EDIT! I completely missed his high harmonies that come and go throughout the choruses until I was playing this back, and I'm not going to re record the whole react for it, but listen for them! They're a great balance between head mix and head voice. He maintains that mix tone keeping it strong. That's more of the Jimin I was expecting. Enjoy!😊
Thank you for the honest reaction. The lyrics are deep and yes, Jimin wrote them. I think he is using the auto tune strictly as an artistic choice as the different voices represent the different parts of him.
Yes you get it!! Not sure why a few reactors not embracing the newer sound in some parts!!! There is a difference in using auto tune to create a new sound💜
one of the best and honest reaction i've seen so far...you've done great in analyzing his vocals in this song and the use of autotune and vocal processing he used to support his voice to produce the impact he wants fo the song
Jimin is credited as the songwriter and composer for this song, but it was produced by the Big Hit in-house producers. This song sounds like ON, Black Swan and Lie mixed together and I actually like the darker vibe of this song. The auto-tune threw me off at first because it was just new to me, but the more I listened to it the more I liked it. Currently my 3rd fav solo from him...3rd from Lie and Serendipity.
Thank you for your reaction! I love Jimin's unique voice and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.. He did receive some criticism for his use of vocal effects on this song. Clearly he wanted to send a message here and saying f-off in the delicate singing voice we are used to was not going to cut it. I love the song myself. It's a mood. He is so versatile. He really does have range but in the group takes the higher parts, so we don't get to hear it much. 💜
Thanks for all the explanation about the pitch correction and vocal processing. As a classical singer, I don't understand it much, but I find it interesting. I've done a fair amount of choral recording between high school, university, and a semi professional choir, but the only part I can connect to this is how hard it is to be exactly on every single take. I wish we could have used auto-tune. He does seem angry. I'm curious how this will fit in with the rest of the album when it comes out next week. He's definitely telling his haters to F off, as he should. He has a lot of people who love him, but he also receives a ridiculous amount of hate and criticism. I'm so proud of him for being so bold in his solo debut. Seeing how each of the members of BTS are handling their solo stuff before they enlist in the military has been so interesting and I can't wait to see what they have in store for us.
Even in choirs we have the voices around us to even out pitch discrepancies. You also tend to have reverb added to choirs, or natural reverb from a hall or church sized space which also increases our overtones and benefits the way soundwaves reflect off our surroundings. Reverb is that slightly echoey sound that gives an angelic effect to choirs. It is another tool that is often used in vocal processing, though not so much with kpop at the moment. 😊 Keeping things the same every take is very very difficult. You have to match every breath, every placement, every release the same or it won't work for layering. Some artists might use the same take and layer them ever so slightly off time and panned widely to give the layered effect but maintain the vocal quality. I agree, I feel like this song is saying I'm free from constraints of a label telling him what to make, free of keeping up the gentlemanly image that BTS had with dynamite era, free from the industry and how society perceives him. That's just my take on it. I feel like the members didn't get to express themselves in their 20s much as so much music is written for artists, not often did they have creative control, so I'm really interested to see what they're all going to put out there. That's my take on it anyway, obviously I could be completely wrong, but that's the great thing about art. Everyone will interpret it how they want. 🙃
@@vtstudio173 among the members I think Jimin is the least or who rarely goes against the flow...i'm curious how the rest of the songs will show his desire to be free
@@vtstudio173 I'd just like to point out that while Jimin doesn't have as many writing credits as some of the other members, all 7 of them have had a lot of freedom when it comes to their music. Both as BTS and as soloist. The fact that they write most of their own songs is what made and continues to make BTS different from others in the kpop industry. Jimin even went to RM for help with writing the lyrics for his song Promise. Their label pretty much insisted from the beginning that they put their own stories into their lyrics and gave them the freedom to do it.
@@bethj9998 interesting, I'd heard different, but I haven't looked into it much if I'm honest. In general with labels songs are written and pitched to an artist and their team to decide which ones are appropriate and in keeping with the theme of the album. This is often the case across all pop industry labeled globally. The artist may be a part of the writing, but many aspects of the songs are written by others, and producers change the sound massively when it comes to electronic music, there can be several writers on a single track. Then you have lyricists and then finally the singers. Who did what on a track when we refer to credits is not usually stated, they may have their roles stated, but in terms of who contributed how much to a part of a song is not. Like I said, I haven't looked into it specifically with BTS.
I like how he was experimenting with rap clearly influnced by his rap members as with all his past solo songs have mostly been soft and delicate while this song sounds aggressive in how forceful his voice sounds here
I think that BTS' lowest point of music as art vs commercialism was Permission to Dance, and here with Set Me Free Pt 2 Jimin has performed the epitome of music as art. If there will be any non-classical music considered as still masterful after decades, I think this will be. 𝘈𝘳𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘢, 𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘢 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘴
Permission to Dance was much much more than you characterize it to be. When I saw that video of the deaf and blind girls dancing and signing to it, I realized that this was one song that reached out to audiences that most commercial and artistic music ignore. I went to a local park that was hosting a fair then out of the blue permission to dance blast out from the DJs booth unexpectedly. Some people actually stood up in the field and begun to dance. Even though I'm sure most couldn't catch onto the words, It just felt like a happy dance with a catchy tune. and that was alright.
Love your analysis of Jimin's voice and production choices. Your thought on him using the more robotic autotune at the beginning to convey him breaking free from being controlled is spot on. I really love the ferocity of Jimin's vocal in this song. His determination to be free was clearly portrayed by this song and video.
If you really want to hear Jimins voice look up Like Crazy live acoustic version. He was on a show 1. April where he made us hear the beauty of his voice
Hii. Jimin dropped his full album last 24th and i hope you can give a reaction to it. I always love your commentaries and i think that you really have great inputs on jimin's vocal qualities. The album has three other tracks - Like Crazy (titletrack), Alone and Face Off (B-sides and a hidden track, Letter. Letter is not on Spotify but only on physical cds but there are lyric videos on youtube. Looking forward to you hearing it ❤

Thank you for you review Guys don’t forget to stream the songs on all music platforms 🚨 US/PR Armys please continue buying the song and asking for funds! If we want Jimin to have a better position on Billboard Top 100 we need to do way better!!Thank you 😊
I haven't heard your comments yet but am sure this is not what you expected. He was trying to doing things that were totally different to express his emotions from Covid. This was quite unusual as it is not often he focuses mostly on his lower range.
Sinceramente para Jimin en mi elección prefiero las baladas, su voz es hermosa sin la necesidad de autotune o efectos, pero como dicen todo fue por elección de estética.
We know he can sing. He IS using auto tune as texture, to increase severity, coarseness. If you listen to the album from top to bottom you will hear a progression of his story, and not take it out of context. Leave the auditory colorings alone. With all due respect.
If you watched it, you'd have heard me say he used it deliberately for effect to convey meaning to the song that assists the being set free topic.of the song. Please don't put words in my mouth. When doing vocal analysis I won't ignore sounds and production effects added to the vocals because it's a part of it some people may be interested in. Thanks for your time, maybe rewatch and hear what I actually said about the use of autotune in this song 😊
