If we want birds to persist we need to study them. Know where they're going to, and from, and where they stop over so we can protect those areas. Getting data with transmitters and bands is a simple and non-invasive way to do that. You may think it is invasive but it's designed to not harm the birds. Scientists are not stupid, they test this stuff to make sure it isn't harmful. The birds still migrate, make it to their destination, nest and feed properly, and it only lasts a season.

Just seeing your comment,@@nikolaslastname9480. Banding and netting is not non-invasive. And scientists have done some nasty experiments in the name of research and data collection. I don't think I need to list all of the atrocities committed in the study of species of animals (including human animals) to make a point, so we will have to agree to disagree. We already know how to protect the areas that the birds travel to and from, and we ought to put our efforts into protecting their habitats instead of trap, band and release. Take care.

@@cynthiahughes271 / Agreed, I detest the netting and harassing of migratory birds in the name of science. Site protection habitat protection is the prime objective, weighing and tagging birds is mostly feel-good bullsh!t at this point very frustrating

We forget that humans and our scientific projects are not key to the birds' existence. Habitat protection, yes. All the best to you.

I think it is supposed to be the voices from both. Here you hear migratory birds and the communities that live beside them on the Pacific Flyway, which made them part of their lives and their culture and help protecting them. Sorry you were disappointed but this seems a well made documentary, I think you are missing the true message pf the video. Also, where the fuck is politically correct in this video? Seeing politics everywhere I don't think is normal, especially when is this toxic

@@franz.isler799 The video shows the scale of bird migration and how important they are to different cultures. Their goal is to get viewers to care about the conservation of these birds by giving them a reason to. Where do politics come into play here? Is caring about birds limited to a specific party?

The video is typical of the ilk Cornell Lab is well known for by now...it's now more like the study of people and how they react to the disappearance, the migration and their differing reaction to bird behavior. Instead of Ornithology, it's now more like sociology, at the same time pandering to cultures....typical of the style of today's US academia. If an organization is really into birds and ornithology---stick to pure ornithology. There are many of us who doesn't want to hear the prattle and dawdle of people's reactions to this and that. But because of Cornell's eagerness (and the greediness) to gather/ financial support and resources, their tactic now is to place people into the center of ornithology instead of birds....a typical ploy of libtard institutions. Cornell needs to define again the true meaning of ornithology otherwise it is no longer the discipline it once was...well, at least in the desire of and the leaning to embrace the cheap, the lousy substandard inadequacy of US institutions...a hallmark of US culture nowadays!
