Refer to my comments on Dimash Daybreak on this channel for some context to this post. So yes, so now I heard Sandy Lam at last. So I enjoyed her approach of storytelling with that very controlled breathy tone. And she has a nice chest and head voice. I loved the ending. So gentle and beautiful. She is beautiful. And her character shines through her performance. I like that. The audience would have liked that. So the big question. Is she BETTER than Dimash? I suppose one performance doesn't necessarily give enough information, but of course I would think NO at this stage. Thank you for reacting to her. I am glad you did. If you didn't, I would possibly have continued indefinitely as having her as my unexplored mystery who managed to beat Dimash. PS: And oh, I generally prefer female vocalists too.
Did Dimash sing “HELLO” better than Lionel Richie? How about Dimash vs Celine singing TITANIC? Dimash would win if the songs are only judged on vocal range & versatility but his versions of those songs are NOT “better” than the original classics. Sandy Lam is a legendary singer in Chinese music so her songs connected with her Chinese fan base to edge out Dimash to win and make him 2nd place. It’s worth noting that Dimash has never won any singing competition outside of Kazakhstan. But clearly Dimash still won the hearts of millions of Chinese fans and those Chinese fans are what catapulted him to global fame.
@@bash547 It's really hard to beat such a good story telling singer like Sandy Lam, she's been in the music business for decades and her experience really shined in The Singer. I think her version of Faye Wong's song was much better than the original, but, there's a few she did that I think are better than the original versions. Dimash is vocally elite and I love his version of Late Autumn (initially the only song from this show I was interested in before checking out Sandy Lam's performances). However, at the time of this show, no, Dimash wasn't better than Sandy Lam.
She has been a successful top notch Cpop singer for a long time . Glad she won The Singer 2017 season . She has class. Her delivery is impecable exquisite and flawless. She doesnt have to smash n scream the highest notes thro the ceiling like some classical trained singer to be a great legendary pop singer.
Sandy is a consistent performer. All these Chinese shows use seasoned performers (no off the streets). Terry Lin is another, I call him a singer's singer. She is a master of breathy singing. I have learned from starting to follow Dimash, that we don't need to know the words to enjoy the musicality...and the Asians and Russians mostly use orchestras and this Singer orchestra is tops, as is their sound and lightning. My favorite singer from the 2017 Singer contest (next to Dimash) Is Terry Lin. I just love everything he sings. If you don't know Terry Lin you should check out any of his performances. He sings flawless English so there are a lot of English songs he sings that you would recognize.
Sandy Lam… amazing sounds come out of this petite person. She is definitely all pro & such a captivating performer. Her concerts really showcase her authentic talent.

In this show Sandy is one of the celebrity tutors, where she got challenged by a novice/amateur singers to sing one of four random songs and has to perform in the next 3 hours. Hi Andy !! Sandy has a beautiful voice, she performed a lot of great performances on this China show. Many think that Dimash only faced a talentless singer in China, but it is not true. When I decided to watch the full The Singer, I had seen all of Dimash's performances, but I decided to see it, listen to its competitors and was surprised by great talent, beautiful voices and Sandy Lam was one of those. You can react to Terry Lin (beautiful voice and excellent English) he is from Taiwan and a great friend of Dimash to this day and the singer Tia Ray also has a beautiful voice. @@marileiadesouza6995 the members of the super vocal group in The SINGER show were Ju Hongchuan, Zheng Yun Long , Ayunga and Cai Chengyu . One of them Zheng Yun Long left after 3 episodes into the competition as he had other work engagements.

Note : need to state Ayunga is from Inner Mongolia bcos there is Outer Mongolia and unlike Inner Mongolia , Outer Mongolia is not part of China. Outer Mongolia is therefore another country.
If you were an audience who watched the show every week, you might have ideas about how these singers were rated. Those singers were at different ages and had received different types of vocal training. You would no longer compare the hight notes made by young singers to old singers, or something like that, after maybe the fourth episode. The audiences tended to give points based on how these singers chose the skills they use in a song, rather than based on how advanced or modern the vocal training these singers had received. Sandy, an over-50-year-old singer, has received some vocal training in the past that might seem somewhat "outdated" now. However, she is always willing to try new-styled songs and manage to give the best performance she can do each time she stands on stage. And that's why she is a so famous singer in China.
Sandy Lam is one of the most popular singers in HK. She was also chosen to be one of the main charters by Jacky Cheung who created the first musical in HK called "Snow Wolf Lake' which never released to the world on video. When Andrew Lloyd Webber had a musical performance in China, He chooses her to be one of the singers to sing his song there. She used to be just a DJ from a radio in HK a long time ago and she later becomes a singer and learns her singing skills from overseas. She worked so hard to became who she is now.
nanyanguo1 I am from Hong Kong. All I know originally her family are from Shanghai but she lives in HK since she was young and worked as a DJ in a radio station in Hong Kong and she went to the states later on to learn singing. That’s the information I know. If you are one of her fans, maybe you will know her background better than me. I think she stayed in Taiwan it is because of her husband before but that was after she becomes a popular singer in HK.

Another series you might enjoy is Super Vocal where they took 36 professional male singers opera/musical and pop and over 13 weeks they competed for six principal places. Ayunga from that show is my Idol some other favourites Cai Chengyu a fabulous voice at 20yrs old, Zheng Yunlong, Ma Jia, Yu Di. So many talented people. I could go on but I won't. She and Dimash gave each other a run for their money. Even with an audience packed with her fans, she barely beat him. Actually all the contestants on The Singer are very good.
It's not really about winning, staying on the show as long as possible is important. Via HunanTV, the artists reach tens of millions viewers week after week. Important advertising on such a huge market.

I think she knew if not before but after Adagio that he was the one she was going to have to beat and would have to give her all to do it. Since I knew nothing about The Singer show until Dimash, I can only go by what I heard on the show.
Sandy Lam is the famous singer from Hong Kong. She is famous for her soft voice and delicate emotions. She doesn't need to show off her skills too much, her voice is already intoxicating. This is the first I've listened to her. She has a beautiful voice and I really enjoyed her. But actually, by listening to a really good singer it makes me realize even more how extremely talented and unique Dimash is!

@@mcan9074 Normally I'd agree with you about no one singer is better than another(to a certain degree artistically speaking), however, this was a competition, so naturally one would compare the singers on the show. She sounds great, there's just nothing striking about her. She sounds like an average,great female singer. Once a person hears Dimash sing, their whole perspective on music changes. It's kind of like, there are great dancers, but there was something about Michael Jackson that was on another level. Same thing with Michael Jordan. There are shining stars in all forms of art. I mean the show is called "The Singer". I'm sorry but if anyone deserves that title, it's Dimash.

when she was new, everyone complained her about her terrible singing. so we would say she is a hard working singer instead of born with the talent. she shows us that we can be very good eventhough we are not the talented one.

i cant agreed more, they are in different level. But this is a show a competition,as what the productor explained to Dimash ,if audience just listen to your performance quietly you wont have chance to stay. I cant accept the result but I do agreed it's fair enough. This is the show not about how good you are but how many vote you can get from aidience. Sandy Lam is a famous singer in Hongkong and China for over 30years but Dimash is zero reputation inChina bfr the Singer show.
