The silence lets you know you truly fucked up lmao. I remember my first time going there (on purpose, just to see what it was like) and getting the PDA warning, then immediately speeding back where I came from. The second time I accidentally went into the zone, I didn't get a PDA warning, and I couldn't figure out why I was so uneasy until I stopped speeding ahead and saw nothing around , then realized there wasn't any music and knew I fucked up. I tried to turn around, but it was too late by then.
@NotARealChannel I was trying to get to the crystal caves for the first time, just having bought the game, I kept going down and then it just goes silent and not to mention the void chelicerae are massive
I did that on subnatica 1 and panicked hard freaking core, lost my seamoth but survivd. What made it worse was that i got turned around a little in my panicked which is why i lost my seamoth.
I had that experience with the cryptosuchas. I thought they were a little bigger than the player, until one got stuck inside of a room in the Mercury and the scale made it obvious that they're actually like 25 feet long
Subnautica screws with your perception of how big things are Did you know that Stalkers are 18 feet long or about the length of a average great white shark
IKR. You don’t understand how big they are when your in your sub or just on your own. What is it that makes everything look small until you see it in comparison to stuff
You know what scares me most about the void? Its not the creatures that we see, but the fear of other nonseeable creatures. Bigger, scarier, deadlier.......
Fun fact : In the first game of subnautica , when you reach the dead zone and the PDA gives you the data about the void , it says "Microscopic and leviathan lifeforms" Meaning that apart from ghostleviathans there are other leviathans , and this can be seen in below zero.
@Mɪᴋᴇ what's even scarier is that when they said microscopic, they might have been talking about the ghost leviathans. Which would mean *_theres something much larger than the ghosty bois_*
The theme is so nightmarish like how would you even stay there. That’s a living hell and not to mention the pure anxiety from the pool that you have 😂😂
imagine doing a house tour of these bases to someone who hasn’t played just like “welcome to my base, these lots of room, a nice view…” “oh, those screams of the giant fish demon? yeah, that’s just Dave.”
I can imagine a horror mod for this. You discover a previously built observatory near the Void. Little by little you start to wonder why and who built this place. Towards your eventual discovery of the reason why, the base is under attack by the very creatures surrounding the base and have to escape to the only rundown but still operable seatruck.
*Player dips in the water* Chelicerates: OI THIS IS OUR TERRITORY GET OUTTTTTT *Player gets out of the water* Chelicerates: What were we thinking right now?
"Hello and welcome to the 'I have a death wish' observatory. We are currently in the void and expect to die horribly, however thanks to the game breaking technology of Subnautica, we are safe for no sensible reason whatsoever"
the bit that gets me is always how they're so massive and yet they can seemingly move away just a little bit and be completely obscured by darkness, like damn something that big should not be able to sneak up on anyone, it just shouldn't be allowed
@@grimreaper6896 Yep it's a Two Towers quote, the original context was that an orc wanted to kill the captured hobbits to eat them but the Uruk leader had directives from Saruman to keep them alive, so they got into a fight and the Uruk cut off the other orc's head, after which everyone started feasting on the body of the dead orc instead
If you look at the start you can see corridors along the dead zone with reinforcements (including the multipurpose room I go through at the start) along with reinforcements in the corridors when I descend from the 62m observation tunnel. These are only briefly seen as the focus is to show the section in the abyss but this was done on survival.
@@CrankyTemplar there is not way, how did you manage to build it while this things tried to kill you?, probably died so many times because this bastards are annoying as hell.
Imagine just having a nice nap in your totally safe and secure underwater base, and waking up to see a whole ass leviathan swimming through your walls 🔥🔥
While technically true, I doubt they would get much bigger than they are. The larger they grow the more energy they require and the longer it takes to molt. There comes a point when massive size becomes more harmful than helpful. That's why lobster never get gigantic, the could grow forever, but they either get killed first, starve, or die during molting.
They have 2 or 3 in game sizes Juveniles in the lost river and maybe bigger and older ones in the blood kelp zone, and then adults in the void which are definitely bigger and harder to scan
@@hippieskye8794according to deep sea gigantism, it's postulated that larger life forms are more energy efficient. Not to mention ghost leviathans are filter feeders which is is a very efficient means of feeding.
@@louiesatterwhite3885 Well, but the PDA said that the Ghost Leviathans of the Dead Zone are close to the maximum size at which life can be sustained, so they probably won't grow much more, because they will do so very slowly, let's not forget that they can't get bigger than a Sea Dragon because they are the largest predator on the planet.
These things coming out of the murk with mandibles outstretched and that low rumbling is way more terrifying than even ghosts screaming as they charge. They are watching. They are waiting.
Yeah. With the Ghost Leviathans, they are bioluminescent so you will see them coming from afar. With the Void Chelicerates, you don’t have that same comfort of knowing what’s coming.
I know right! The pov makes the scale seem super off, like in Subnaticua when I was super close to it the Reaper seemed about the same size as the Ghosts 🤣 in BZ the Cryptosuchi looked about the same size as the Chelicerates up close as well
I really want to know why they... look.... zombified. Out there in the void. The real wiki explains nothing of this if you didn't get jebaited into the fake wiki first. In Subnautica, the ghost leviathans also appeared in areas other than the void, so it sort of made sense that they were just a different species that had different habitable niches. But... The music coupled with these things... What are these things? Its horrifying and such a far cry from the void in the original Subnautica. The way their skin is peeling off... And how their eyes are yellow and cataracted. What if this is like, some kind of fungal zombie infection, like in ants, and the void is where they get driven off to by the plague? Edit: Its also worth mentioning Ghost Leviathans filter feed the abundance of photosynthetic microbes near the surface of the water, and that this is their main diet which is seemingly sustainable out there in the void. Their mouths are teethless yet powerful which is how they damage the player. Chelicerates on the other hand... are entirely carnivorous, and their bodies are clearly designed by natural selection for that. So that being said... How the hell do they live out there, and what, if any food intake exists out there with sufficent mass and population to sustain these... things?
This is a really good theory, it really makes you think what’s really in the void apart from these demonic husks of dead flesh. Btw the fungal infection in ants you were talking about is called a cordysep which cause a spore expelling mushroom to grow out of there head’s originating from there brain, so what if the cordysep in there brain cannot penetrate the skull so it moves down the body in the process degrading the leviathans skin eventually reaching a point we’re it can grow the mushroom out of the leviathan and spreads the spores through the ocean (not effecting humans)
1. The whole skin thing can just be explained away with their name. Chelicerates are actually a subphylum of arthropods which contain things like arachnids and horseshoe crabs. So it could just be that these things are overdue for a molt. 2. How do they eat? Well cannibalism isn't uncommon for predatory animals. They would probably eat everything and anything they come in contact with.
@@martingonzalez3629 that and what the PDA said about the void having and I quote, "microscopic and *leviathan* class life forms". So basically they feed on other leviathans. (Who knows they might even start a fight between them, and the ghost leviathans.)
The other ghost leviathans where juvenile. Their life cycle is pretty much seen from start to end in the first game. They hatch by the ghost tree, grow up in the caverns, then move to the dead zone because it's the only place that can house them.
As a person who is fascinated with sea life but also deathly afraid of it, I find this game so captivating though I could never play it for myself. So I just watch RU-vid videos of it instead.
it was exactly like this for me too, but then i got the games to try, and little by little you will overcome your fear just like anything else and gain control over the sea, and its a pretty good feeling. im not saying these shrimp things wont ever stop freaking me out though:)
@Kryvi no not yet, working on getting into the lost river still, idk the proper organized way to play either. I know there's a streamlined way of doing it but I'm ignorant to it lol
Update: I have added a cage to watch the chelicerates in the water at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i7yUtIKq1xY.html Update 2: I used my cage to kill the void chelicerates (they don't respawn) at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ds_LGNdktwY.html Hey folks, small update with answering some common questions about this base: 1) The corridors along the dead zone (and multipurpose rooms outside the dead zone) all have as many reinforcements as possible to keep the hull integrity manageable. You can see this at the start when I enter the first multipurpose room and at the end of the video when you briefly see the non-glass corridors. These sections were at the edge of the dead zone where the chelicerates would despawn and so wasn't as interesting to record. 2) I died once making this from miscalculating how much time I had in the water. When you save and quit and then reload inside your base in the abyss it'll reset the chelicerates giving you a brief window to enter the water and build stuff (most things won't require going into the water, fortunately). You can take three hits with a reinforced diving suit so you're fine for a bit with only one up. 3) I scoured the zones for as much quartz as possible to make this (using a scanner room at times to find bunches I had missed in zones). I hadn't built a prawn suit so if I had opted to do so there were more deposits available. 4) This was done in survival. The purpose of this video was to show off the chelicerates with a base so if you want to believe I did this in creative that's fine. 5) This took several hours to make (a lot of it from backtracking for more quartz). I needed six hours to hit a time limit game over on my laptop for a death compilation so it was some effective multitasking.
" Welcome people, To the Abyss Hotel! " This is Where You can See Void Exclusives! " For extra fun, stick your Feet in The MoonPool, they might Snatch! "
@@Zzz-dt2dl "only" roughly 3 times the length of the blue whale, largest animal that has ever lived on Earth. But yeah, as far as 4546B goes, there's bigger. Much bigger.
Seeing the one rise up from the depths was really terrific. Being inside the base it sound like breathing... Step foot in the moon pool AAYEAAAEEE. Bonus note: never realised how big these guys are
"So this is the bedroom, and... What's that? Oh, those are the Void Chelicerates. I like to call them 'Pale Chellies'. Oh, don't worry about them. They're the least of my problems out here. Just don't go too far out there, alright? The things I've seen... I still get nightmares..."
People are always bashing Below Zero for how "it's not as scary" and that the chelicerates are "just giant shrimp" and that "the ghost leviathans are scarier" but to be perfectly honest these guys scare me way harder than the ghost leviathans do. The ghost leviathans are just plain cool (though they definitely ARE a bit... _spooky_ ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ), while these guys seem more like they just straight-up have rabies. The void chelicerates in particular give me the impression that they have not a single thought running through their heads, and that that they operate purely on destructive impulse. Ghosts almost have a regal air about them. Edit: Also, the way their beaks clip through everything and are large enough to envelop you in darkness through the wall is my _least_ favorite thing.
Ghosts aren’t even all that terrifying tbh, I used to bash the Chelicerates too but after playing a bit and having a few run-ins with them, I think they’re a bit scarier. I will agree that BZ is not nearly as scary as Subnautica though. Since Shadows are super deep underground and Ice Worms are on land, Chelis are the only active leviathan you’ll find in the ocean, whereas in Subnautica you could find both Ghosts and Reapers to attack you. And the only other hostile creature you ever need to worry about are the squid sharks. Plus, you feel a lot less alone in BZ, with ALAN with you for most of the game and all. Not to say that’s bad, because I prefer it. I wasn’t ever able to go passed the grassy plateaus in Subnautica, meanwhile I already have a ton of progress in BZ. Plus, having an actually substantial amount of land exploration is great, unlike to two fairly small islands we got previously
Everytime I see the void chelicerate first this on my mind is "That shrimp boi need some milk!" (unlike the adult ghost leviathans which were simply bigger, the void chelicerate doesn't even look like a variation, it looks diseased). I honestly find the creatures on the first game more scary and original(?) (particularly the reaper leviathans), but since basically everything that's not a peeper scares the daylights out of me I realize I'm not the most unbiased individual here 😅
I feel like The Void might be more terrifying in Below Zero, because at least the Ghost Leviathans are bioluminescent and you can see them coming for you, whereas with Void Chelicerates you do not have that same comfort.
I think this was one of the first times I Truly felt fear of the ocean, just the heavy strokes each emmits as your surroundings are pitch black and cold, with no escape in sight as the orchestra portrays the dire situation is just pure dread
Swimming straight down looking for the bottom so you can determine what zone you’re in. Then around 400m it sets in: you’re in the dead zone, there is no bottom, and you’re totally exposed in open water. Every real subnautica player knows the feeling.
Thanks for reminding me of how absolutely horrified I was the first time I accidentally went into the void and got attacked by this beastie. edit: lmaooo "Sometimes I take a quick dip into the void moon pool just to feel something" moment
I hope in the next Subnautica game the void has a HUGE Kraken like creature that comes up out of the darkness just ever so slightly; and the only main thing you see is it's enormous tentacles coming towards you.
My hot take is that I find these things 20x scarier than the ghosts. Unlike the ghost these ones aren’t supposed to be massive, something is wrong with them. The fact that unlike ghosts they’re activly carnivorous instead of territorial is also horrifying
They look like messed up versions of real leviathan. But they look like they are rotting. I cant imagine a ghost leviathan mixed with cherillian. Its probably gonna be way scary. Im sure the below zero leviathans in the void is more scary
You really notice that you're en the void when the music suddenly stops, the water turns in to an liveless blue color and you start falling in a topless void were the scariest and biggest monsters are nothing compared with the ones you could imagine and fear. You're alone, no plants o other animals to see just you and the Infiniti of the void. A very simple but greatly effective form of a terrorific that almost no one can ignore. Subnautica is a masterpiece
I mean It has about the same amount as the last game doesn’t it? Chelicerates, Shadow Leviathans, Ice Worms, the big jellyfish I forget the name of, that’s 4 Then Subnautica had Reapers, Ghosts, Sea Dragons, Reefbacks, Sea Treaders (are those leviathans? I think so) and then the Sea Emperor, which hardly counts since you don’t see it until end-game/post-game There’s really only a difference of 1, and each game has the same amount of hostile leviathans. Maybe it just feels like less since the Ice Worms are on land?
If you go doen around 3500 meters theres actually some land. Its dangerous and i got scared and went back up so idk if you can build down there but there is land
this seems like a pretty nice place, though it might take some time to get used to the fish demons clipping through the walls, and its gotta be hella expensive
A detail i find interesting is, much like waterbin real life, these giant monsters straight up disappear when they get a certain distance and gradually reapear when they get closer. The way the shadowy form move in the distance is both eery and cool.
When I look at the void I don’t see those creatures as the main threat. Just imagine the immense cold in a ocean of pitch black, where supposedly the winter time would be an infinite night like Earth’s Arctic’s.
1:05 you know what’s scary to think about it’s not the size of the monster or the sounds of them it’s that they look like they’ve been burned a little bit so much so you can see the under layer of flesh my question is what could have caused it
Maybe something like the acid mushrooms in their childhood days? Or an unknown leviathan that's jellyfish-like and tries to hunt them like giant squids does it with whales
Man i really really really want the next Subnautica Game to have an actual Storydriven Ecological Dead Zone where you actually have to go that Deep or far out to get something what you need to collect or doing mutiple tasks. I think the developers need to take the oppurtunity that the Dead Zone gives and make something that you fear. It's kinda loss potential.
I apologize for being comment #70 and making it no longer 69 nice comments but thank you for sharing this! Awesome base, and I really like the shallow observation deck, as it’s cool to see them in different lighting. I especially loved that shot when you were running along the hallway while one was swimming over you and you could see along its whole belly. It really gives a sense of just how huge these are compared to the young ones. Amazing build, hilarious video description, and this is very well-shot and put together. Thank you again!
The Void Chelicerate has a certain gracefulness in swimming that reminds me of the Reaper Leviathan from the first game. However, the Reaper’s roar was bone-chilling in comparison.
Quite a while since it was on Survival (there is a ton of quartz needed for this). I had to wait six hours in another game on my laptop to hit a time limit for some deaths I'm compiling plus I listened to some other videos while doing this so it was some productive multitasking.
the fact that their models clip through the walls to the extent that they do is pretty unfortunate and kind of immersion ruining. but still, an unhealthy amount of adrenaline and fear hormone were delivered to my brain as promised
