In the series premier episode, Matt Dillon is on the trail of a bank robber and killer. A young boy from Cottonwood gives Matt a lead on the outlaw. The boy’s name is William…or better known as Billy The Kid!
2. (0:28:13) “Jaliscoe” - Written by: Les Crutchfield - Starring: Parley Baer, William Conrad, Georgia Ellis, Howard McNear, Roy Rowan (announcer) - May 10, 1952.
In this episode, Will Thompson and his family are savagely attacked by Jaliscoe Pete and his gang and left for dead. The killers try to make the attack look as if it were done by Indians and it’s up to Matt Dillon and Chester to ride out to the Thompson’s farm and investigate.
3. (0:56:36) “Ben Slade’s Saloon” - Written by: Norman Macdonnell - Starring: Parley Baer, William Conrad, Georgia Ellis, Howard McNear, Roy Rowan (announcer) - May 24, 1952.
In this episode, a man is found dead, the third in the past two months. The dead men all have one thing in common, they were all gamblers that had a turn of good luck…that is until they turned up dead!
4. (1:24:20) “Carmen” - Written by: John Meston - Starring: Parley Baer, William Conrad, Georgia Ellis, Howard McNear, Roy Rowan (announcer) - May 31, 1952.
In this episode, Matt has to deal with a headstrong army Major that wants to declare martial law in Dodge after the army payroll is stolen. This script was also featured on the Gunsmoke television series on May 24, 1958.
5. (1:53:35) “Buffalo Hunters” - Written by: Joel Murcott - Starring: Parley Baer, Raymond Burr, William Conrad, Georgia Ellis, Howard McNear, Roy Rowan (announcer) - June 7, 1952.
In this episode, ten buffalo are found skinned with a good amount of meat still left on the bones. On top of that, two buffalo hunters are found killed. Was this the work of Indians? A white buffalo skin may hold the clue Matt needs to find the killers.

Gunsmoke was an American western radio series which was developed for radio by John Meston and Norman Macdonnell. The series ran for nine seasons and was broadcast by CBS. The first episode of the series originally aired in the United States on April 26, 1952, and the final first-run episode aired on June 11, 1961. During the series, a total of 480 original episodes were broadcast.
Gunsmoke is set in and around Dodge City, Kansas, in the post-Civil War era and centers around United States Marshall Matt Dillon (William Conrad) as he enforces law and order in the city. The series also focuses on Dillon’s friendship with three other citizens of Dodge City: Doctor Charles “Doc” Adams (Howard McNear), the town's physician; Kitty Russell (Georgia Ellis), owner of the Long Branch Saloon; and Chester Wesley Proudfoot (Parley Baer), Dillon’s deputy.
Other roles on Gunsmoke were played by a group of supporting actors including John Dehner, Sam Edwards, Harry Bartell, Vic Perrin, Lou Krugman, Lawrence Dobkin, Barney Phillips, Jack Kruschen, Ralph Moody, Ben Wright, James Nusser, Richard Crenna, Tom Tully, Joseph Kearns, Virginia Gregg, Jeanette Nolan, Virginia Christine, Helen Kleeb, Lillian Buyeff, Vivi Janiss, and Jeanne Bates.
