Thanks for reacting to this beautiful rendition of an old classic Irish pub song. It is now my favorite, although the only other one I've heard was in the early 70s performed by The Irish Rovers. There are quite a few different story elements involved resulting in a significant difference in consequence, which I rather prefer. Not so devastating! The Irish Rovers actually have music on RU-vid and are celebrating 60 years this year. Fun group!

This is a traditional Irish folksong about a highway man robbing a military officer and being betrayed by the woman he loves, ending up in jail. The "musha" word is the actually the Irish word "muise" and is an exclamation of "well" or "indeed," and is followed by the Irish equivalent of scat singing - it's all nonsense verbiage. "Whack for my daddy-o" would be said while holding up the jar of whiskey, essentially saying "Here's a shot for me" Geoff sings an F1 chest - a new low for him.

And VP just takes another U-turn to another genre and... nails it. It is so difficult to do and yet here we are. Love this version. Thank you for your reaction! Subscribing in the hope of more VP soon... CHEERS! 🥃🥃🔥

Whiskey in the Jar is a song about a notorious Irish highwayman Patrick Fleming who was hanged in 1650, has become one of Ireland’s most beloved songs, a true rebel air that stirs the passions. This song has been covered by Thin Lizzi and Metallica and many others. This is so beautiful. When it came out on Patreon, I had to some research on it, but I love how they made it their own and still showed respect for the original.

Great reaction- thanks! Omar was never a formal member of Voice Play but has been a frequent guest so we think of him like Voice Play extended family (he is Cesar's best friend and former roommate , from Orlando Florida, also worked for Disney). Omar will be traveling to Atlantic City, New Jersey this month with Voice Play to perform with the band, Chicago.

Omar hasn’t been a member of the group, but he does collaborate a lot with them. It’s J None that used to be a member, and now he’s collaborating a lot with them.

There are many versions of this traditional Irish song and the one that I remember best is by Thin Lizzy that was released in 1973. Great reaction to this cover, they never disappoint. 🎶🌟🎶

Loved this one, too, and with the lyrics, for me it was just the same... I remember the song being in an old song book I had back at school, so I had a vague reminiscence of what it was on about, but listening to the actual song - this was the first time I understood the lyrics in detail. And I am not even a native speaker. But appart from that, the arrangement was awesom and VoicePlay killed it - again.

The original is a very old Irish ballad dating from at least early to mid 1600s. This is the best version I've heard but my favorite is my Irish great-uncle from when I was a kid singing it. I was sitting next to him at the bar in our house and I think now he was probably singing it to my dad for another glass of whiskey. The fact that VoicePlay did this brought back so many memories from over 60 yrs ago. I lost my Uncle George about 2 yrs from that day at the bar.

The original of this song is from the 1600s so it’s no wonder there are so many covers of it. Traditional Irish song about an infamous highwayman who was hung.

I think it was 1989, when I heard the song live by the Dubliners. And then the Pogues version ... It was so different and I quite prefer it sung and played the old Irish way. 😊 But I also like this rendition, if I take it without comparison.

Peter Paul and Mary did a version of it under the name Gilgarra Mountain. I don't remember hearing it, but I'm certainly old enough. I love story telling folk songs. This one is at least 400 years old. Voiceplay is just the best, everything they do is dynamite! You haven't reacted to their Wicked Medley. I haven't seen the show, but it didn't matter. And if you want to try another of their older pieces, they did a cover of Prince' Kiss that is wonderful!

I loved this version! I grew up on the Metallica version too and always liked it. But the story telling in VP’s version is fantastic. I’m glad you reacted to this one. 💛💛💛

I heard it by the Dubliners back in 1967 was only 13. Tin Lizzy did it in 1973 and was 19 by then. I have also heard The Irish Rovers cover that's really good. Never heard Metallicas' cover.

Irish and Scottish storytelling songs are generally depressing lol. The Irish Rovers cover was my favorite before this (because I love Celtic music) although I liked the Thin Lizzy version too. There are several versions of the song with Molly or Jenny turning the highwayman(narrator) over to the authorities depending on what they grew up hearing.
