021, with Diana Ankudinova being awarded the most judging points from the other competitors over the 9 weeks, and was declared the winner of the series of nine programs.

For me Rechenka will always be a favorite because of Diana's age (14) when she did it, the many techniques used, the complexities of the vocalizations and her already amazing stage presence at that age, just mind blowing. If I had a daughter this is who I'd want as her role model, a truly amazing, humble, loving and classy person is miss Diana.

Recommending 'Rechenka', 'Derniere Danse' (age 14) 'Wicked Game' (age 15) which are WELL worth hearing and marveling over for both her voice and stage presence even at those ages - These were done on a show called 'You are Super' which I believe was basically for children/young people who had been disadvantaged by being without parents for a significant period of time during childhood (possibly other reasons too but I don't actually know that) It's said that Igor Krutoy (yes THAT Igor, with Dimash) who was one of the judges on this show, took her under his wing, becoming her mentor both on and off the show....

At 15 she sang this on a Russian contest for young people who were disadvantaged, primarily because of being separated from the families & put in foster care. She's around 20 now. Her performances on that show are readily available. She won. Suggest you listen to her sing "I'm only human" and "Wicked Game." And she now has her own RU-vid channel.

You have just listened to a true contralto with possibly multi-tonal qualities.. “Diana Ankudinova, A Russian National Treasure” (My opinion), I have been following her for a while. She is another very interesting story that you will discover. Wait until you hear “Wicked Games”, “Take On Me”, "Human" or "Rechenka" Even though it is in Russian you still feel the emotion behind it. Сама по себе низкая тесситура - на которую они, разумеется, обратили внимание - здесь играет второстепенную роль. А что играет главную роль - это они сразу расслышали: гипнотическое, вводящее многих слушателей в транс звучание её голоса. Такое воздействие её голос способен оказывать в любой тесситуре - и они смогут в этом убедиться, если продолжат знакомство с ней. С большой вероятностью можно предположить, что в дальнейшем они обратят внимание на многое другое: внешность, артистизм, обаяние личности и прочие важные качества, необходимые хорошему артисту. Советую ,проследить весь ее музыкальный путь. Во первых не пожалеете,во вторых ни кто так не управляет своим полифоническим голосом,во вторых все песни и каверы БИНГО,в четвёртых пожалуй единственный исполнитель ,который знает меру и неперегружает произведения оптом,визгом. Well, I would have to say that I envy you guys because you’re just now discovering what you will come to fine as an extraordinarily gifted performer for the first time, and you have a long journey in front of you if you choose so many more performances that will continuously blow your mind in its differences and every time do you think you’ve got her figured out I promise you she will blow your mind all over again. Trust me on this I would like to make a suggestion before you go any further into reactions of her music do a quick background search of who she is and how she came to be where she is, there’s a very fascinating story behind her life that just adds to the uniqueness of her, and my second suggestion would be start with her younger performances on the talent shows because they give out the best production value to her performances starting with Rechanka, and then a cover of Chris Isaak, wicked games, and then a cover of rag and bones human. Those three will get you started good it will. It will be well worth your time but please do a little background search on her first you will be glad you did.
