This is the demo I've been looking for! It is a great example of the bass sounds and also more harsh industrial noises, which seemed so natural with the different distortion and reverb effects
Thanks. It’s a great little machine. Gotta say that the distortion is probably one of the best digital distortions I’ve ever heard. Really brings a deep bass and buzz.
Cracking set, mate. If you took this battery powered instrument into the middle of the woods along with a battery powered PA, you would have people dancing around the bonfire until the early hours. I love how modern drum machines have evolved into these instruments known as grooveboxes, that are perfect for live performance. And yet we still get told that electronic music has no soul!!
I've watched a dozen Drum videos over the last few months and I was heading more towards a TD-6, TR-06 when it comes out or a TR-08. Your video made me order the Drum on next day delivery before I reached the end. Well done on really making the machine perform.
I've just bought one. Why beacuse you can get some real interesting drum sounds. I wouldn't buy any of the other volca drum machine those are just toys for begginers
@@Electronicmassacre I've just did it soundcloud.com/yarvin-le-cretin/the-broken-one. I'm really surprised how many things you can do with this little box - and having production-ready technoset in your pocket is really satisfying.
I really appreciate you learning to get the **absolute most** out of one piece of gear. It sounds great, and you could definitely rock a smoky warehouse, in the wee hours, with not much more than this.
Great track! 😍 I think you're probably right about it being the best Volca so far, because from all appearances it is the Volca Drum that got closer to the original Electribe than the other Volcas (all of which borrow elements of Electribe style operation). This track reminds me very much of a Korg Electribe ER-1 demo. 👍
Thanks. That’s exactly what I wanted to show. Every time I pick this up now I find sounds that blow me away. And just having a volca with p-locks and probability is just awesome. Wish that all had a sequencer like this.
Thanks. All you need to do is sit with it on its own and just mess with the synth engine. If you don’t know where to start just hit randomise until you get something interesting then tweak it to make sound better.
Korg confused by calling this Drum. It's a freaking 6 voice synthesizer not just a drum machine, like the expensive machinedrum, or even the tempest, you can create anything with it. I bought mine months ago thanks to this video. Awesome jam
Yeah it’s great for sound design and way more than a drum machine. But it is the exact same engine as the old electribe er1. But then again those are starting to go for way more money now.
Really cool jam! I just received my Drum a few days ago thus still in the very beginning of learning to use it but your video definitely is motivating and I'm pretty sure now that this little machine will be suitable for what I wanted to use it! :)
I’m sure you could try something cool with the drum. Try doing something that shows off the awesome fm style textures it does. I just seemed to be in the zone with this jam but it’s all down to that super cool sound engine.
Absolutely Fantastic!! I should be getting my Korg Volca Drum in a couple days! I can't wait to sync it to my Korg Volca Sample and throw in my Korg KP3, Korg Kaossillator Pro+, Korg Wavedrum, and Modal Argon8 Digital Wavetable Synthesizer!! Fantastic Demo!! That Little Electric Organism sounds possessed!!! In a good way!!
I´m just 13 minutes in, but I enjoy every single track so far. It does sound like the box is inherently a bit tame but you make the absolute most out of that.
Really nice one. I have one of those, but not much time. One thing I did notice - if Korg would do the same synth in "normal" form - like ER or something - that would be a killer. I know the idea of volcas is about the size, however, with bigger pots it would be much much more versatile instrument. Cheers
Yeah I do agree. This is just the same sound engine from the old er1. Would be nice if they did a new electribe but with an extended sound engine based off the sound of all volcas.
Thanks. Randomise layer can be the best way to get sounds until you know how the synth engine works. Can be a little tricky to get good kick drums and bass sounds sometimes though.
Yeah definitely. I have a neutron and it’s awesome. I hear the 2600 is cool too. But yeah the drum is still one of my favourite drum machines. It’s just so much fun to program always find some great sounds in it.
Electronic massacre 😂 I know your pain man, so much gear to buy and a lot nice gear is coming out this year. Can’t wait for Behringer’s 808 and 909 to come out. Btw this set was sick, especially 10:26 to 12:44 those machine gun snares were a thing of beauty; you got me to pull the trigger on this thing. You really made this thing sound straight filthy and grimy man! 👍
Bloody part 5 on the first pattern cracked me up, sounds like a weird electro bird. How many patterns can be saved? Also why is this so difficult to get hold off? Some sites say stock expected first quarter '22. Are they doing some update? That second pattern was excellent.
Probably hard to get hold of because of supply problems and demand( a lot of people buy them at Christmas) It has room for 16 patterns and 16 kits as well (so you can save your sounds separate from the pattern) Very much doubt we’ll see an updated version of this any time soon. And yeah it does some crazy sounds😂
True but it’ll boost the power for pads and sounds before beat drops I think the fm Be a great combo. though Id be more than happy with just this. Loving that display. 👍
Aww that is an impressive performance on that little thingy. Quick questions: OK, so you prepared some sequences in advance and dialled in the sounds, but did you feel your way through them on the fly or is there a cheat-sheet somewhere off screen where you sketched out the structure and/or reminders of what knobs to tweak or what? This the first take or did you have to redo/practice bits?
Thanks. Yeah I just prepared some sequences. Mostly spent time designing all the sounds. Then this was my first go just playing through everything. Had a few practise shots as I was making the sequences just to get used to what I could do with the sounds then that was it.
Hey it’s probably a stupid question but I’m a rookie, how is it possible to record this in your daw ? What do I need aside from the volca drum itself ?
Some sort of audio interface with midi out so you can sync the volca with your daw for recording. A Behringer u-phoria 204hd would probably be the cheapest option. I don’t have a daw yet but I do have the Behringer and it works fine for syncing and recording with my iPad. You could probably just have a basic audio interface but it’s a bit more difficult to get things synced in your daw.
You could also use your iphone, a field recorder like Zoom, one of the small Tascam recorders would be cool too. You basically just need something that can record a wave file. Then you can bring it into some kind of DAW and tweak it a bit more.
God I wish the snares on this thing weren't so fucking weak, I barely use it because it just doesn't quite have the snappiness and decent EQ that I want (I mean, so goes most Korg products). It has a shitload of potential, though
I have found some nice snares just messing around with it. But yeah Korg and snares are never a good combo 😂 this type of digital synthesis is really good for finding loads of percussive sounds though.
@@Electronicmassacre Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, it's still fun to play around with. But it kinda just sits under my bed now, I've used it maybe 5 times since I got it. It's definitely best for minimalist stuff, or accenting other more powerful drum machines and samplers (plus I've ran into the ever-aggravating complication of the machine resetting all of my settings after I saved the kit AND program/pattern)
@@Electronicmassacre one of the things I find with most analogue/synth style drum sounds, esp 808 influenced ones is that the snares are very weak and poppy which is only really useful for certain styles of music IMO. The Volca Drum seems to be one of the few (Affordable) Drum Synthesizers that has semi decent snares out the box.
