Not only are you beautiful but your explanation on frequency and resonance was amazing. Although I am not a singer I do want to improve the frequency and resonate of my voice so I am doing these exercises. You have such control over your resonate its amazing. You gained a subscriber. Hope you don't mind.

Just discovered your videos and they are so simple yet so effective. I am not a singer but work with clients for confidence in presentations interviews etc and have known for a long time that it's not only 'all in the mind' since one's internal voice perception has a massive influence on how confident you feel. Thank you these are such good fun as well.

I think the strain I feel is due to lack of resonance. Took me many courses and singing instructors and THIS video to help me see this. I am going to start incorporating resonance exercises. Do SOVT exercises help with resonance? Just wondering Seems like it would. Do you offer singing lessons by any chance? You are the best instructor out there

She is wrong, and she even contradicts herself, unknowingly, I guess. She took the example of the tuning fork in 440 Hz that will resonate if a 440 Hz tone is played near it. So, the resonator must be tuned to the same frequency as the tone it will resonate with. A resonator must also have fairly hard surfaces and an open space with air. So, let's look at the bones, cavities in the face and the nasal cavity. They don't have hard walls and they are one size. So they can't resonate, and if they could they would only be able to resonate the frequency that correlates to their shape - that would mean ONE note. So, those cavities in the face do not work as resonators - it's acoustically impossible. The only space that fill the criteria for resonators is the pharynx. It's shape can be adjusted by changing the position of the soft palate, larynx and tongue, and it has surfaces that are hard enough. So the sound is created by the vocal folds and resonated and amplified in the pharynx. That's it. The only possible way adjustment of the oral cavity is to open and close the jaw, needed for some vowels. The sensation that can be felt in the face is sympathetic vibrations, but they don't add to, or change the timbre of the voice.
@martinatodorovic7333
@martinatodorovic7333 3 года назад
When I do the nay exercises I sort of feel it makes my voice hoarse. Focusing on getting a brighter talking voice. It's mostly changing the shape of the oral cavity not the nose.

Can someone explain to me why people (esp haters) say *Ariana* doesn't have resonance when, according to this video, humming a random note or frequencies coming from the vocal folds as air passes through them is basically resonance but at a particular area or resonating cavity? lol
@eavescent
@eavescent 3 года назад
most likely they mean that she sounds childish/nasally, and doesn't have that gospel depth to her voice like Mariah/Whitney😊
@MissMartianDCAU
@MissMartianDCAU 2 года назад
The real answer is that this video is talking about is the scientific definition of resonance, which has to do with the oscillation of sound waves and, of course, this exists regardless of whether you are singing with optimal technique or not. What most people are referring to is the quality of a resonant sound; this is not just a sound that produces resonance in the scientific sense, but rather the sound created when the resonator (the vocal tract) is in its correct position which enhances a normal sound and makes it more ful, round and provides depth to it. It has to do with opening up and creating space in the tract which involves getting rid of things like nasality which restrict it.

On the other hand i tried the inhalation thing with the book, and also the humming and trying to hold some notes, and 2 things happened to me after some minutes. I started to get a little bit dizzy and i heard a REALLY loud BEEEEEPP in my ears...you are telling me that's because of the resonance ??? eventhough i can't really sing???

The resonant explanation is incorrect. Every object has only one frequency, like each string of a violin can vibrate only at one frequency. But the rich sounds from professional singing is not only at one or few fixed frequencies. The rich sound should be called harmonics in physics.
