These videos are awesome and have helped me so much with my music. I recently laid down some vocals that were directly inspired by these videos and I couldn't be happier with the results. You are not only a master but you make these ideas and concepts super digestible for the rest of us. THANK YOU!
That overdubbed power chord backed vocoder effect goes so hard... wish I could use it when ordering drive-thru coffee in the morning! 🤘😆 Your concept of "air" and maintaining it with a "sibilance bus" is really cool... it literally breathes life back into the processed vocals and adds clarity to lyrics. Those little details make such a big difference ~ thanks for sharing, Ken!
That sibilance track idea is brilliant! I've struggled with that mumbled indecipherable distorted vocals issue for longer than I can remember. I've always wondered what your secret was for putting that much distortion on the vocals while still having them remain so clear.
I'm really wondering how one might deal with phase issues without ableton time correction stuff? Would an all pass filter be something that could help?
Today is my birthday and this is my second favorite present(My son working with me on the house was the first)....where the hell have you been? My addiction just gobbled this episode up....your like waiting for a freaking Game of Thrones episode.....lol
There are so many producers that have dulled in their excitement and are just going through the motions. Nothing against them, they do their job well. But man, to work with Ken's energy in the studio would be awesome.
hey Ken! discovered this channel recently and it's an absolute GOLD MINE! been binging your uploads, love your energy! I'm really curious about the 'puppy gristle' session back in the 90s. on the back of the album cover, kevin mentions your creative engineering and so i would love to see a video from you talking about that session and what is was like to have legends in the same space rockin out!! were Chris & Cosey there? would be super interesting to hear your recollection of it thanks again for your content - very insightful and inspiring!
Ken! Could you do a tips and tricks video on the different pieces of gear you use? I'm particularly interested in how you use the H3500, but I'm sure you have awesome info on other things as well.
ALWAYS SO HAPPY to see these uploads Holy HiWatt! This is truly my church and place of learning! So much knowledge combined with true positivity! You’re a gift to all of us brother. I compared these videos to watching a master sword-smith create and hone a blade to perfection and then passing along that knowledge combined with the wisdom of how and why. I will be taking this into my studio and have a “good old play with it”! 🤙🏼🎸
Been dabbling with vocoders on my own vocal productions lately.... you share some excellent advice and ideas that i cant wait to try! Thanks so much for all of these awesome videos :)
Super awesome!! I've been watching the prices on the Electrix Vocoders over the past couple of years and they keep going up and up. I remember when you practically couldn't GIVE them away =o] Another killer video.
So killer... Jealous watching this because I don’t have my Warp Factory anymore. Love that signature sound. I used the Warp Factory and MoFx all over my vocals on an album in the early 2000s. So sweet! 🤘🔥
I wish one of my music projects got popular enough to work with you as producer. I watch the hell outta your videos and you have a great ear for everything
Would you happen to know what type of fx is used on the vocals for FLAs Shifting through the lens? Does not quite sound like a vocoder.... Since you worked on the album....
I know this isn’t the answer to your question (and I’m certainly not trying to speak for Ken), but the VST called “Manipulator” (made by Infected Mushroom) is an awesome VST for vocal manipulation. It’s perfect for creating robotic vocal FX. Just putting that out there… :)
Less than nine minutes in, and I've already got a big bag full of "aha! Oh wow! Oh, that's why that happens!". If I had a time machine I'd go tell teenage me that some day, the dude responsible for so much of the awesome sounds you love on those CD's you're listening to will have a show available over that newfangled internet thing, and he's still going to be able to blow your mind. Also, young man, you should get interested in making music now, and don't leave it for middle age, yah dummy.
