Bass? Baritone? Tenor? Geoff doesn't care, he does it all. I've gathered some clips of Geoff playing around in his low, mid and high range, and also showing how agile he can be between his ranges.
All clips are found on VoicePlay's and Geoff's RU-vid channels

Everything he does is incredible but his Shenandoah always brings tears, it's so beautifull. And Tennessee Whisky was the first time I ever heard/saw him and fell totally in love with the man. :) Now I love the whole group of course, but he was the first. And you never forget your first.

Geoff's range and agility is absolutely amazing, and I almost feel like he sounds like different people depending on what part of his range he is in. I admire every inch (or should I say every half-inch 😉) of his range, but I especially love the smoothness of his mid-range, which is probably why my favorite of his is Shenandoah, because the baritone part shines so beautifully in that song ❤

@@huldradraco Exactly. He can real low and real high without effort. And from one to the other like he does it every day. He has the most soothing voice I've ever heard as well. His narrations help me relax when I lay down to rest or go to sleep.

10/11. WOW! 4 OCTAVES! ARE YOU SURE IT'S NOT 5 OCTAVES? EPIC
@johndeeregreen4592
@johndeeregreen4592 Год назад
Geoff is referring to his tessitura... his range that can be reproduced at-will and outside of a studio setting. His total range is over 5 octaves, but what he can be called on to use on a mic outside the studio is just a hair over 4 octaves. My total range is 7 octaves, 9 semitones... outside of a studio, this shrinks to E1-B5... or a hair over 4 octaves. Singing in a choir, this shrinks even more to about G1-B5.
@huldradraco
@huldradraco Год назад
in total, Geoff's range is just over 5 octaves, yes. But he was talking about his natural every day range. He wasn't counting subharmonics or growls, or other special techniques, and he wasn't counting notes that require a special time of day, or a rare day where his voice is lower or higher than normal, or after doing light trauma to his voice to get an extra low note. :-)
@johndeeregreen4592
@johndeeregreen4592 Год назад
@@huldradraco, exactly. And outside of a studio, VERY few people can do what Geoff does or reproduce a 4 octave range... in truth, the average vocal range outside a studio is only 1.8 octaves. And, of those who have larger ranges, surprise, surprise, the majority are low baritones or basses, which are rare to begin with.

@hulradraco. Another fantastic compilation.. I don't read music, play it or sing. But I know those letters and numbers mean he's extremely talented.. So glad he has a lovely wife who is able to share it all with him and between them put out this fabulous content.... P
@huldradraco
@huldradraco Год назад
Thank you :-) Yeah, the numbers are telling what octave he is in (0-2 roughly in bass, 3-4 roughly in baritone, 5-6 roughly in tenor) and some of them are quite impressive to be able to reach in your normal chest voice, or for a bass singer to be able to reach and reach well. Kathy is a huge support and help for Geoff, and for VoicePlay. She works her butt off, in addition to being an amazing mom. ❤💪

Another great video, Huldra! As good as that slide is in Queen In Five Minutes though, my favorite part is the evil laugh. Same thing in Enemy. A reactor recently pointed out something in 16 Tons I'd missed -- the smile from far right Geoff while lead Geoff does the "super dramatic bend to low F#." So fun.

I believe it was new reactor David K, who pointed that smile out, I'd missed it too. Having watched all of Geoffs & most of VP's videos dozens of times (at least), it amazes me how I could have missed anything, but then they do pack a whole lot of everything into all that they do! 🙂

Yeah, he did slide down to an A0 for a fraction of a second there. It doesn't count as a sustained note, and it's not the first time he's slid down to an A0 at the end of a big slide. But pretty cool 🙂

Also Geoff's claim of being a "baritone with a bass range" is even funnier/more absurd when you hear actual examples of him singing in baritone range (e.g. Shenandoah and In The Air Tonight) and it's distinctly a step higher than his typical singing register XD
@huldradraco
@huldradraco 5 месяцев назад
Very true. Though I do kinda understand why he feels that way, since he has a lot more power and flexibility in his baritone range. He hasn't had as much of that in his bass range, but I feel that's been getting better as well these past few years since he started up his solo channel. So I think that may just have been a lack of practice due to all his years mainly singing the bass lines for VoicePlay.

I can hit E1 in chest, C#1 in chest-fry, down to Eb0 with subharmonics, G negative one with pure fry, up to B4 in chest, E5 in head voice, C#6 in falsetto, to E7 with whistle notes, for a total range of 7 octaves, 9 semitones. Do you know what I can't do? Sing as well as Geoff... very few people can control their range at-will the way Geoff can.
