At my advanced age, Geoff gives me HOT flashes. Who needs a defibrillator when you have a Geoff. This is like the 1979 movie The Warriors and them fighting their way from New York City to Coney Island. Geoff's weapon is a Sledgehammer.
Layne actually can go pretty low and occasionally contributes to the bass line, too. ETA: They _do_ apply some filters in post-production. Some of the electronic effects can't be replicated in a live performance (unless there's a way they can rig it to be applied in real-time, which I've seen them discuss before, but to date I don't believe they've actually done it) and once in a while they'll throw in a sound effect--for example, not in this video but in We Can't Talk About Bruno, they used a really well-known, recognizable sound clip as a hilarious surprise. But with a couple of exceptions which are very evident on-screen, there are no instruments, and virtually everything is based on their vocals/beatboxing/body percussion.
That first sound Layne made….totally a Transformer transforming. Which would explain a lot, lol! And yes, you need to hear their cover of Creep. Also, Geoff’s solo cover of Jack’s Lament from Nightmare Before Christmas if you haven’t seen it already. But I’m not sure you’ll survive that one.
Love this one, but the one they did for Halloween is incredible as well Hellfire (Hunchback of Notre Dame). Geoff's Halloween treat is Jack's Lament. So cool.
One of the many fantastic arrangements and executions of the year - and there have been many. They were all amazing here. They are not scared taking on new genres - and I am here for it. 🏆
I really want one track (or more) with The Bass Gang, Tim Foust, Geoff, and Eric Holloway all hitting as deep as they can. I want to see how many reactors, speakers, and laptops that would destroy.
I came to clarify as well, but someone already did. They do use filters in post to create an effect on the voice. The original sound is all vocal, but they do tweak timbre and resonance in post production.
Oh, you ain't heard nothing yet..! Try checking out some of their covers from 'Nightmare Before Christmas'..! Also, Geoff has his own channel, he started doing solo stuff when Covid hit, and stopped them touring - Sixteen Tons, Big Bad John. I See Fire and Misty Mountains Cold (from the Hobbit films)..! The lowest note he's hit (so far) has been a B0 in 'Halo' (and 3 of them in 'Valhalla Calling')! Subbed for more! This was filmed in an abandoned department store in Orlando, near their base - you might spot that they had to tape over some of the more 'adult' graffiti..! 😉
SO much of this is totally doable with a little practice. Used to compete in a competition choir. On 2-3 hour rides we did this kind of stuff with every song from the mid 90s.
