The way he said, "Because when we talk about Mariah Carey and (vocal) range like you know we're talking about the entire piano basically." Dude chose to say FACT that most haters cannot accept 😌🙌🏻👑
Finally, someone is explaining how difficult it is to sing the style Mariah has created. People love to compare her to other singers. Some have gone so far as to place her in some kind of a vocal trinity . In reality she’s in a league of her own. That’s why I’m 30 years it’s very rare that you’ll find a singer covering Mariah, unlike the other two…. She’s simply the greatest to ever do it.
@@dandyguy7430 its crazy the fact that songs like emotions are already super hard as is, and then during live performances she can reinvent the song to make it even harder!!
I was just thinking that. Everybody who starts off reacting to a couple of her videos starts reacting to all of them. Idk if it's the fan requests or just them staning
All i can say is MARIAH = GODTIER she wholly changed the song to her own signature. What do you expect from a woman who mastered remixing songs, songwriter and producer ♥️♥️♥️♥️
This is the thing... She not only has mastered vocal technique with everything in mind that you've mentioned and more... She also has a cosmic range... along with being a MUSICIAN not just a singer. She writes, produces, remixes, masters... she does it all, except playing the instruments by herself. This performance was a tribute to Patti labelle... She actually mimicked some of Patti's stylistic choices from memory while simultaneously infusing it with her own style... not because some producer/director conceptualized it and instructed her, but instead she came up with it herself!!! WHILE... WHILE ALSO... Making it look effortless, and super emotional too... If that doesn't scream MUSIC LEGEND, I don't know what does.
You forgot to add that Mariah is also polyphonic and one of the very few artists with a perfect pitch. With all the things she can do with her voice plus her unparalleled musicianship, she is undoubtedly the greatest vocalist that has ever walked this earth. No one can come close to her talent.
I believed her nodules helped her to accessed those.. and practiced countless of times. I heard she was often cutting classes just to write songs and practicing a lot. That she even given a nickname "Mirage" in her class. She's only hundred percent present during literature. And in her 18, she's working as cashier during the day and recording/singing/making songs at night till dawn. She attended beauty school and one of her schoolmates said she was "hey do you want to hear my new song?". She was always singing and showing her newly made songs to her classmates and never finished the beauty school lol. also became backing vocals for a singer brenda. Brenda helped her. And later on she became an ultimate idol. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Fun fact about Mariah's whispery sound - the studio version of Vision of Love uses the backing vocals from her demo, recorded on cheap drum mic, because it picked up the airyness
I love how she always closes her phrases/words off to preserve the full word. 90% of singers I've seen & even some really good ones don't fully close off the word after a run and leave it off on a vowel still
Mariah is one of those singers that comes along once in a lifetime. Yes, she's superhuman, but what makes her so unique is that she has vocal nodules which have been her blessing and her curse. She has admitted this in interviews. These nodules and learning to sing with them and around them give her an extremely unique sound. They also have led to her vocal decline in recent years as well. She still is amazing though.
Mariah actually said (on Twitter spaces 2021) she didn't did so great on this performance 😬😅 or maybe she was just being humble? what do u think guys? ❤️
Mariah My all live divas 1998 ( masterpiece ) Butterfly live 1997 SNL ( showcasing her whisper register ) Anytime you need a friend live 1996 ( amazing girly tone ) Emotions live 1996 or 1991 ( wow )
Hey you know what would be cool? If you made an analysis on Mariahs vocal impact on other artists. All the divas that came out the late 90s early 2000’s like Beyoncé, Britney, Christina Aguilera all kinda adopted her rifts and runs.
I believe that hissing sound or breathy sound is due to Mariah’s vocal nodules. This is around the time where her vocal nodules are more apparent in her singing. I think that’s why that breathiness is so effortless because the folds can’t close, causing the breathy tone
Her folds can close and we know this because there are moments where that hissing doesn't happen. However, as you said, using aspirate in the way she does here may be far easier due to nodules. I don't know what the answer is, but I imagine she does. I wish I could sit down with her and ask haha
@@LesageSinging I'm pretty sure Mariah actually said once in a few interviews that the nodules helps her breathy tone and whistling. And it makes sense since the nodules keeps the folds from touching properly, allowing more air to leak. It would be awesome if artists got interviewd to talk about their voices and technique.
you all are incorrect. Mariah ends most of her notes with the H sound, which give her that hissing sound. Kelly Price, one of her former background singers, mentioned she learned this from MC.
I love it that he mentioned wen we talk abt mariahs' range is the entire piano n even off the piano keys - which was mentioned in one of her review for mariah as well as both of my vocal teachers say the same too
I wonder who else adds this amount, or even larger, of elements in their renditions. I would like to watch a performance like this one by another artist to see if they also sound good.
I love Mariah, she has abilities and uses them only when they are there for her. She doesn’t try things that she can’t do. But there’s not much she can’t do! Lol
Thank you once again for analyzing Mariah Carey. I am now able to appreciate more of her amazing singing abilities. Love your reaction! Appreciate it if you could do My All Live SNL.
I haven't seen anyone else say this so I'll put it out there. Would love to see you do a breakdown on breakdown. One of my favs, and I think one of her most underrated songs. And Bliss.
Patti said it all with that stank face. Mariah sang down like her life depended on it. She gave everything she had and we are so fortunate to have it on video to see and hear
im sure someone else has mentioned this but that intro is the "Angels Cry Prelude" off the Memoirs Album...and yes its incredible. She has a song called its a wrap on that album where she opens up with the incredible whistle combo. check both out when you have a chance. Hell the entire album technique wise is brilliant. Duh it mariah
I just stumbled into this vlog and I was amazed how you analyzed each notes, techniques, phrase, etc. But what is that Mariah doesn't think like this, I guess she just think of certain sounds in her head and then try to produce that sound with her voice.
Actually this legendary vocal 'performance' was in fact a true, witty tribute to Miss Patti, as most of the vocal runs and inflections are directly copied off Patti's original. This of course is the ultimate compliment, as MC displays her amazing skills and virtuosity as a vocal mimic. If MC was an actress then this would be like Cicely Tyson doing Miss Jane Pittman!! Vocally, her performance in this tribute is that good.
I would be very happy to have that happen. I really love when the artists say something about the video. It's happened a handful of times, but never with Mariah.
29:33 "she's a human being....." *there are many options to end this sentence i.e: she's just unlike the rest of us mere human :D this is one of my all time fave of Mariah's live performance. She said she didn't like it tho. I wonder why that's the case but she's always so hard on herself. Thank you for your great in depth review always.
[Edited comment after someone corrected the original comment for me] Mariah actually has a different song with the chorus lyrics " How I wish you only knew," and I got excited thinking maybe you found a live version of that other song. This song is called "if onlyyou knew" just a switch of order. You can edit the title
@@milanpop16 Yes! You are right. Weird. My original comment is off. Idk why I was thinking that. I guess because she says, "How I wish YOU ONLY KNEW". I'll fix my comment. The order of the words in the title in this video is indeed switched, but it's not a different song's title. I musta been sleepy on the day i wrote that

Love Mariah n I love your detailed observations! Have you ever heard Floor Jensen? She's insanely good too, she mixes classical with contemporary singing so well, I would love to see you reacting to her performance of Ghost Love Score by Nightwish. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JYjIlHWBAVo.html, I love their first vocalist Tarja Turunen too, also classicaly trained but sings mostly classical.
