They went straight into the emotional heart of the song - something I haven't heard anyone else do. This one was arranged by Eli, making it an extra-special treat.
It is beautiful, and makes you feel all the emotions. To me, I think it brings the possibility that they want to change - to no longer be a creep. Geoff thought the mirror would add, and Cesar brought his in. Eli did the arrangement for this one (usually Geoff and Layne do each of the productions). Eli has taken on lighting, computer backgrounds, green screens and such.
I got a chuckle about your comment about Anthony looking and sounding like he was a member of a boy band in the '90s - because he was born in '99, so he was barely even alive in the '90s!
I'm very old, and did not know this song at all. After I heard Voiceplay, I checked out the original. No contest, Voiceplay wins, hands down. Voiceplay always pays homage to the original, but never do a cookie cutter copy of it. This is so moving. My favorite part was when they were singing the Run, Run, Run - Eli was "directing" the lights which moved with the music.
They did a completely different take to accentuate the emotional aspect of the lyrics. VP never do a like-for-like cover - they're not a karaoke band! The arrangement was something completely new. It was supposed to be introspective.
Ceasar does such a good job with his tone and facial expressions in the beginning in this. Really gives you the feels. Voiceplay came out with a new one recently you should check out too... 'Hellfire' from the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Geoff Castallucci also came out with his halloween one 'Jack's Lament' so so good
