Master of Voice, a lot of people won't agree with me, especially SoHyang fans, but while I did love her vocal showcase on this just like you did, which makes me love this video, this arrangement of the song while being fun, creatively musical and all of that, really doesn't do any justice to the beauty of the usual song. I noticed that the contestants on Immortal did not do songs without giving them a unique arrangement that would usually require a choir and full band. Some good work on that show for sure. P.S. Have you listened to Park KiYoung? Her and SoHyang are like the two slightly famous singers from the show that are soprano voice types.
This performance isn't even in my personal top 5 favorite performance of Sohyang. But, she's having fun and flexing her skills here. From the start, going in and out her HV/CV/Miz repeatedly with absurd ease. Her mastery is beyond ridiculous. Insane stamina and support too. I was like "How are you still breathing let alone belting?" I felt like I was running out of breath first before her, just from watching 😂 .
Sohyang actually has a lot to do with the arrangements of the songs. In her words....Her, the conductor and the musicians all happily collaborate in the arrangement of the songs In The immortal song competitions, They choose songs from a certain artist for that particular show. In this case it was Michael Bolton. Lean On Me is one of the songs he does in his shows and so that's why Sohyang picked this song. BTW....You would be better off pronouncing her name like Soyoung. All by herself. So Hyang always makes the arrangement herself because she always makes the song her own. She is a gospel singer so you can hear the influence of the gospel in her arrangement.

If you are looking looking for another male Korean singer to react to, pls check out Kim Jin Ho Family Portrait. His style of singing is so different from other guys, yet so soothing and beautiful. Of course my #1 is Sohyang and my favourite song is Dear Love. Her Korean songs in my opinion are better than her English songs. Actually Moon Myung Jin was on first, and he was the first standing O Michael gave. On the other extreme there are a couple of songs form King of Masked Singers where she just had fun: Mona Lisa and Day Day. Rock and kinda pop rap respectively. Lots of others too.

I love Sohyang. I think she's the best singer around at the moment even though there are people like Dimash with an even wider range, and people like Morissette who are so technically gifted with voices that are really warm and soothing (ESPECIALLY Morissette)...but this particular performance is my least favourite of all the most popular Sohyang performances because one thing I love about her is her and which sets her above other great singers is her avoidance of vocal gymnastics for the sake of vocal gymnastics, and this song is a bit of an exception in that respect. I guess every singer has to have at least one song where they just go nuts with all the runs and everything, and this is hers, so I understand why people like it for the "wow" factor, but I much prefer all the other fan favourites because they're so much more powerful emotionally whereas this one's just a fun showcase of what she can do. Which is all good. Not sure what my point was really. Honestly I did not like this arrangement when I first heard it though it did grew on me a little over time. It's her most technical song (aside from "Everyone") and the song she spent a lot of time with to practise register transitions. It's vocally very impressive obviously, but did not really have an impact on me emotionally. Thank you for your reaction! Truth to be said, this episode of Immortal Songs was amazing. Every singer tried to put their colors to Michael Bolton's songs. I recommend especially 'How am I supposed to live without you' (by Moon Myung Jin), 'Completly' (by Lena Park) and 'A love so beautiful' (by Seo Ji Ahn). I think you will enjoy these ones, and the rest of the show, very much 😊😉!
I was kinda just nodding aggressively the whole time to basically everything you said just going mhm mhm yup she is a queen! A song that she performs that I love is a cover of "Hug Me" for King of Masked Singer There is also... there's a compilation made by the channel that produces that show of all of her full performances while competing on the show just lumped into one video. It's kind of long, though, and it would probably be easiest to just look into individual performances! I'll link that compilation, a version from the show itself of her performing "Hug Me" and a performance of "Hug Me" she did of that song for an anniversary (i think) event for that show I'll link them as a reply to my own comment though!
