The other highlight of this last episode for me was Henk Poort and Emma Heesters singing a classic Italian love song. Floor also sings 5 other songs in the series which are all amazing. Emma Heesters also sings an amazing version of one of Floors songs called Strong. An amazing television program. It'll be hard to top this whole series of tribute songs. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OumZnDaQINo.html
I think the chemistry of the 2 works so well, because they perfectly portrait the characters of the musical. Floor admires Henk and it's like a dream coming true to her, being able to sing a duet with him. She wants to impress him because she truly looks up to him. Henk on the other side found this girl with the amazing voice that he got obsessed with and I believe him in the finale, that he wants nothing more than her to sing as good as she can, because it's just that good. The additional facts, that Floor loved the musical as a little girl while Henk was playing the role of the Phantom for years make it just so much better. It was the perfect song for the two. Fun Fact: Henk only agreed to do the song under the condition that he could go on stage with nightwish. They'll be playing together in Amsterdam and Henk will also be on Floors solo tour.
Have lost count of the times I've watched both this performance and all the reaction videos to it. Never tire of it and always left with a massive smile on my face by the end of it.😁
Henk Poort was the Dutch Phantom of the Opera back in the 90s. He also used distortion for this song. FYI he has NEVER used distortion before this show when he learned it for when Floor "assigned" him Disturbed's Sound of Silence song to sing. You really should listen to him singing Sound of Silence. It was amazing.
Jessica271555 it wasn’t assigned to him he picked the song for Floor and Henk decided to do the disturbed version and learn the distortion as he was singing metal for Floor.
Adding distortion is not "a big no go" for operasingers. It just is not used in the repertoire. We are bound to the style the composer wants, we can't just add anything that isn't written. That would be like painting a moustache on the Mona Lisa. So it's not because we can't, or don't want to, it's because it doesn't belong in the rep.
Even though she has surpassed her childhood hero, when he sings The Sound of Silence she looks at him with joy and adoration. And he clearly thinks the world of her. A wonderful connection. I like his singing a lot and she is fantastic.
Henk was the Dutch Phantom for many years. In fact Andrew Lloyd Weber said Henk was one of his favourite Phantoms. This show is not a competition. It's more like they gather a group of singers and they pay tribute to a different singer every episode.
100% spot on. Plus Henk agreed to do this as long as he got to perform this again with Floor and Nightwish. They are scheduled to perform it in a number of concerts now.
Nice reaction. For the future, Jansen is pronounced like yan-sen. Henk was the Dutch phantom in the 90s and he's Floor idol. Floor asked him to do the duet and his condition was that they do the Nightwish version and he would like to perform it later with Nightwish when they are in the Netherlands. They will perform this also on her (sold-out) solo tour in the Netherlands. After this duet episode was live in the Netherlands, the Nightwish gig in Amsterdam sold out also, so they added another date. Because you like to see up close you should watch all Beste Zangers songs by her. ;)
Henk featured in the 10th Anniversary Royal Albert Hall London concert of Les Miserables (he's on my DVD) because he was the first Dutch ValJean (and consequently, the first person to play Phantom there too) He is huge in his country, like Ruthie Henshall and Michael Ball in the UK, and Kristin Chenoweth in USA for instance.
I can't remember how many times I have listened to it, but it never gets old. When she starts to soar, the tears come again. 😭 I don't know what she does to me, but I don't want her to stop it. And she is as lovely offstage as she is talented on it. The complete star package. It's taken her over 20 years to become an overnight sensation in her own country (outside of the Metal community).
I've long lost count to the number of times I've watched this performance and reactions to it, and it doesn't get old. An incredible flawless performance. Her voice and performance, his voice and performance, the bands performance, all stunning and flawless.
Forgot to add in my previous comment, you should react to all her performances on Beste Zangers. They're all stunning but in totally different ways. It really showcases her vocal genius. On the first song, Vilja Lied, the other singers knew nothing about her except that she was a metal singer. The looks on their faces during her performance are priceless.😁
@@martindoorn9638 I believe Tim said he'd met her once in a studio during her After Forever days but if you look at his face during Vilja Lied, he's just as stunned as the rest. He may have known her or knew of her but I'm certain he had no idea of what she could actually do!
It was great to see you note Floor's ability to quickly shift between different vocal colours, to the point now of being able to do it evrery couple of words if she wants. There are two recent performances from her that really showcase her doing that. One is from this same Beste Zangers show on the song "I don't know a thing about love" and the other is a recent Nightwish live video release for Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires. I hope you'll consider doing a reaction to one of those at some point.
Yes yes, great performance examples to point out and note this skill in! A couple of songs at that Buenos Aires performance were 'something else'- like an out of body experience to hear🎼🎶❣️xxx
'I love the chemistry, Floor is just a great actor' Umm... No... Henk poort was one of her favorite singers when she was a young teen, and he was in the Dutch version of the Phantom. She's not acting, she really adores this man :)
Henk is actually a fan of Floor's as well. He agreed to do this with her only on the condition that the next time Nightwish went through the Netherlands on tour he got to join them onstage for a song.
@@joheishan6589 if you're talking about Phantom of the Opera.... it's already a musical. That's where the song comes from. It's like an albums title also being a song on the album. If you mean Floor and Henk as leading roles, I don't know if that will ever happen, would be awesome to see.
@@dwarvensmith80 Yeah, I know the original Phantom Musical by Webber. I meant a rock/metal version with Floor and Henk. Never gonna happen, but a guy can dream...
*When, where & who* : recorded on a rainy April evening 2019, outdoors at resort Atzaró on Ibiza Island. A FTV production; BesteZangers season #12 hosted by Jan Smit. Not only Jansen & Poort (and the other 5) sang live, also the *MF band* displayed their musical skills live! So, also credits to the MF Band with: Marcel Fisser (bandleader & lead guitar) - Marijn van den Berg (drums) - Serge Bredewold ( *bass* guitar) - Edwin de Groot (guitar / backing vocals) - Gregor Hamilton (synthesizer / keyboards) - Martijn de Laat (trumpet) - Arno Slijper (piano / keyboards) - Lesley van der Aa (backing vocals) and multi-instrumentalist Hubert Heeringa (the headscarfed saxofonist, violinist, etc).
I saw the rain comming on the show and then they performed and it was like it belongs to the whole song ...beautiful that even nature was feeling it all like we all do
the fact that henkl is actually floors idol takes this performance to the next level she is performing with the one she addores as an artist which makes her perform even better then she normal does thats the actual truth behind why this is next lv :)
Not sure which one was more mesmerizing, the perfection of this performance or watching your contagious smile. Fun! If I had teeth like yours, I would never close my mouth... 😄
Because of your name, I assume that you live in Finland? I'm pretty sure you might want to keep your teeth hidden when there is below -20°C out there, or snowing in horizontal direction =D But I get your point, she looks very beautiful with her smile (and teeth).
Floor Jansen is amazing! No matter her style, it seems very much effortless. I also love the part when Henk Poort (almost) starts belting! Did not expect this. Such a great performance! Such great harmony of both voices together.
@@ChrisPage68 floor jansen and he where together in the same show. the show is not really a competition. it is actualy 7 singers coming together to sing songs to the artist that is in the spotlight that weak. the artist in the hot seat makes a list off songs off him/ her or that mean something to him/her. the last show is a duet show so in total its 8 shows. over the course of these shows the artists learn a lot about why some one sings this or does that. floor told that she was totaly fan girling over him when she was small. henk and floor became very good friends during the course of the show. as she did with other artists that where there.
The best version of this classic I have yet heard. Like you mention, great chemistry between Henk and Floor, their voices complement each other but kudos also to the band. They are superb. The production values on this show are excellent, as are the arrangements, with the levels spot on. At no point are either of their voices swamped by the music.
The song "Winner" that Floor performed on Beste Zangers as a tribute to Tim's paralyzed brother, was my favorite on the show. It had everyone in tears until the finale. Her tribute to Henk "Vilja Lied" was the first song of the 3 week show which took everyone by surprise. The participants didn't know much about each other when the show began.
Love the intelligent comment. You know what you ate talking about. This refreshing to hear because there are lots of people making comments that know nothing. Thank you. Floor is the ultimate Nordic Viking angel goddess soprano. No person can sing like floor. Sent to earth to show us mortals what heaven sounds like.
The original video of this performance is how I found out about Floor Jansen and symphonic metal. It was recommended to be by YT shortly after it originally aired. I've been diving deep into symphonic metal and Floor Jansen's discography ever since.
I know Floor personally, way before she joined Nightwish. I met her on the music academy, after that she went to the Rock Academy. She has a voice, so clean....it is very rare and beautiful. Besides that she is just an amazing sweet and humble person. You rock girl! \M/ Henk performed in the musical "Phanton of the Opera" and he was one of the favorites of the writer. Henk lived in Italy and discovered Andre Bocelli, singing in a bar. Floor wanted to sing with Henk since she was a teenager. He was her idol. Beautiful how music brings people to each other.
It's not actually a competition really. Basically a popular / well known artists performing each others songs or songs that are close to them and injecting the songs with some personal touch. I enjoy the format a lot. It's essence is something that's missing from today's shows where everything has to have a winner and losers. Just my small ramble on the subject. I enjoy watching your videos alot.
Well said. Thank you for clarifying the intention of the show. How beautiful! I do wonder if such a show could exist here in the States. I so appreciate you watching. Lovely to hear from you today!😘
Thank you so much for reacting! I appreciate your talking, the fun factor seven or so :) just all that stunningly bundled Information you give. Thank you!
So I’m not a singer. Can’t carry a tune in a bucket. But for some reason I love watching these videos, and honestly, for the first time and across many channels, watching you made me say “man, I wish I could have had her as a teacher.” Not to get all Dr Phil in a RU-vid comment, but there’s a kindness about you that I think would have made cautious, terrified-of-failure me feel so safe and encouraged. Your students are very lucky indeed.
Excelente reacción Cristine y comparto contigo, los dos super cantantes tienen mucha química en esta interpretación y eso salta a los ojos de todo el mundo, supongo que existe una admiración y aprecio mutuo. Saludos
I love it that yo ulook/listen to the dutch program "beste zangers" best singers Its one of my favourites and im Dutch ;) But I love the way you look and talk. And how your eyes get emotional sometimes.. keep it going your great and beautiful
Floor has been a fan of Henk since childhood, so she was so happy to sing with him. He added distortion in the second part especially for her, because she invited him to sing it with Nightwish
You have GOT to do the Nightwish version from the End Of An Era concert. I don't think you've reacted to their original singer yet, Tarja, and this is from her last performance with them. Floor is definitely more diverse/has more colors to her voice, but Tarja has a tone that'll give you shivers/goosebumps and is instantly recognizable.
Such a great song and reaction. These two really are great together. If you haven't already you should watch the duet between Emma and Henk from the same show. Sung in Italian/English, beautifully done.
Henk was classically trained at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam after he learned the trade of billiard table maker first. I kid you not. During his training he won the Cristina Deutekom Concours. After finishing his training he wanted more life and musical experience and travelled around Europe to sing for various opera houses. Verdi seemed to be his favourite as he played in 6 pieces by the Italian grandmaster. In Germany he mostly played operettes. With his experience he was then asked to play `The Phantom´ and some claim that Andrew Lloyd Webber had said that Henk ´was´ The Phantom. Not that he sang it best but the intensity he brought to his performances truly brought the character of Erik to life. Floor saw Henk play when she was a little girl and during her training at the Dutch Rock Academy and later the Conservatory considered his drive, versatility and approach to singing as an inspiration. So when they both ended up in this show Floor asked Henk to sing this song with her to make the `teacher`-'pupil'-theme from the novel come full circle. Henk agreed on the condition that he got to sing the song with Floor again when Nightwish would do a concert in The Netherlands. Floor and later the band agreed. So it looks like we will get to enjoy this performance again next year in the full Nightwish setting. No disrespect to the Marcel Fisser Band who have been phenomenal again during this show. Another story about Henk is that during his travels through Italy he once met a blind vocalist in a bar. They sang a couple of songs together and Henk was so impressed that he wanted to work more with the young man. Henk got offered to do another show somewhere else and they lost contact. A couple years later Henk recognized the voice when he heard "Time to say goodbye" and realised that the young man in the bar had been Andrea Bocelli. To honour him he also did a beautiful rendition of "Vivo Per Lei" with Emma Heesters on this show. I highly recommend it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OumZnDaQINo.html This show is pure gold for anyone into any kind of music as it mixes all kind of genres and although it tugs on the hearthstrings from time to time (cough- Floor singing "Winner" and Emma Heesters singing "Strong"-cough) it is all about genuine emotions and love for music and we get a look behind the curtain as the singers explain how and why they write songs and what drives them on a personal level.
Oh my heavens! It is comments like these that make my heart so happy that I have a RU-vid channel. Thank you, dear Wilco for this informative, WONDERFUL comment. The time and care you've taken to educate both myself and this community is heartwarming and I deeply appreciate you. Billiard table maker, huh? Who knew?! I am thoroughly intrigued by Henk. You will see him on my channel again soon, never fear. Thank you again for everything! 💖
@Sam Smith -- > *FLOOR* - origin and meaning: ( Dutch born Jansen) her firstname *Floor* comes from the Latin word "florens". That means "flourishing, charming, respectable." The name is derived from Florentius. The name is also used as an abbreviation for Flora. Flora was the Roman goddess of flowers and spring. She was the symbol of nature. That is why the plant world is still called "flora" in Dutch. She was also one of the goddesses of fertility. In English the word "floor" also occurs independently. It means "floor, ground." Because of this everyday meaning, Floor is usually not used as a given name in English-speaking areas.
Thanks for this great reaction video for this stellar performance of the Nightwish version of the song (Yes, Nightwish did it like this with their 1st female vocalist Tarja Turunen, who is a classically trained soprano.) with so much emotion. If there's an afterlife, I hope to listen to this for all eternity.
What I liked is right at the end when Floor hits those notes ( sing for me) and everyone one is like wow.. Yet as this is final final show of the series the other artist had learned of Floors Abilities by this time.
Vilja Lied from the same show, in my opinion can't be missed, she really brings it and the reactions she gets from those people are all speechless with jaws dropped on the floor. Before this show, she wasn't really know in her own country. Most people never heard of her. The other songs that she performs are all amazing. She sings in multiple languages, different genres, and putting her own touch in to everything. I'll also say the other cast members are also very talented and if you want to watch on your own time, someone did translate the entire show series. Just look for videos Beste Zangers by Denise.
Hi Christi, Beste Zangers isn’t a competition, a group of Dutch or sometimes also Belgian singers is invited to Spain. One of the singers has her or his day and the others sing a song fir that singer. It can either be the performers song or a song that he or she likes. The singer of that song makes it his or hers version and sometimes make a translation. The final episode is duets, which was also this song The Phantom of the Opera. It exists over 10 years now and most episodes are amazing to be honest. By the way so are your reactions
ok wow great again and as i know you have had a look at Henk poort doing "The Sound of Silence" a little secrest for you the little sneak you see him do into distortion in this number is I believe his first time in the sound of silence you of course saw how truly talented this man is him and Floor together is a gift for us all just amasing thank you
Henk is one of Floor's musical heroes so this was a dream for her to be Christine with Henk as his version of the Phantom. If you watch her reacting to him singing Sound of Silence she fully fangirls which is so cute!
Floor actually studied musical theatre, and Henk was the Dutch Phantom. Such a gorgeous performance from both of them. They're going to do this song again on Floor's tour, starting January. Can't wait too see it live. 😍 I always appreciate your reactions and this one didn't disappoint. Great work! I'd love to see more reactions to Floor's performances on Beste Zangers. I honestly can't choose just one song I love best, they're all awesome. Just watch them all. 😂
You are so kind. Thank you. I am more than a little jealous you get to see this masterpiece live! What a wonderful thing to look forward to! Have a wonderful time! 😘
The first letter of her name is pronounced as 'y' in Dutch; Yansen or Yahnsen as I say it. Floor is a consummate actress as you can see all through this performance. Watch when Henk sings "my power over you" she bends her knees and lowers her eyes. She turns away from him when he sings"though you turn from me". She had thought out every move she needed to make for the song to be successful theater.
No competition dear Christi :) Very good singers pushing each other to unknown heights. Two songs of Floor (on this show) went on No 1 in the Netherlands. There are a lot more amazing performances on "Beste Zangers". I have heard, Henk sings the Phantom for a few years now at a Dutch Opera. Floor is one of his fans. Great reaction as always Mrs Bovee.
thank you for this wonderful breakdown. You pointed out everything I saw with her tongue and jaw. I love it when her jaw drops further and her mouth gets wider. when she's starting the climax
Henk asserting his character, with Floor towering over him, added to the fun factor. No disrespect intended - his performance was impressive, especially adding the distortion in his voice. Henk will be featured in all of Floor's solo shows, including the 6000-seat AFAS arena, so I hope one of the shows will be recorded.
Another reaction vid I saw said "She could play Christine, easy". I was picturing Andrew Lloyd Webber on the phone to a theatrical agent: "Who's your tallest baritone?"
Well, you are in for a treat! All her performances in the show were awesome! She sang in 4 languages and added a rock sauce to almost every song: Vilja lied; German aria, sang for Henk Poort Mama; dutch pop/folk, sang for Samantha Steenwijk Que se siente; salsa, sang for Rolf Sanchez About love I don't know a thing; country ballad, sang for Ruben Annink Shallow; Lady Gaga cover, sang for Emma Heesters Winner; rock, sang for Tim Akerman Shallow, feat Tim Akerman, rock version
You are so beautiful, and such a coherent comment, congratulations, you are a goddess .... I am your fan, here on the other side of the world, from Brazil...
Floor is doing some solo dates in The Netherlands and Henk is her special quest, those shows sold out in a matter of 2 or 3 hours after the announcement. He will be joing Nightwish on ther Amsterdam dates next nov, and those are sold out already
Do more Beste Zangers was such an amazing show.... it's actually not a competition but they gather some of the countries best singers to perform for eachother signing songs that they either wrote or that mean somthing to them Floor really goes outside of her zone for some of these and just delivers !!!!!!!
This TV show, Beste Zangers, is not a competition. It's the opposite of competition. It's where professional established famous singers come to collaborate and sing for and with each other.
