I think my favourite part is how much Geoff and Layne blurred the lines between the bass and percussion.... Geoff doing that gasp/breath and one other touch of percussion, Layne doubling the bass in at least one spot... yeah. Genius.

Eli is a voice actor so he can do all kinds of surprising things. Everyone was on top of their game on this one.

This is VoicePlay's 3rd post-apocalyptic video, Warriors and Dream On being the first two. According to the group, in those videos, the zombie hordes were just out of camera range while the guys sang to save themselves. Between the first two, both Earl and J. None were lost to the zombies, and they picked up Cesar and Omar along the way. However, by this time, they've all become the bad guys, so we're not 100% sure what happened to Omar... 😜 Also, many of the sort of techno sounds you're hearing are based on distorted vocals.

@@YBPlaysMusic Earl and J. None are no longer part of the group, though J. comes back as a guest occasionally. Omar was never part of the group, but has often collaborated with them.

Got my headphones and now I'm here again to hear VoicePlay and what you are reacting to! Thanks for the comment. When I was growing up, bats didn't sound like that. They were made out of wood. Cesar hit the G#5 in Dream On. He really wanted to do that! Ed Boyer does the final mix for them (as well as Home Free and Pentatonix). The dystopian trilogy is Warriors, Dream On and Seven Nation Army. What a piece of work! Listen to the 3 of them together. (You'll hear the first time Layne did violin (did it again 3 yrs later for Nothing Else Matters where Metallica did a guitar solo. Geoff had written a "guitar" solo for Layne at the last minute asked if he could do it on the violin - which gave Layne his second moniker, first was the Carrot Lord, and now he is also VioLayne.)

My headphones wouldn't put up any audio when I first heard VoicePlay's premiere Tried it twice and later in the afternoon it started working so I went back to VoicePlay's video. The difference that the headphones made was incredible. Then I went out looking for my reactors to get your feedback. Glad you brought a friend because it added to your reaction when you were talking to him. You can always bring him again! I can't believe that VoicePlay has stepped up their game so much in the last year or two and with the variety that they bring. Just when you think it couldn't possibly get any better they bring on something else. I don't think there is a group that can touch them now. Do give VP's Nothing Else Matters (Metallica), Valhalla Calling (Miracle of Sound who gave them 10 raised ale horns out of 10), Golden Hour (with Anthony G), In My Room (Beach Boys), In The Hall of The Mountain King (Edvard Grieg 1875) and Geoff's Sounds of Silence (Simon & Garfunkel), Til Then (Mills Brothers), Man of Constant Sorrow.

That high note from Anthony and then Eli in the middle I couldn’t tell where one ended and the other started. It’s like they passed the note from one to the other. Geoff outdid himself arranging this once again. Great reaction.

Eli did that with Cesar in Hoist the Colours, too (around 2:53) though it's less dramatic and pretty easy to miss. It took me a few watches to figure it out--he picked up the note so smoothly I would've thought it was still Cesar singing if I couldn't _see_ it was Eli. I'll bet there are other instances, if one were to look for them.

VP uses alot of distortion filters on some of their pieces, like this one. So, a capella in that all the originated sounds are vocal, but then they tech it in post.
