After hearing numerous versions of this aria, I've come to realize that it has gotten a lot faster by the years, the older ones usually have a softer, slower tempo, and you can really feel the longing, which has a more romantic effect But still, she has an amazing voice

She's great. Just discovered her. Heard her last night at the Royal Festival Hall in London, singing Berio's Folk Songs and Ravel's Scheherazade. Absolutely fantastic! Such a thrilling voice.

Marianne Crebassa, la meilleure mezzo à mes yeux. Je l'ai repérée dans une ancienne video des "nuits de la voix" où elle chantait "When I Am Laid in Earth". Quelle puissance et quelle maturité déjà (dommage que la vidéo soit désormais introuvable). Et depuis, sa voix ne cesse de progresser en maîtrise. La chaleur d'une châtaigne grillée et la douceur du velours, et un coffre incroyable. J'ai tellement hâte de la voir chanter Carmen, les récentes Séguedilles en donnent un avant-goût délectable. Bravo, longue et belle carrière à elle !!

Beautiful performance!! She surely has a great career ahead of her. But I feel the need to compare her to a performance by von Stade in the same role. It's hard to pin down the differences between the two. In my clumsy way I will only say that I found von Stade's singing to be more nuanced. Marianne is nipping at her heels and I think she will surely equal Flicka soon!

I did this exact same ornament at the end....in 2000/2001 on an audition tape. Came up with it myself. I was told it was too Rossini-esque. Here it is years later in an actual production.

I still think that variations should be used very sparingly in the "da capos" of Mozart's Da Ponte trilogy. What is usually agreeable in a virtuoso opera seria aria sounds forced and counterfeit in these three oh so very human(e) comedies.

Я не согласен с режиссером. Так нельзя)) Это преступление против Композитора, против Сопрано, против Слушателя)) Эти жесты... я понимаю их смысловое значение, но их... специфичность не может не отразиться на голосе. В силу физиологических особенностей строения человека. Можно даже не смотреть этот номер, а всё равно услышишь некую корявость. Пожалуйста, будьте любезны - каким бы робким, зажатым, закомплексованным юношей не был наш Керубино, в момент исполнения этой божественной арии фрустрация должна отступить, а перед нами явиться крылатый херувим, амур, бог любви.

The microphone in the hat is too visible and repulsive. It’s also the reason for the unnatural voice acoustic. The record companies should return to recording through open space.

Beautiful performance but why the stupid out of place modern dress ? I get so tired of the "artsy-fartsy" types who screw-up operas like this because they know so much more than the composer did !
