I have two Cobra stories. I was at a party in Grand Rapids, MI in the winter of 1967. One of the guys there was a Cobra pilot who was on medical leave. He was being treated for burns and was swathed in bandages. Looking at him made me very apprehensive as I was prime meat for the draft. I was on the Reaction Force at Long Binh in late Feb 69 and had been called out to the bunker line to fend off an attack. One of the many awe-inspiring sights I saw was a Cobra flying along the road in front of us. He was nose down with his mini gun rounds bouncing off that road and into the ditch on the other side. That image is burned into my brain. Along with Puff it was the most awesome sight I had ever seen.

A message for you Larry before I watch beyond the six and a half minutes I'm into the video. Congrats on the 48.9K subscribers. I've been watching your subscriber count over the last few months grow and, with the momentum that continues, 100K is not too far off. Good luck, and thank you so much for the pictures you've included at the start here. Some personal photos, and some pictures that have every appearance of our troops on patrol or in action. It's a reminder that the military has always been very good with documenting what they do, and at no small risk to those who have taken up the job. You are a part of this group, and we thank you for your service.

Many thanks Charles for your kind words. My work as a labor of love. Many people don't understand some of the reasons why I do what I do, like the salutes, that's my signature and trademark. I provide a very non-threatening environment for these veterans to open up and that's why they tell me things that they never told their family members. I thank my God that I can serve him and my country through the lens on my camera. God bless you!!

Thank you for your service Vic and for sharing your interesting and detailed Vietnam experience. I had never heard details and experiences from a Cobra pilot. Wow! It really made me feel good when you said how personal it was and much you cared for us down below. I was a grunt with the 1st Cav (1969) out of Quan Loi and Tay Ninh and it was always a good sight and sound to hear the Cobra come in. A couple of times I witnessed the green tracers go up at the gunship and the orange tracers go down and the roar of the mini-gun following the sight of the tracers as you were diving into the location of where the firing was coming from. You guys were the best! Thank You.

There have been quite a few videos that I really couldn't take my eyes and ears off of, this is one of them. I've not seen combat, but I did survive a brutal time with cancer. I've lost friends and still feel guilt as to why I made it and they didn't. Lately I can find no better comfort than listening to these men. I know it's odd but I feel like so many of the thoughts I couldn't put into words just appear in these videos and I feel understood for the first time in a while. When Vic said it was the greatest yet worst most thriling thing he's been through - I couldn't have said it better myself. There's an amazing high when you're so close to death and I haven't been able to feel that rush of myself in a while, since the cancer. It takes a lot of adjusting, especially when the world expects you to act normal and like it never happened. Of course it changed me. I was angry when I first started going through it, mellowed out, and then angry to be back to normal, then mellowed out again. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. I've got a sick sense of humor now and am missing some pieces of me but living just feels sweeter since then, sometimes. I've been listening to these for a while but haven't had the courage to comment, anyway, thank you for this interview and the many others.

Brother Nick, I just read your comment and I'm grateful that you did go ahead and share some thoughts. I hope many read it. It touched my heart. As the producer of this channel sometimes I wonder if I'm doing any good. Comments like yours help me stay focused and to continue sharing the stories. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing. Moderation is for cowards!!! Feel free to reach out. After 1000 interviews over 20 years I've become a great listener. God bless you!! WEBSITE: larrycappetto.com

IM CATCHIN UP Larry! Yeah, I always thought the Cobra's didnt come along till 72-73? Strange bird aint it? (I thought of the JETSONS when I saw MY 1st one?...lol) That crazy thing goes too fast for "WOP WOP"?..☺His overall attitude about why He was there, and reasoning for doing what HAD ta be done reminds me so much of another Vet, bout 6 mo. ago ,who was the picture of GREAT mental health.😎 Ive seen 150+ of these interviews and the overall consensus (95%) for being there was justified and a noble cause. OF COURSE there were PROTESTS? Hell... Americans were killin their BELOVED COMMIE BRETHEREN?..They PROUDLY displayed the NVA flag , along with the good ole hammer/sickle, in support for KHRUSHCHEV during their marches? They ALL woulda PROUDLY posed with HJ on the triple A battery with her?...Hope things are goin well for ya Vic, and your still up in the wild blue yonder! Thanks MUCH for your sacrifice !😎

@49:17 - I am to young to give an answer on why America wasn’t behind Vietnam, like WWII BUT I think we felt the war here at homein ww2 !! we suffered and sacrificed in every family;daily,in many aspects of life in general and collectively! We witnessed hardships at home and abroad, we associated the war with a cowardly attack and it all brought us to unity; in the Nam media, technology misinformation disinformation and political and personal agendas both intentionally and unintentionally sewed discord in our lives and Society wasn’t mature or responsible enough to handle it and our Heroes are the ones that suffered. And it’s a crying shame. I hope we as a nation doesn’t allow this to happen again and I believe we have matured as a nation and learned! Thank you 🙏 soldier’s for providing and protecting FREEDOM at home and abroad and we will stand with you from now on weather we feel like it or understand it and we will hold your commander in chief and congress responsible for their part and each person for his; and we shall hold ourselves accountable for how we respond, react to the situations that life thrust us into so help us GOD

I really like Mr Meisinger and I appreciate the sacrifice that our veterans made but it’s come out that we got into Vietnam under a lie - we started the war - see the facts on the Gulf of Tonkin scrape. Second thing, LBJ, the president during most of the Vietnam war, it’s come out that although he did some good things for America, he became filthy rich giving kickbacks to the munitions industry and other industry supplying our military - he prolonged the war so that he and his cronies could become rich. He may have been the prime mover behind the Kennedy assignation, also. Do your homework, folks. The Vietnam war, under the guise of fighting Communism was mostly a money making scheme by a select few and that’s a very sad situation.
