This song was dedicated to Mark Jansen (Epicas founder) grandmother who passed away while they were recording Design Your Universe album, 2009. “Mark’s grandmother was a very important figure for the whole band”, Simone Simons (singer) says. “Her house was our rehearsal space from the beginning of Epica. She always greeted us with a smile and made sure we had everything we needed.”

Thanks for the analysis! Simone has improved A LOT in those 10 years. You should check Tides of Time live in 2020 and see how much she improved! :)

I wish there was an "official live" version of this song. Have seen now New York, Los Angeles and Utrecht and all in all Utrecht is maybe the best overall. Los Angeles is good at the beginning but the sound gets really bad in the end. In the end i think i will still listen to the album version because this is one of my favorite songs, since i'm more a Simone fan than an Epica fan.

This is such a beautiful song but it’s one of the few Epica’s song that are much better in the studio version to get the full emotional experience. Anyhow Simone is an amazing vocalist and this performance is definitely not representative. Try any of Epica’s official live videos and see.

@@seboepican4344 But all those mobile recorded versions mostly sucks in the end when the song gets the full power, at least non of the ones i saw so far come really close to the studio version simple because the mobiles can't handle the full dynamic in the end. Or do you know i good version ? @@beldin2987 the video in the reaction doesnt have great overall sound quality either and since this person reacts to the *vocals* and not to the video quality it doesn't do it justice. Which was all I was saying.

at the start shes asking if the audiance has all bought sunscren creme for this weeknd ( pinkpop fest is 3 days ) no one says yes, so shes sayingt hat after the festival the audiance will be with red heads on the couch from standing in the sun for 3 days. shes announcing the song, and that her mother and familly is in the audiance, song starts. The band Epica are from the netherlands, they are huge in South America and very populair in the underground metal scene, because of the symphonic music they create, if you wish to go down the Epica rabbit hole i suggest you try the essence of silence live, 6 minute songs and basicly the essence of Epica

I like Natalia because SO many other voice coaches interrupt a song like 20 times... Natalia is a listener and then comments.. And thats the way it should be.. She puts music first and then takes all the time to comment

It's completely understandable that it's hard to balance the head and the chest registers especially if you're singing a whole set of songs , it appears that she focused more in her belting than head voice, another thing is that a singer sometimes would put the mic further from himself due to feeling insecure in his voice.

She has improved since. The entire band is AMAZING! Simone has ONE single problem here, just that she could not project while she was that high up in her head voice. Otherwise, it's so awesome!

that was a very mellow Epica song not the best song to judge Epica by Epica is a metal band that also has Orchestras and Backing singers also they have performers check out Epica Chasing The Dragon or Consign to Oblivion.

I think Simone became so much better over time,check herrecnt performances and songs. Epica's song are ussuallly heavier than this one, and the guitar player( Mark Jansen) does a lot of singing with his growls too. I also love Simone's work in the last Ayeron work. Transitus. It would be great a reaction to "Daniel descends into Transitus-medley" wher she plays the angel of death

Worst choice to react to a band like Epica. First because the mixing of almost all Festivals Sucks. Second, because this song is a beautiful balad but it doesn't represent Epica as a whole. Epica es SOOO MUCH MORE. I also noticed that in this period, Simone's voice was not at her best, at all. Even in the album you hear she's not at the top of her range ( TQE album I mean in songs like the endind of Chemical Imsomnia for example). She has improved notoriously since then. I would recommend you to react to songs like Design Your Universe, live Retrospect, Unchain Utopia live, The essence of Silence official live, or Stabat Mater Dolorosa live feat Floor Jansen where she goes completely opera.

I don’t think Simone needs to be critiqued by you. Who are you anyway ..Lol I’ve heard them live and when you sound better live than on album you know how could they are. Bring absolute tears to your eyes. This was clearly an “off” performance.try reacting to their live performances from the retrospect concert with the orchestra etc. If that doesn’t blow you away and show you the incredible voice she has, than you really need to stop doing reaction videos, because you don’t know wtf you’re talking about. You could learn from her. Don’t think she is gonna take notes from you lol
