Darryl Ellis It really is kinda creepy! Does anyone know the name of that music that plays near it? I've heard it at the park before and I really like it!
I'm glad I got to ride this. It was so close to when it went down, and never reopened. I got my ride of it on April 28th, 2018 (why I remember the date? idk) and I waited over an hour for it. Man, for a long line, I did really enjoy Volcano, but unless the park was dead, this truly was always crowded. I had only one ride on it, and I'm so happy I did. This truly was a legendary roller coaster, and it lived up to its name. It definitely was a blast. If you missed your chance to ride it, I have to say, you unfortunately missed what I'd consider a very awesome ride. RIP Volcano, the Blast Coaster. You did us well for over 20 years!
ThemeParkMedia Kennywood did the same thing, the put the Log Jammer Cat next to the entrance since they removed it for a big coaster same with turnpike, they moved it for a smaller but good-ish coaster. It be a good idea for photo opportunities
I can't believe they're actually tearing down the whole mountain! I've got memories dating all the way back to when it housed the Land of Dooz. I've been through Smurf Mountain, the haunted River, Time Shaft, EVERYTHING now it's all gone😢
I went may 5th and it looked worse. The view from the twisted timbers lift hill is devistating. The view from the avalanche hill is amazing. You can see all of the tools
This and Dueling Dragons really take the cake for most heart-wrenching roller coaster demolitions in recent history. Glad I rode Volcano in 2017 a few times. I will miss it, but I'm also really excited to see what replaces it. I think Cedar Fair knows they have big shoes to fill with this one.
Kings Dominion Mapping I think they'll add a slightly more racecar theme to the area, given both Backlot and Intimidator 305 are there. But I think the Expedition is on the Horizon sign may mean the original safari may return though.
My Sister and I had exclusive passes that let us get in early before major lines would happen, we always rode this thing as many times as we could in the morning since the wait times would be like 1 hour plus later on. God we loved this ride it was so awesome
This was an intense ride. It would blast you off straight up out of the "Volcano" I only rode it once or twice in my life. Worth the experience and I wish it wasn't gone. Truly iconic coaster.
Seeing all these comments from people who never got to ride it make me very grateful for the 9 laps I got on it. It wasn't necessarily the best ride ever but it definitely was a very good ride. It was a part of what made Kings Dominion what it is along with that mountain.
Being from the UK. And not being that well traveled, This is so strange to see. We never have major rides in the UK just simply ripped out that often. It kinda feels off putting and strange to see all that structure simply ripped apart. Thanks for the experience
D IS DOGE it’s because cedar fair is trying to get rid of all their unreliable rides that aren’t worth putting anymore money into for maintenance, which is good because that means better ride is coming but I wish it wouldn’t be so often and done to iconic rides like this one🤧
Got my one and only ride on it the third week in August of 2017. Wouldn't have guessed that might have been one of the last few weeks it was in operation. Very cool ride, will be missed.
This makes me sad :( it was my favorite coaster 🤧 I saw all of this in person bc I went to Kings Dominion the day after you filmed this, it made me so sad 🥺
I’m going to miss this ride. It was possibly one of the best rides in the park! Couldn’t believe I rode this for the last time and I didn’t even know it😭
I have a prediction that backs this u. I am coming at this from everything matters stand point. I think the three animals all symbolize things. First the rhinos symbolize launch(rhinos change) the baby one means a 2nd smaller launch. 2nd the birds mean wing coaster. I think that because there are two it will run two trains. Finally the giraffes,I don’t know what they all mean but I think one is the worlds tallest wing coaster. The next one means tallest inversion(idk about this one) the third giraffe stumped me. So let me know what you think.
I went on a band trip to D.C. and we had a free day so we went by here. It was early April 2019. As of what I remember, all the stuff was still there (entrance sign, and the entire coaster and mountain)
My mom loved this coaster. It was her fave even though we are in the 100 coasters club. Some are saying they are putting the mountain back in after the ride is gone, and I hope so as it’s a historic figure to the park(it’s occupied more than Volcano) *PRESS F TO PAY RESPECT!*
Very sad to see Volcano go. Even sadder to the iconic mountain that housed Volcano gone. The mountain had been there since the park opened in 1975. It housed several rides over the years. Land Of Dooz, Journey to Atlantis, Time Shaft, The Haunted River(replaced Journey To Atlantis), and Smurf Mountain(replaced Land Of Dooz). My favorite ride in the mountain prior to Volcano was the Time Shaft. From 1995 to 1998 the mountain sat empty until Volcano replaced all those attractions. Going to KD sometime this summer haven't been in years.
If they are already teasing a new addition they may have been planning the demolition for a while now. It's sad to see Volcano go, but with how unreliable it was, I'm sure a new addition will definitely fill the hole in everyone's heart. On the bright side, the section of land volcano too up was HUGE. There is a lot of potential for something great!
Volcano was interesting when it opened. After riding the 2 Intamin “Tornados” (Finland, Spain), Volcano seemed very much like a kiddie ride, even with the launches. Slow and fairly uneventful. The best part of the ride began with the awesome drop into the..... brake run. Definitely a momentum killer. I imagine that whatever replaces it, will be a great fit for: not only the fans, but the park itself. Whether we (enthusiasts) like it or not - it IS a business. Long term cost effectiveness is what did this ride in, and will take down many “favorite”, “unique” and “iconic” rides in the not-to-distant future. I can’t imagine any coaster ever being more terrifying (in a good way) than the “Crystal Beach Cyclone”, gone long before I was born. I still have a hard time believing that my #1 coaster of all time (of 1048 to date) is an Arrow Suspended (Eagles Fortress). It happens. Coasters will always be being torn down, and new ones will always be being built. Unless your working income is directly affected by a coaster being built, or torn down - this is just a hobby, with a great many facets to explore and enjoy. So if you rode it, great. Enjoy the memory. If you didn’t, don’t mourn the loss - rather, make and meet the goals of those you wish to ride! And make some friends along the way!!
The queue house reminds me of the one for Gwazi a little bit. It's just depressing to see this get torn down, especially since I never had a chance to ride it. I've heard mixed reviews about Volcano, but the theming looked so cool, I just wanted to experience it at least once. The only time I was at King's Dominion was back in 1993 and this ride didn't exist then. Oh well... RIP Volcano.
Hey Taylor I’ll be at the park next Friday, I’ll fly my drone when I get to the park from outside (to avoid any legal issues) I can get you some photos from above if you’d like and some cinema stuff too
Sigh. I worked at the ride the season it opened. It was a traumatic opening. And it was plagued by downtime. But I did get to meet Weird Al. I’m getting Bariatric Surgery next week and was hoping to ride it again, but what can you do? I’m just glad we still have Intimidator 305!
Looking on the brighter side of things, I think that Kings Dominion wouldn't get rid of a coaster unless they were going to replace it with something big.
I was there last Saturday, 5/4/19, and I saw the aftermath. It’s sad to see everything get towed down. I go just about every weekend or whenever it’s open so I see Little changes in the park every time I go.
After riding copperhead strike honestly wouldn't mind seeing a Mack rides double launch coaster here with a custom layout of course. However, I would like for there to be a b&m launched wing coaster closer to me then holiday world as well too. I'd take either of those but anything new and different than a current existing is fine with me.
Taylor, what is your prediction for KI mee attraction? Are you on the Giga hype train? Do you think it will be next year? I'm a little skeptical myself .
I went to KD last fall. Don’t get me wrong I had an amazing time, both Twisted Timbers and Intimidator 305 are in my top 10. But seeing Volcano closed was pretty sad, and now I know I’ll never get to ride it 😔
The last time I rode this was years ago on a Sunday...all the line queues were empty and my cousin and I were able to ride 3 times in a row...it will be missed 😌 it was closed every trip I made after and its sad to never be able to get at least one more ride in.
Wasn't this a cool ride? I know Silvarret has mentioned it once or twice. Wish I could go to this park and really wish I could have ridden this thing. So sad to see just about any coaster be torn down, especially (from what I hear?) a good one. Hope this is a sight we don't see for a long time in Dollywood!
So sad. One of my favourite inverts. KD is changing so much - I need to get back over to see it some time. What are they doing with the ride parts? Are they selling any?
Well, scenario 2 it is, looks like. “Expeditions on the horizon” sounds like a new African themed land or Safari ride though...but I guess we’ll find out soon enough if a coaster does eventually take Volcano’s place, possibly as part of that expansion.
Zachary Yamashita they’ve been too strict recently with their capacity and reliability standards. I may think Dragster at CP would be demolished soon but it’s just too iconic.
