Gigante maestro Taddei - at any age, in any role, he is magnificent! His gorgeous baritone still sonorous; Pavarotti, almost twenty years his junior, does his best, but the older generation does it with ease and irresistible charm.
Pavarotti was amazing, but his golden years was yet to come I think. He shines the most during the 80s. And there were some real diamonds in the 90s too. The passion, the emotion got even better even though the strength suffered during the final years.
I attended this performance - no doubt Taddei was masterful even at his advanced age here- and comparing a baritone with a tenor is similar to comparing apples and pears 🙄. But…Who can resist Luciano’s shining tenor - even more so in his favourite role, Nemorino?
There's a video here on RU-vid of a performance of this duet with Ugo Benelli in which he's 85, if I'm not mistaken. Both still in great shape, considering their ages.
Conosciuto backstage con altri amici cantanti al suo debutto al MET! Malgrado L età avanzata era emozionantissimo. Persona squisita, davvero . Generazione di altri grandissimi ( Panerai, Bruson)
