VOCAL COACHES DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW THIS SIMPLE TRICK TO FIX YOUR VOWELS AND TONGUE POSITION

Your tongue positioning MATTERS A LOT when you're singing. Inefficient positioning can lead to tongue tension and depression. Get your tongue out of your throat and get your voice onto higher notes.

Wow. When I tried it, I could feel my voice reverberating down into my chest and stomach. I think I finally understand the difference between head and chest singing. This completely unlocked something in me, thanks!!

I had a soft palate "breakthrough" when one choir director described it as imagining you're about to bite into a molten-lava-hot slice of pizza. That was an experience and sensation I could really relate to. By mimicking that action and recognizing the sensation of my palate rising, I can intentionally repeat it.

My choir mentor told us to "imagine a church steeple in the back of your throat" so it's been good for visualisation of what's going on when I do the "yawn" XD

This seems so useful! I have been feeling some tension after getting Covid and not singing for a couple of weeks. I’ll try to add this exercise, thank you so much Sam ♥️

Thank you Sam! Great video, right on the spot for me...I've always been told that I have problems with larinx positioning and low soft palate, but when I try to control it, I always feel some kind of built up pressure/tension on the back. Now I understand it's because I kinda have the movements of my palate and my tongue ""tied together". Maybe this exercise should be named "Palate Isolation" or something similar, since it helps isolating its movements from the tongue!

Hey Sam! Nice video :)! Could you maybe react to Alex Newell singing ''Mama will provide''? He's doing some crazy stuff and I really don't know how he's pulling that off. Especially how chesty his mix sounds. Mine sounds quite connected but it does sound ''heady''. It would be amazing if you could analyse his technique!!

Soft palate stasis shift perhaps? Because you are holding it closed then intentionally lowering your tongue and raising your soft palate. I like what you can up with!

I've heard that a cooking tongue tastes like rib eye steak, and the throat is essentially a tube. Call the exercise Tube Steak. I'm sure it doesn't have any other meanings. For real though, it deals with front stretch and back stretch. You can call it a tongue splits? Yawn cadence?

Dude, that's one of my favourite songs too. Though it unlocks a memory of embarrassment from when I was 15 and singing this very dramatically when I thought I was home alone. My parents had come in through the backdoor and had been listening to me for minutes. Horrifying. 😄
