I saw Yolanda Adams perform at a church function when I was 16; she had me mesmerized. I played that cd on repeat until it wore out.

June 2000. My daughter had serious emergency surgery. Didn’t know what would happen. Fell asleep and remember tears rolling from my eyes as I heard an “ angel” singing “Alone in a room😢She sang I open my heart (my first time hearing it) and when she got to all I need is one word. WHEW. I felt a release and relief come over me. 24 years later my daughter is a college graduate and happily married.JUST THAT ONE WORD brought us through😭😭Thank you Jesus for waking me up to hear the words that I needed to hear. God Bless Yolanda Adams. The way God uses her is amazing😭❤️☮️🙏🏿🙏🏿💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐

One of my favourite nuances of this vocal is at 4:03 - 4:04 when she starts “times” in that twangy space you spoke about then shifts it into an anchored fuller sound. It really caught me off guard the first time i heard it

When I saw this on BET I was like oh my goodness she did not have to shut it down like that lol yeah she did that and I think she put everybody else to shame who also honored Anita before she sang her butt off
